Creating happiness in our lives, especially in this fast-paced modern industrialized world, can be a challenge.

Today on the podcast we're both honored and excited to share with you one of the most inspirational men in the health and fitness world, Bedros Keuilian, to share with us his incredible story and leadership insight garnered from over two decades where he cerated what he calls "The Immigrant Edge & The American Dream," built on the four pillars of happiness that Bedros has learned apply to all of us:

Money, meaning, health, and relationships, and the balance of all four is what truly creates a life of abundance and wellness that we all deserve, but getting there and working to maintain, is not a linear process for us, and definitely was not for Bedros.

As you'll discover in this powerful conversation, where Bedros not only shares with us vulnerably, authentically, and powerfully about what he's overcome in life to create a global fitness empire, but how we can connect the dots and shine light on the contrast in our universal human journey. (that we all walk on this wellness path)

That is, how to overcome obstacles, and the mindset and ways of being we all can apply no matter what our past, because the story ahead of us is the one we write with the pen in our hand in this moment, right here, right now.

If you're open to inspiration, this episode is going to deliver on how we can become more emotionally resilient and apply these four fundamental pillars of happiness in our lives, no matter what the current reality.

Happiness, The Immigrant Edge, and the American Dream

Anger, guilt, confusion, and shame.

These were all emotions that Bedros Keuilian felt as he worked with his therapist to reconnect with the little boy he once was in Armenia during the Soviet Union era.

When Bedros was able to check in with himself and his subconscious thoughts, he discovered that his Immigrant Edge, American Dream, and self-belief are his tools to use for success, confidence, and happiness.

How can we let go of the past in order to regain happiness, inner strength, and self-fulfillment?

When we don't push forward in our lives, we may be pulled back into feeling negative emotions such as frustration, depression, and anxiety.

On today's episode of Wellness Force Radio, one of the fitness industry's most trusted consultant as well as both the Founder and CEO of Fit Body Boot Camp and creator of the Fitness Business Summit, Bedros Keuilian, shares with us how we become emotionally resilient, discover adversity, and live the life that we want through The 4 Pillars of Happiness and HALT:

The 4 Pillars of Happiness:

  1. Money
  2. Meaning
  3. Health
  4. Relationships

Beat anxiety with HALT:

  • Hungry
  • Angry
  • Lonely
  • Tired

When you stop feelings of hunger, anger, loneliness, and being tired, you can also beat anxiety in its tracks.

This episode is a wonderful reminder that without the knowledge of self, we can't have money, meaning, health, or relationships.

Listen to Episode 110 as Bedros Uncovers:

  • Why Bedros identifies with the title as someone who "has the Immigrant Edge and the American Dream."
  • What is the "Immigration Edge" and why is it so important?
  • How Bedros teaches his clients about emotional resilience.
  • What Bedros did to change the money story that he previously knew of as a child.
  • Why Bedros now sees money as a point system that helps him elevate the kind of impacting he's making with his career.
  • How Bedros went from being $127,000 in debt to becoming debt-free and serving so many people through his business.
  • The business and life lessons that Bedros learned from his father by spending time in his tailor shop and seeing how he treated customers.
  • Bedros' 4 Pillars of Happiness
  • Why enough is never enough: you can always work harder to accomplish greater goals.
  • Why Bedros chose to work in the fitness industry to help gyms and entrepreneurs give their clients a better service.
  • How we can let go of anger and resentment to live a happier and successful life.
  • How Bedros' therapist was able to help him beat his anxiety with HALT.
  • The importance of dominating your life path and future by having closure with your past.
  • Why pushing forward and being productive helps us to be happy.
  • Why you "can't cut your family, but you can edit your relationship with them" and what it looks like.
  • Berdos' advice on why you don't have to talk about your next career, project, or goal with your family when you visit with them.
  • How we can let go from people who trigger our negative emotions? How can we keep calm and move forward with what we want to do with our lives?

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • When you want to start a new project, a career, or make a major life change, there will be people out there you will tell you that you can't do it or it's not a good idea. A lot of times, those people are our families and they will go against our dreams because they don't want us to fail. However, if you have a goal that you want to accomplish, you're more likely to do it when you don't tell your family about it. Don't tell you family about your business because they will probably only have negative thoughts about it. Instead, talk to people who are going to get excited with you and are there to encourage your dream.
  • When we are emotionally resilient and have experienced adversity, it is easier for us to let go from people and situations that trigger our negative emotions.  Experiencing a difficult moment can help us keep calm and move forward with our lives.
  • If you're feeling overwhelmed and stressed, it's okay to hit the pause button. Go ahead to cancel and schedule that meeting or task. If you want to succeed, put your self first and take care of yourself both emotionally and physically.

Power Quotes From Bedros Keuilian

[tweetthis] "If you grow your emotional and adversity quotient, you will be a well-rounded human that can deal with anything." - @BedrosKeuilian [/tweetthis]

  • "The immigrant edge mentality is about getting resourceful when you don't have any resources. You realize that no matter how bad things get in the USA, they're still better than in any other place in the world." - Bedros Keuilian on how he gained the Immigrant Edge during his transition from Armenia to the USA.
  • "Even if you have a job, go start a side project, be part of a charity, or do something like build a house in a third-world country with Habitat for Humanity. These experiences will give you the environmental exposure that allows you to build your emotional resiliency and adversity. If you can grow your emotional and adversity quotient, you will be a well-rounded human that can deal with any adversity or difficult factor when it comes. Not if it comes, but when it comes because stressful events are sure to come in anyone's life." - Bedros Keuilian on how to build emotional resiliency and adversity.
  • "Adversity is an advantage and I started to re-frame my thinking about negative factors. Anything bad that happens is actually a learning lesson towards something better." - Bedros Keuilian on the power of adversity.
  • "Enough is never enough. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing forever because I know that if I don't focus on dominating my path and my purpose, I will go deep into my darkness and the monster will come out. I will begin to think about what happened to me as a kid in Armenia." - Bedros Keuilian on the importance of doing what you love to do and how it helps to keep you moving forward.
  •  "When you are hungry, angry, lonely, or tired, it's so easy for your body to manifest anxiety and that's what happened to me. If I can stop myself from feeling those emotions, I can stop my anxiety in its tracks." - Bedros Keuilian on his therapist teaching him about HALT and how it helped him with his anxiety and negative emotions.
  • "It's highly important to process the negativity in your life. Negativity thoughts are like a computer virus. They may go into isolation, but you can never completely kill a computer virus and there's new software to cover it up. The moment you stop updating your software, that virus might just come back out again. Stay on your path of domination and do good because the moment you don't, you can go inward into the darkness and try to find problems that we need to  be"fixed" when in reality you're just delving into depression." -Bedros Keuilian on fighting negative thoughts and staying strong.

About Bedros Keuilian

Bedros Keuilian has spent the last 20 years as the genius behind some of the biggest names in the health and fitness industry.

At the age of 6 in 1980, Bedros and his family immigrated to the USA from communist Russia in Armenia on a search of a brighter future and opportunity. It was in those next two decades, where he faced incredible adversity and taught himself how to choose to forge a mindset of steel, and grow a heart of service to others, to become known as the one of the greatest mentors and successful business figures in the health and wellness world.

As the CEO and founder of Fit Body, recently listed as one of Inc. 5000’s fastest growing businesses of 2016, Bedros truly practices what he preaches, implementing the same formula for success in his life as a dedicated father, husband, and a pillar for his community that he brings to his fitness clients worldwide.

Bedros Keuilian is the fitness industry’s most trusted consultant. His various fitness businesses are designed to enable trainers to maximize their earning potential with revolutionary industry techniques.

He would then go on to found Fit Body Boot Camp. As the CEO and founder of Fit Body, currently the world’s fastest growing fitness chain, Bedros practices what he preaches, implementing the same formula for success that he brings to his fitness clients worldwide. Fit Body was recently listed as one of Inc. 5000’s fastest growing businesses of 2016.

Among Bedros’ innovations for the fitness industry are FitPro Newsletter and FitPro Magazine. These software systems help trainers capitalize on leads and increase profits.

Bedros also co-manages a publishing company that prints top-notch fat-loss programs from trainers across the globe. Trainers have sold thousands of book copies thanks to Bedros’ push in publishing.

  • We've all had moments when we say "I'm too stressed" or "I'm so busy with everything." Fortunately, we have the power to recognize that stress and turn our feelings around. We don't have to allow stress to take control of our lives. Instead, we can find productive ways to use it and handle it.
  • Regularly check in with your mind and body to see how you're doing. Taking a couple of moments each do to be mindful can help you recognize what your emotions or literal gut feelings are telling you. Meditate, walk, or journaling can help you get in touch with yourself and discover what you need.
  • Following the Four Fundamental Steps in the Immune System Recovery Plan, be conscious about what you eat and drink as well as your stress levels. Treating our bodies naturally is possible without taking so many antibiotics for long periods of time.

Power Quotes From Dr. Blum

[tweetthis] "Functional medicine can heal the gut, detoxify the body, and help manage and measure stress levels." [/tweetthis]

  • "Autoimmune disease is a malfunction in our immune system and there have been studies done to prove that certain factors disrupt our gut, stress and overall health. Functional medicine is an approach to treating and repairing the body. With functional medicine, we can heal the gut, get the toxins out of the body, and manage and measure stress levels." - Dr. Susan Blum on the power of Functional Medicine to heal our bodies.
  • "Today, babies aren't developing the healthy microbiome that they need to support their bodies. According to the Hygiene Hypothesis, babies don't need to be so clean because it tones their immune system. They should get an exposure to dirt to help their microbiome be strong. Kids should be playing outside. It's okay for them to eat dirt and parents don't have to make everything so clean." - Dr. Susan Blum on how a healthy microbiome and gut system can develop when we're young.
  •  "You're eating what the animal ate." - Michael Pollan on how what animals we consume, such as fish our poultry, can affect us because of the mercury in the ocean or pesticides in the animal feed.
  • "We don't have medicine for viruses, except for herpes. How can we recover from a virus? Our immune system naturally puts the virus into remission and that virus continues to live hidden inside our bodies. However, sometimes those viruses don't stay quiet and they can come back. That's when we have a problem with the immune system, but these four steps can treat that. By treating the immune system, you can also treat the virus." - Dr. Susan Blum on how viruses can be treated the same way we'd treat an autoimmune disease.
  • "The number one most important influence on your gut microbiome is food. Vegetables and foods with fiber and vital nutrients feed the good bacteria and help it flourish. Think of your gut like a garden and what you feed it will determine what will grow in it. So you can either grow flowers with good food or weeds with bad food." - Dr. Susan Blum on how food influences our gut microbiome.
  • "A plant-based diet and cultured foods are still king for encouraging the growth of good bacteria. If you eat cultured foods or take probiotics, you have a better chance at recovering the gut." - Dr. Susan Blum on how a plant-based diet and cultured foods or probiotics can really help our gut thrive.
  • "We all know that stress has this great control over us, but the fact is that we really have to take it to heart. We really have to believe that it's having an affect on us so that we can take steps to change what's happening. Try to think of it as if we have these 'stress auras' around us, but stress is actually the way our bodies are responding to them and we do have control over that." - Dr Susan Blum on the importance of recognizing how stress is affecting us and that we have the ability to take control.
  • "Keep practicing your self-care and keep it a priority. Check in with yourself to make sure that you're being true to who you are. We all have a North Star that's within ourselves that's there to guide us and that's also our intuition."  - Dr. Susan Blum on the best piece of advice she received to keep her health strong while working hard at her career.
  • "Wellness is really about balancing our mind, body, and spirit. It's learning about who you are and finding happiness. Wellness is charting a path towards health with a positive outlook. It's about living your life to the fullest." - Dr. Susan Blum on what wellness means to her.

  • Don't see your poor health as something to be ashamed of. Instead, see it as a blessing that you're recognizing that you want to take control of your health and wellness. We all have to start somewhere.
  • Each day, you have the opportunity to wake up and honor your body. Do the exercises that you want to do whether it's cardio, HIIT, or LISS. Sometimes, some workouts like CrossFit won't bring us the same joy that other ones can provide for us. Just because your favorite workout isn't hardcore like CrossFit, it doesn't make it any less beneficial for your mind or body.

Power Quotes From Zlata Sushchik

[tweetthis] "Words shape our present and future. We don't need more restrictions. If there is anything that we do need, it's freedom." [/tweetthis]

  • "We must understand that all of the different parts of the body are connected. If you're constantly fatigued, your body is giving you a sign that you need to pay attention to it. All your body really wants is just attention." - Zlata Sushchik on the power of listening to our bodies.
  • "It is possible to live in peace. It is possible and available at any time. To achieve it, we need to pay attention to how external chaos influences us internally and how we pick up on energies and mirror those reflections." - Zlata Sushchik on paying attention to ourselves.
  •  "There's no one definition of 'sexy' just like there's no one definition of 'success' because that's something that we truly cultivate for ourselves as women and that's truly where we shine in being different in our own way. Our bodies are different, our lifestyles are different, and we must honor that in order to feel at home in our body and with who we are rather they buy into the ideas of what we're supposed to look like." - Zlata Sushchik on what 'sexy' means.
  • "Sexyfit is about understanding who you are, how you feel, and doing things your own way." -Zlata Sushchik on what Sexyfit is all about.
  • "Words shape our present moment and shape our future. We don't need more restrictions in our diet. If there is anything that we do need, it's freedom. Freedom doesn't come from restriction. Freedom comes from empowerment and making choices based on what's true for us." - Zlata Sushchik on how we should be empowered to make the choices we want to make about food and not restrict ourselves.
  • "There's this idea that every workout has to be intense and insane, but half of my workouts are a mix between walking and meditation. I believe that simple fitness is really the best way to connect with our bodies and to connect with our movement. Fitness is not therapy. Use fitness as a way to honor your body and movement. Don't torture yourself with crazy workouts that don't feel good to you." - Zlata Sushchik on why we don't need to do intense workouts like CrossFit.
  • "The true wealth is our health. It's really important for us to honor the relationship we have with ourselves when it comes to trust, communication, respect, kindness, and compassion. Just like everything else in life, it takes work. It's not something that's just given to us and it's not something that's so simple unless we have the right tools." - Zlata Sushchik on the importance of honoring our minds and bodies.

  • What is leptin and how does fat regulate it? How does it affect our food cravings?
  • What are the daily habits we can make to ensure that we continue to keep the weight off?
  • Why we should keep in mind different hormones to keep off weight: insulin, ghrelin, and leptin.

  • Why women are predisposed to pack on more fat than men because of their biology and hormone levels.
  • Dr. Tara's tips to staying on your nutrition and exercise plan.
  • Why we feel like a failure if we skip a day in our plan because of dichotomous thinking.
  • Don't fall into a shame spiral. Take a break from your diet if you need and get recharged to get back on it again.
  • Why sleep is so good to help our hormone levels and elevate our stress levels.
  • The most fascinating fact that Dr. Tara learned during her research: that fat can control our mind. It controls our appetite and how affects how we think about food.
  • What leptin replacement therapy is and how it could be used to help people control their weight.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • If you're a woman, don't let the thin female models on the covers of magazines send you into a shame spiral. Women are naturally predisposed to pack on more fat than men because they are meant to store their fat for energy. Also, when women workout, they release more of the gherkin hormone which is why they're hungrier than men afterwards. It's not a bad thing that women store more fat and have hunger cravings after hitting the gym, it's completely natural.
  • How much fat each person stores is completely unique to them because there are so many factors to consider (age, genetics, bacteria, gender). To approach weight loss, we need to create an individualized plan for ourselves. Know which foods help or hurt your weight loss goal and which type of workout benefits your body that most. Don't limit yourself to eating you favorite foods; just try to stick to your plan. Create a plan that works for your body, mind, and schedule.
  • Don't be upset with yourself if you fall off your nutrition and exercise path one day. We're only human and taking a break is okay. We need time to recharge our batteries and get motivated to eat healthy and workout again.

Power Quotes From Dr. Sylvia Tara

[tweetthis] "We don't all lose weight the same way. You have to find a diet that just works just for you. " - @SylviaTaraPhD [/tweetthis]

  • "The Secret Life of Fat is about having a better idea of what fat actually is and to stop believing in all of these myths about fat loss." - Dr. Sylvia Tara
  • "Once I learned about fat and what it does with our bodies, it was actually really empowering. Fat has so many tricks to stay on our bodies and it can do amazing things. It's an endocrine organ so it can release hormones into our blood stream that can affect our behaviour, our appetite, and our metabolism." - Dr. Sylvia Tara on the power of fat.
  • "We don't all lose weight the same way and that's why it's so important to tailor a diet that works for yourself." - Dr. Sylvia Tara
  • "When you've lost weight and you're feeling less satiated and more hungry, just remember that your body and its leptin levels are driving you to get that fat back on your body. It takes a lot of drive and determination to not give into cravings. This feeling can even last for years and it's important to have that inner drive to keep off the weight." - Dr. Sylvia Tara
  • "People think that sloth and gluttony are the only reasons why people gain on weight. However, genetics, age, gender, as well as viruses and bacteria all have a role in how much fat we actually store." - Dr. Sylvia Tara on how we actually store fat vs. how we used to think we store fat.
  • "If we feel uncertainty in our daily lives, whether over a medical test, job offer, or family situation, the lingering doubt depletes our willpower. Starting a weight management plan during such a time of uncertainty makes it more difficult to persevere. If it is possible to ease the stress in your life before starting a serious attempt to change your lifestyle do so. Successful weight management requires the ability to take challenges in stride and maintain your diet and exercise plan." - Dr. Sylvia Tara on how to set up the mind so we can focus on losing weight.
  • "Once you get on a shame spiral, it's hard to get off of it. Not only will dichotomous thinking affect your diet plan, but other factors of your life as well. People with dichotomous thinking tend to have more depression, more eating disorders, and a lot more unhappiness in their lives." - Dr. Syliva Tara on how dichotomous thinking can negatively affect our minds and bodies.
  • "Dieting is hard. It's a long-term commitment and you have to fight a lot of urges to stay on it. However the rewards are good. It might be hard to go through and stay on a diet for awhile, but you also get a lot of rewards. You gain a control of your life, can buy clothes at the size you want to be, and so many other benefits. Choose to follow a diet when the timing is right for you and the commitment will be worth it. " - Dr. Sylvia Tara on her own difficulties with staying on a diet.
  • "Anger is a very strong emotion. What helped fuel me through this wellness transformation was my anger and vengeance towards my fat. Use your negative emotions and direct them in a way that you will win in the end." - Dr. Sylvia Tara on how we can use our anger and other negative emotions to fuel our motivation to lose weight.

Think Like A Startup

To change her life, Dr. Akbari had to start analyzing each of her decisions like a startup company would approach them.

Even though Dr. Anna Akbari had a wonderful career in New York City and academia at New York University and Parsons New School for Design, she eventually realized that it was not enough to sustain her happiness and wellness forever.

Following just one career path was not all that Dr. Akbari wanted to succeed at during her lifetime. She knew deep down inside that there had to be something more.

One day, she woke up and finally decided it was time to pivot her life. Craving nature, new work projects, expanding her career and life possibilities, Dr. Akbari made the plan to move to California. Academia was her comfort zone but she knew she could be happier if she added more practical passions to the mix.

Pausing our lives, pivoting, and making a major change isn't the easiest choice, but it could be what changes the direction of our journey forever.

Happiness Architecture

How we can design our lives so that we can create the life that we want.

Mental models hold us hostage in thinking that there's only one singular path that we have to follow to be happy and successful. Like a startup trying new tactics and finding better solutions, we can invert the truth about how a life should be lived and begin anew.

We can afford to take chances, unlearn something, and innovate. We don't need to make a geographical change like Dr. Akbari did by moving from New York City to California, but we can find new ways to reinvent ourselves and be more open take chances.

When we get outside of our comfort zone, we can make it easier for ourselves to pivot our lives in order to increase our wellness and happiness.

The 3 Part Formula for Happiness & Success

If we get to a point in life where we know we can no longer stay with the same unrewarding job, a lot of us need to pivot our careers or find a new place to live like Dr. Akbari did to rediscover her wellness and happiness. While moving to a completely different location or leaving our work field for another career may not be entirely feasible, there is a formula we can use to evaluate and choose our next move.

During our interview, Dr. Akbari shares her 3 Part Formula for Happiness and Success and how we can apply it to our lives.

Simply ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Passion: What is something that you are passionate about?
  2. Practicality: What are you skilled at or could be good at?
  3. Audience: What does your audience demand?

If all of these three areas successfully intersect, then you've created your own secret sauce for happiness and success.

  • How do we know if we should drastically change our environments or stay where we are?
  • What can we do to get rid of some of the facts that we used to believe about ourselves? How can we get rid of old software to start anew?
  • Why Dr. Akbari decided to include the following quote in her book from Paramahana Yoganana: "Since you alone are responsible for your thoughts, only you can change them.”
  • The 3 Part Formula for Happiness according to Dr. Akbari.
  • How we can strategically spend money to help our feelings of well-being and security.
  • Can love and relationships really thrive in this digital age? How does each gender play a part?
  • How do men and women feel empowered in the world of technology? How do we socialize without technology?
  • Why ghosting is one of the most selfish things a person can do in both their personal and professional lives.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • Pivoting can help us improve anything we want to actively change in our lives. Our careers, relationships, or wellness can all benefit from pivoting. We can become better "pivoters" when we don't invest in the idea of what our singular outcome will be. If we keep an open mind and if we're experimenting with how we'll get to where we want to be, then the constant feedback will help us readjust our input. It's always good to remember to not be too over-attached to something that wasn't even feasible in the first place.
  • Relationships, both personal and professional, have changed because of all of the new digital technology. We're so used to online dating that for someone to actually come up to us and ask us out in person can seem strange and even intimidating. The digital age has really affected the roles that both men and women play in relationships. Now there are all of these new terms like catfishing and ghosting that are really affecting our relationships with each other. We've gotten so used to moving from one relationship to the next through dating apps, they we don't take the time to really dig deep into one relationship.
  • Conventional pieces of wisdom such as "money cannot buy happiness" is affecting the way we see money today. What a lot of people don't realize is that without money, we don't have the ability to create, thrive, nor relax. How we spend our money can affect our wellness and happiness. If we spend our money more strategically by investing in experiences, it can help build long-term happiness compared to buying objects. If we're worried that a life decision will set us back financially, we have to be honest with ourselves. Will it just slightly lower some of the luxuries that aren't bringing us happiness or will it threaten our well-being and security?

Power Quotes From Dr. Anna Akbari

[tweetthis]"If you follow your heart and you keep the 3 Part Formula in mind, then you will be happy." - @annaakbari[/tweetthis]

  • "Since you alone are responsible for your thoughts, only you can change them.” - Paramahana Yoganana
  • "The actions I did weren't necessarily glamorous decisions, but they were actions that many people think are out of reach for them. The difference is that I was trying to figure out life hacks and how to do things that might immediately seem inaccessible. That is what startups do all the time. That's what they have to do all the time to be relevant and to beat out the major competition. The more I applied that thinking to my life, the more of an edge I got and the happier I was." - Dr. Anna Akbari on how she was able to startup her life.
  • "It's easier to be happy in the sludge. Much of our life is spent in the sludge. It's not all spent in those top-of-your-game milestones. We think that achieving those milestones will make us happy, but it's really all of those in-between moments that we have to sort out along the way that bring us joy." - Dr. Anna Akbari on how working towards achievements is what brings us purpose and makes us happy.
  • "As devastating as it was, I think the 2008 recession was actually really liberating for a lot of people. A lot of my friends and peers had been relatively unhappy in their life and career paths. Then everything that they had always taken for granted was pulled out from underneath them. So they thought to themselves, "Well, I should just go do what I want to do if this career that I don't want to do isn't secure anymore." - Dr. Anna Akbari on the effect of the 2008 USA recession and how people realized that they could change their careers to something that they love to do.
  • "Stop investing in so much of what the initial idea of what your singular outcome can be. If you're always thinking about what you're working toward and if it's only towards one thing, then you're not going to be open to a pivot. Any kind of shift in your focus or in the outcome is going to feel like a failure and an unacceptable outcome." - Dr. Anna Akbari on what can hold us back from pivoting and therefore making a successful change in our lives.
  • "We've been taught over and over again that we should focus on one thing and really excel at it so that we can climb the ranks. But that's not the correct path for a lot of us; especially if we have different interests or just want to diversify our income. Following a singular path is not the only or right path for most people." - Dr. Anna Akbari on why pivoting and changing our paths can be the right thing for a lot of us.
  • "When I started following my heart and not doing just what was immediately professionally practical, all of these new professional opportunities for success started flowing in." - Dr. Anna Akbari on how her biggest pivot to move from New York City to California helped her find happiness in her career.
  • "We're at this interesting point in time when technology is such a crucial element of our lives and it affords us so many wonderful conveniences and yet, as we all know, it simultaneously diminishes and deteriorates the quality of our lives." - Dr. Anna Akbari on digital happiness.
  • "Why does this magnificent applied science which saves work and also makes live easier bring us so little happiness?" - Albert Einstein on how technology can bring us very little happiness.
  • "Wherever you go, there you are." - Josh Trent
  • "The more that we can keep our minds ripe and ready for change, the better we will be. Constantly pushing yourself out of your comfort zone or introducing new variables into your life will keep you fresh." - Dr Anna Akbari on how we can be open to change and be rid of old software or false beliefs.
  • "Your opportunity for both success and happiness is at this intersection of what you're passionate about, what you're actually skilled at or could become skilled at, and what people are demanding. If you can find an intersection of those three things and use that to interrogate which passions are viable and which aren't, you're going to have a much smoother and happier path." - Dr. Anna Akbari on her advice to clients on how to interrogate their passions for happiness and success.
  • "When it comes to money and happiness, it's less about specific numbers and more about the choices that surround those numbers. Studies find that the amount of money you make matters less than how you spend it. While money alone can't buy happiness, strategic spending can significantly enhance your well-being." - Dr. Anna Akbari in chapter 8 (Hustle and Grow) of her book, Startup Your Life.
  • "Finding happiness is not so much in trading to a new novelty, but rather digging deeper. Really taking the time to put in the work is the key component with relationships."  - Dr. Anna Akbari
  • "To follow my heart and not just always be thinking about being practical. If you follow your heart and you keep the 3 Part Formula (passion, audience, and practicality) in mind, then you will be happy." - Dr. Anna Akbari's advice on being happy.
  • "Everyone has their tipping point when they know that something is a breaking point for them. We all have to decide what that is for us and submit to it when that time comes. Embrace it and reflect on it so that we can grow. We don't grow the most when we're actually thriving. We grow the most when we've had some kind of failure and are forced to reflect and make something of it." - Dr. Anna Akbari on what we can learning from trying something new.
  • "We might not like everything that we see happening in the world and we can't always change all of that, but we can decide how we're going to design our lives and how we want to touch the communities that we encounter on an every day basis. " - Dr. Anna Akbari on what kind of legacy she wants to leave.
  • "Wellness is about creating balance. Whether it's sleep, diet, exercise, or meditation while also never forgetting the value of spontaneity." - Dr. Anna Akbari on what wellness means to her.

106 Dr. Anna Akbari: Finding Wellness & Happiness In A Digital World

Mar 28, 2017

The brain is the ultimate governor of the body. Without it, we wouldn't have strong muscles, healthy emotional wellness, good gut health, and the ability to perform to our highest potential each day.

We've always known that the brain is a powerful organ, but without it, we wouldn't have such an amazing connection with the rest of our body.

Today on Wellness Force Radio, Sport Scientist and Clinical Sport Psychologist at Clinical & Sports Consulting Services and co-author of the latest book, The Brain Always Wins, Dr. John P. Sullivan, teaches us how our brain has the powerful ability to help us deeply connect with our emotions, make good decisions, and build relationships within our tribe.

Perfection causes anxiety and trauma. What we really need is consistency. The brain craves consistency that is in line with our daily hydration, nutrition, and sleep. Without all three elements, we wouldn't be able to move and perform as well.

Today, Dr. Sullivan will help us answer the ultimate questions, "How do we show up powerfully in our lives? How can we train for both brain performance and brain health?"

How can both a top performing athlete and a busy parent manage and enhance their mental health by focusing on good hydration, nutrition, and sleep?

What do our brain waves, meditation, and emotions all have in common? How does both our brain and gut function to help us thrive and perform each day? Tune in to find out.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • Our quality of health including muscle, nutrition, and heart function are all in service to our brain. Our brain has a solid part and a place in everything concerning our health and wellness. We can improve our health and keep it in top condition with three factors: hydration, nutrition, and sleep.
  • The brains is the governor of the body and is wired to help us survive. Thanks to our evolution, with our brains we have the ability to hone in on our background environment and  predict at least a minute ahead of time of what will happen next. It's because of our ability to first feel and then think that allows the brain to always win.
  • Unlike great apes, we're able to make emotional connections that allow us to make good decisions. It's because of our emotions that we're able to evaluate friendships and stay connected within our tribe. We're not made to be isolated from other people and our emotions help us to stay balanced.

Power Quotes From Dr. John Sullivan

[tweetthis]"Our brain is wired to survive, but we can to certain things day to day to make it more resilient." - @BrainAlwaysWins[/tweetthis]

  • "There is no scientific study more vital to man than the study of his own brain. Our entire view of the universe depends on it.” - Francis Crick
  • "Heart health, maintaining lean muscle mass, nutrition and a multitude of other factors all serve the brain. They are not in service for isolation; they are in service to our brain. If we don't think about our brain as the vehicle for our personal performance, our quality of life, our ability to give  to others and to give to ourselves, then we're really missing a critical point." - Dr. John Sullivan on his take on the above Francis Crick quote.
  • "Excellence is grounded in the billions of neurons between our ears. Arguing this point also comes from the same neurons between our ears." - Dr. John Sullivan
  • "Human variation starts with the brain and I try to assist people to have a better quality of life or better performance in certain situations. The brain's function is not "cookie cutter"  because it's not the same pattern for everyone. But because we're uniquely wired to survive, everyone has these strengths that they can bring to the table." - Dr. John Sullivan on his fascination with the brain.
  • "Central to our life is our brain health. Without our brain health, we don't have health and then we don't have performance." - Dr. John Sullivan on why the brain is the governor of the body.
  • "The brain always wins because it's a predictive organ. It's always giving us consistent information about our health. It is incredibly efficient in helping us get information, understanding what that information means, and using that information to benefit our health. The brain always wins because it is designed to survive." - Dr. John Sullivan on why the brain always wins.
  • "There is no such thing as mental toughness or grit. These are re-packaged terms with very poor science. Everyone's ability to perform on any given day is based upon their health." - Dr. John Sullivan on what it means to have a strong mind.
  • "Life is not about stress. If you look at neuroanatomy, life is about trauma and it's either a little "t" or a large "T." Trauma requires rest and recovery which meditation provides." - Dr. John Sullivan on how meditation can help us with trauma.
  • "We can all expect stress or some type of challenge, but we have to plan for the recovery so that it all balances out. Only then can we become resilient, evolve, grow, and adapt." - Dr. John Sullivan on the power of rest and recovery when we're stressed out.
  • "Our culture is all about work, work, work and we've lost the idea that rest is where it all comes together." - Dr. John Sullivan on the benefits of rest.
  • "Our brain is wired to survive, but we can to certain things day to day to make it more resilient." - Dr. John Sullivan on how to make our minds stronger.
  • "You don't have to be perfect. In fact the brain hates perfection because it induces anxiety and it creates more neurological stress. We only really need consistency to have a happy brain. Looking at our ancestors and evolution, if we needed perfection, we wouldn't have been able to survive as a species." - Dr. John Sullivan on why we're not wired to be perfect.
  • "What we've learned is that we think first and then we feel, but it's actually the other way around. We feel first and then we think. It doesn't work any other way than that because the limbic system was designed for survival." - Dr. John Sullivan on the purpose of our emotions.
  • "Any important decision we've ever made in our lives has been made on emotion. The more important the decision, the more emotion is involved. This why emotion regulation is so key to decision making." - Dr. John Sullivan on why are emotions are so important to help us make decisions.
  • "Wellness is having an individualized, thoughtful, and flexible approach to being able to be healthy and meet life's demands." - Dr. John Sullivan on what wellness means to him.

Worthless.

That’s how Amanda Steinberg felt in her late 20s. She had bottomed out financially, emotionally—everything. She’d worked herself to the bone to showcase herself as a 21st Century working mom, and like practically every college-educated woman she knew, she'd followed what seemed like straightforward steps to building the perfect post-feminist life.

It was at this gut-check moment, in debt and emotionally spent, when she realized that she was "worth it," and so are you.

As a female, have you ever felt like you could not achieve the same financial success as others because of your gender or present situation?

Have you struggled to let go of old weight and society’s expectations of what you should do with your life?

For women who believe they need money to be enough, are afraid they’ll never achieve financial success, or feel stuck in their present situation, this episode is for you.

We are all worthy of financial success and feeling empowered about ourselves.

Despite gender inequality in the workforce and how society views and values money, women have the ability to take the idea of financial success and make it something of their own.

We don't have to allow society's structure and regulations to prevent us from creating a successful relationship with money because we're worth more than that.

Rewiring our Perception of Self-Worth Around Money

What are the stories we tell ourselves in relation to money around society?

For decades, situations and circumstances have shaped the household roles of both males and females. Males have been the providers and women the nurturers.

This idea has been branded in our minds. Society tells us that males cannot be the nurturers nor females the providers. Fortunately, this idea is slowly changing as females are discovering their self-worth and net worth.

Today on Wellness Force Radio, Founder & CEO of DailyWorth, founder of WorthFM, and author of Worth It: Your Life, Your Money, Your Terms, Amanda Steinberg shares how she’s helping women find their inner strength to let go of old weight and gain financial freedom.

Roots & Wings: Create Your Own Rules About Money

At a young age, Amanda observed the burden that money had on her mother. She saw first-hand the pressure that her mother experienced to make sure that she had enough money to pay the bills and provide a comfortable life for her family.

At one point or another, we can all relate to that same pressure that Amanda’s mother faced. We’ve all experienced the pressure to “be enough” and have a baseline of “normalcy” according to our financial self-worth.

We’re pressured to have enough money to provide for the perfect family, have the best possessions, or to fit our role according to our gender. Unfortunately, because of this pressure around normalcy and money, some women might feel held back from achieving their own financial success.

We’re afraid that we’re not worthy because of how we show up to society.

On this episode, you will learn that despite what society has told us, financial freedom is attainable for anyone. Money shouldn’t be a burden according to our background, gender, or knowledge.

One day Amanda learned an important lesson from her mother that has helped her to let go of old weight and rewire how she perceives money.

To be financially secure, we just need two things: Roots and Wings:

  • Roots are your assets such as real estate, investment, and owning a business.
  • Wings are your cash flow including credit and income.

Join us in listening to Amanda as she shares how we can rewire our perceptions about money and gain financial freedom.

Listen to Episode 104 as Amanda Uncovers

  • How is financial security defined? What does it mean for different people?
  • What we perceive as clarity and control around money versus the reality of our own circumstances.
  • How money can create stress and harm our personal wellness.
  • Amanda's childhood and the paralyzing pain that she and her family experienced because of money.
  • Amanda's experience with debt and the steps she took to reevaluate her personal finances.
  • How a hip-hop poetry artist and a spiritually elevated human rights advocate named Rha Goddess helped Amanda re-program her thoughts on money.
  • The shift in society regarding the role that both men and women have with money.
  • Why Amanda was living a life that she thought she was supposed to live out of fear of not fitting in. Why Amanda forced herself to live a life that didn’t suit her at all.
  • How Amanda created a new story about money to fit her life and needs.
  • How women can write their own rules to live their own lives with roots and wings.
  • The new financial narrative for women in 2017: How does money impact their wellness?

  • Amanda's goal to help people to become more comfortable with who they are and what roles they want to take on.
  • How a couple can begin to balance their money and keep their family in a constant state of financial wellness.
  • The importance of figuring out what is important to you i.e. travel, a home, technology so that you focus on spending your money on that and not on something that is not as important to you.
  • How to discover Positive Net Worth: Ask yourself what you're invested in, what do all of these financial terms mean for you? Where is your money and how is it being directed?
  • Amanda's favorite money tools to help you re-evaluate your personal finances.
  • Amanda's plans for 2017 and her new book, Worth It.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • We do not have to learn money habits from only our parents. There are other sources out there that can act as good examples to help us achieve financial stability and freedom.
  • Society doesn’t define our relationship with money. We do. Despite our previous income status, experiences, our gender, we can let go of old weight and begin a new relationship with money. We can start fresh and gain control of our personal finances with clarity.
  • Our society has wired our brains for years to believe that only men can be the main providers and women the sole nurturers. But times are changing as both genders can either be the provider or the nurturer.

Power Quotes From Amanda Steinberg

"Our feelings and relationship around money have very little to do with the actual circumstances of our finances." - @AmandaSteinberg

  • "My life and work are dedicated to the reinvention of financial advice and financial services so that anyone, regardless of circumstance, gender or knowledge level, can experience the thrill of money clarity and control." - Amanda Steinberg
  • "Our feelings and relationship around money have very little to do with the actual circumstances of our finances." - Amanda Steinberg on achieving clarity and control with money.
  • "As women, we can't really fulfill our potential until we understand our money. I'm trying to support this shift for women in the workforce so that it doesn't feel like work and they don't feel bad about it." - Amanda Steinberg on the current shift for women in relation to money and work.
  • "Worthless. That’s how I felt in my late 20s. I had bottomed out financially, emotionally—everything. I’d worked myself to the bone to showcase myself as a 21st Century working mom, and like practically every college-educated woman I knew, I had followed what seemed like straightforward steps to building the perfect post-feminist life." - Amanda Steinberg on her own struggle with money.
  • "If women are disassociated from finance as our culture has required it, women are never going to be able to take care of themselves and it's going to perpetuate this impossible situation." - Amanda Steinberg on the motivation to help women become financially independent and manage their money better.
  • "Debt led to doubt; doubt spiraled into despair." - Amanda Steinberg in her new book, Worth It.
  • "All you need are roots and wings." - The piece of financial advice that Amanda Steinberg's mom gave her.
  • "This baseline of normalcy has set it up so that people are so afraid to be judged by others. We don't realize that anyone's judgement of ourselves is actually more about them than anything to do with us. Where do these expectations even come from? Give yourself the freedom of space." - Amanda Steinberg on the social pressures that we face every day and how to ignore them.
  • "We shape our identities to protect ourselves from pain. So, when we start to dismantle some things that we realize don't have to be entirely true, it can be really painful. It's confronting and really uncomfortable. But it can bring clarity to recognize which statements cause us pain and those are the ones that we need to get rid of in our lives." - Amanda Steinberg on how we can rewire our thoughts around money and ourselves.
  • "All of your Truth exists because you arbitrarily chose it for no reason long ago and then collected evidence. That's it. Except for: be nice to people, be honest, love wins. Otherwise, all bullshit.” - Carl Richards
  • "Humans are really starting to realize that we are the creators of our world, we are not victims of it." - Amanda Steinberg on how we are gaining more confidence to do what we want with our lives.
  • "Women have been programmed to be self-less, dependent, and bad with money. I am overtly and expressly helping women to reprogram themselves so that they are self-full, independent, and can live life by their own definition." - Amanda Steinberg on how she's helping women redefine themselves.
  • "What's important for women is to realize that we have been impressed upon us by society that we are valued when we are selfless and giving. That makes it very hard for women to even think about money because it feels like a selfish thing. For the man, he has been told that he will be successful when he has monetary success and he is a provider. So, for the man to release some of that over to his wife and to not feel like he's being emasculated, it's equally as challenging."  - Amanda Steinberg on the struggle society faces to see the female and male roles with money in a different light.
  • "Revenue solves all problems." - Amanda Steinberg's own mantra when she faces something difficult.

Wired To Eat explains how more willpower and better discipline are not the missing pieces to health and fat loss. Our genetics are working against us in the modern world of super tasty foods. In this new book you will learn about neuroregulation of appetite and how hyperpalatable foods can bypass our built in “off switch”, causing us to eat far more than we otherwise would. The genes that made our ancestors successful are setting us up for troubles today. You will learn how sleep, gut health, stress, exercise and community can work with or against our goals of health and leanness.

With Wired To Eat you’ll embark on a program to rewire your appetite and regain your health. We will start with a 30 Day Reset that will normalize the neuroregulation of appetite and help us not only to eat the right amount, but also begin to appreciate simple but delicious meals. After the 30 Day Reset we will use the 7 Day Carb Test to map what specific carbohydrate foods we do best (and worst) with. This will move us beyond one-size-fits-all dietary dogma and into the modern world of Personalized Nutrition.

Wired To Eat includes over 60 whole-food recipes and includes meal plans for the 30 Day Reset as well as for autoimmune and ketogenic diets.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • What have we got to lose from trying a diet like the Paleo diet? If we're doing all that we can to help our health, but nothing is helping, simply changing your focus on nutrition could be the solution. Change can be difficult but with Robb's 30 Day Reset Program and 7 Day Carb Test, we'll be able to see that making small changes to our diet really isn't that difficult after all.
  • Our modern world has stolen the positive impact of  the natural optimum foraging strategy that was passed down to us by our ancestors. This is why we experience palate fatigue after we eat the same processed foods over and over again. The Paleo diet brings us back to that optimum foraging strategy so we can avoid palate fatigue. What our bodies and minds need is a variety of healthy, nutritious foods that can help us function better.
  • Our bodies have a gut, health, and brain connection and The 4 Pillars of Health have a great influence over this connection. The 4 Pillars of Health are Sleep, Movement, Community, and Nutrition. Our genetic and environmental factors can either make it easier for us to overeat or if we're able to balance the 4 Pillars, we can manage our nutrition.

Power Quotes From Robb Wolf

"Eat whole foods, get outside, move a lot, sleep like you are on vacation, and surround yourself with loving relationships." - @robbwolf

  • "If we understand how our world has changed, our genetics are wired for a different world, we can free ourselves of the shame and missed placed morality associated with you and hearing difficulties of change. We can finally stop bleeding ourselves for our inability to lose weight and get healthy." - Robb Wolf in Wired to Eat
  • "We are genetically wired to eat more and move less; it’s no wonder most people fail to achieve health and weight-loss goals." - Robb Wolf in Wired to Eat
  • "The fact that the Paleo diet can be difficult for some people to follow indicates that there is a mismatch between our genetics and our current environment. Everything that made our ancestors successful and everything that brought us to where we are today is the reason why changing our diets can be difficult." - Robb Wolf on why it's difficult for people to follow healthy diets like the Paleo diet.
  • "We often tell ourselves stories about why we are a certain way. We tell ourselves why we can or cannot change. And the common denominator with most of the stories is fear. Fear of change, failure, or wasting time. This fear sends the logical mind searching for credible reasons why embarking on a new solution seems like a bad idea." - Robb Wolf in his upcoming book, Wired to Eat about why we let fear get in the way of our goals.
  • "It's not about me, it's about the mission." - Lauren Noel on the importance of staying true to yourself while becoming more recognizable in the health and wellness industry.
  • "I basically adopted a low-carb, Paleo diet and it was almost as if a switch had been flipped. For the first time in my life, I didn't have to eat every hour and a half to two hours or face a catastrophic hypoglycemic event. I was completely functional. I felt good, I was leaner than I had ever been in my life, and it was all effortless." - Robb Wolf on deciding to follow a Paleo diet to improve his health.
  • "Eat whole, unprocessed foods, get outside in the sun, move a lot, sleep like you are
on vacation, and surround yourself with loving relationships." - Robb Wolf  in Wired to Eat on how to stay healthy.
  • "With a Paleo template, you can still add spaghetti if you want to add it. You can have spaghetti squash and it might be a bit odd for some people at first, but when you add the marinara sauce, it still tastes delicious. It's the same as normal spaghetti because you don't even taste the noodles. What you taste is the marinara sauce on top." - Robb Wolf on how you can eat Paleo foods and still enjoy the meal.
  • "Be able to do whatever I want to do with very little preparation or effort within the 4 pillars of health: sleep, nutrition, movement, and community. We need to have a balance of all 4 and if we're successful, we'll be able to do a large amount of what we want to do with our lives." - Rob Wolf on what wellness means to him.
  • "People are not swayed into action by information. Most people make changes in behavior due to emotion, not facts and figures. This is not a bad thing; our emotions, coupled with our logical intellect, is what make us human." - Robb Wolf in Wired to Eat

Esther Gokhale has been involved in integrative therapies all of her life. As a young girl growing up in India, she helped her mother, a registered nurse, treat abandoned babies waiting to be adopted. This early interest led her to study biochemistry at Harvard and Princeton while later, acupuncture at the San Francisco school of Oriental medicine.

After crippling back pain during her first pregnancy and unsuccessful back surgery, she began her lifelong crusade to find a solution to back pain. Her studies at the Aplomb Institute in Paris and years of research in Burkina Faso, India, Portugal, and elsewhere led her to develop the Gokhale method which she has been teaching at her Palo Alto wellness center for over 15 years, and gives lectures for the ancestral health symposium, TEDX, google, and many more large organizations interested in posture’s effect on health, wellness and work.

Primal Posture for Wellness

When did we ever stop paying attention to our primal posture? Even if someone does remind us to "stand up straight" or "sit tall," we either become easily distracted or we fail to have good posture and end up over-exerting ourselves.

Other cultures have shared good posture techniques for generations. They know how to bend, sit, and stand with a strong body. But our modern culture has lost something along the way. We're not the same active hunter-gatherers that our ancestors once were long ago. We've lost our primal instinct today because we either work at a desk for hours on end or we're doing other sedentary activities all day.

We're naturally born with excellent posture and mobility, but as we move on in life, we tend to lose our good posture habits.

On this episode of Wellness Force, we'll discuss how our modern culture has affected our posture and what we can do to fix it.

For those with constant back pain or have lost the ability to move comfortably, Esther Gokhale of the Gokhale Method is here to help.

Combining her experiences and knowledge about the human body, Esther has dedicated her life to changing our modern culture. With each workshop, lecture, and class, she is teaching us how we can achieve primal posture for wellness.

Esther Gokhale is the creator of The Gokhale Method as well as the author of the book, 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back: Natural Posture Solutions for Pain. Esther and her team have helped many people with back pain and decreased joint mobility all throughout the USA and the rest of the world.

Not only does Esther teach us that it is possible to improve our posture and mobility, but she reminds us that without either, good health and wellness would be difficult to achieve.

Just as nutrition and fitness are important for our bodies, so is excellent posture and mobility.

Listen to Episode 102 as Esther Uncovers

  • Common misconceptions and myths about posture.
  • Why we don't have to over-exaggerate our posture, but instead we should focus on core posture by standing and sitting naturally and comfortably.
  • The reason why the "chin up and shoulders back" posture is unnatural and creates tension in our bodies.
  • How to do a shoulder roll to improve your upper posture.
  • How good posture translates into stretching and strengthening of the body.
  • The negative effects of poor posture and how we can improve our health with good posture.
  • The Gokhale Method 4 Levels of Learning:
    • 1) Intellectual understanding of what movement you want to do.
    • 2) The ability to do that movement when a teacher is helping you.
    • 3) The ability to do that movement when you remember to do it.
    • 4) When that movement becomes a habit.
  • Why our environment affects our posture and movement habits.
  • How sitting can actually be good for our bodies under the right circumstances.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • We might have believed it to be true, but sitting is not the new smoking. As long as we do a combination of sitting, standing, and movement in moderation all the while maintaining good posture, we can have strong, healthy bodies.
  • Posture is the key to healthy joints and avoiding pain. Whether we're sitting, standing, or moving; we have to have good posture. The key is to not over-extend ourselves. We shouldn't have to "sit up straight" or "point our chins up" because those movements create tension. There are better, more comfortable movements that we can teach ourselves over time.
  • Good posture is not only good for our bodies, but for our minds and emotions as well. Focusing on our posture can help reduce cortisol levels and increase testosterone levels.

Power Quotes From Esther Gokhale

"When you have good posture, then your every day life and activities become both your exercise and therapy." - Esther Gokhale

"When we focus on pointing our chins up, it usually leads us to tense up the muscles in the back of our neck. This tension in the back of the neck is not healthy. Our chins want to elongate and point down towards the ground." - Esther Gokhale on why we shouldn't focus on pointing our chins up to try to achieve good posture.

"When you have good posture, then your every day life and activities become both your exercise and therapy. Every bend and step becomes a rep or a stretch. You're also taking care of a lot of your exercise needs. With poor posture, not only are you missing out on those stretches and strengthening repetitions, but you're actually creating wear and tear on your joints." - Esther Gokhale on how good posture can benefit our bodies while poor posture hurts it.

"On average, people have great posture design and structure. However, it's up to the culture to either nurture and support this primal architecture that we're born with or to destroy it. Good posture can be destroyed with poorly designed furniture, directions such as "stand up straight, chin up," and even those electronic notifications that remind us to fix our posture." - Esther Gokhale on how good posture can decline because of culture.

"Culture is critical to posture and my life mission is to change the culture. My long-term goal is to create a healthy posture culture for modern people. It's possible and we have such an advantage to change our posture." - Esther Gokhale on her mission to help modern culture improve its posture.

"We blame sitting for our health problems, but it's actually incredibly gentle for the body. Of course you shouldn't just sit like a lump or sit with unhealthy posture in badly made furniture. However, if you sit well for moderate periods of time in half-decent furniture, sitting is really gentle for the system. It's so easy on the joints and our architecture." - Esther Gokhale on how sitting can be beneficial for our bodies with the right circumstances.

"Corporate jobs tend to keep people at their desks and don't allow them to move. Dance or movement breaks would be beneficial for the employees." - Esther Gokhale on how corporations can include movement as a part of their employees' work day.

"A lot of people will only make an extreme change when they're going through extreme pain. But this is an opportunity for everyone to get involved and be proactive. Proactive health is so much easier than reactive health." - Josh Trent on how we can take advantage of the Gokhale Method to actively improve our health.

Become Fearless and Healthy

With over 9 years experience as a highly sought after health coach, Ian believes in a holistic approach to wellness and putting a large emphasis on mastering mindset. His vision is to help one million people step into their true calling and live a healthy, confident and fearless life. Ian’s motivation to create www.fearlessandhealthy.com was in large part influenced by his 25 year old brothers death in January 2015.

This tragedy was the catalyst behind his podcast, cross country move and desire to inspire people on a bigger scale. Ian believes that wellness can spark the change necessary to change lives both inside and out.

On this eye-opening show, Ian shares his top advice for coping with tragic loss, getting re-connected with yourself in a modern world, and the steps he believes will allow anyone to become the person they are meant to be. Discover how you can tap into your fears and make the changes to live the life that you desire.

Listen to Episode 101 as Ian Uncovers

  • How he helps people with busy schedules to really focus on improving their physical and mental health.
  • Why he values his alone time to focus on himself; especially during his morning rituals or breathing exercises.
  • His personal story of how gaining the college Freshman Fifteen was a real wake up call for him to focus on his health.
  • When he began building a career as a personal fitness trainer and what he learned from the initial experience.
  • How his brother, Casey, struggled with drug addiction and the impact his death had on him. Why this tragic experience really pushed him to work harder to help people with their health and wellness.
  • The moment when he decided to follow an uplifting life path and try to understand addiction by interviewing people for his magazine.
  • The difference between acting out of fear and acting out of love.
  • How we can begin to create behavior change and good habits.
  • The reason behind him asking himself the following questions after his brother's death, "What type of impact have I had on this world? Were the lives of other people going to be better because I was here? How am I going to make the lives of other people better?"
  • His fear of being video-taped and being seen in YouTube videos because of the reactions or comments that he would receive from the public.
  • Why people hold themselves back from achieving the health or self-expression that they want.
  • How we can choose our own journey by ignoring negative thoughts.
  • The power behind focusing on doing something that's going to help us get to where we want to be while serving other people at the same time.
  • Why there's no cookie cutter approach to living our lives. If we follow a "template" to live our lives, it can be so easy to get caught up in a shame spiral.
  • His morning ritual that he tries to follow each day.
  • Why it's okay if our morning isn't perfect and we don't do everything that we want to accomplish each day.
  • How he adjusts his morning routine if he's traveling or doesn't have the time to complete everything.
  • How he has used meditation as a tool to help him cope with the loss of his brother.
  • How meditation, stillness, and journaling all help to work our brain muscles and build cognitive strength.
  • Why it's okay to let go and not be consistent with journaling. We can give ourselves permission to not do something everyday.
  • The magic behind why our life journey doesn't have to be like anyone else's.
  • How positive thinking can change us: We don't have to live up to anyone's expectations and we're worthy on our own.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • We don't have to allow a personal tragedy to lead us on a destructive path. We have the ability and power to live a life that can help others and as well as ourselves. If you're seeking to improve your life, you will find the right tools and assistance to help you get there.
  • It's very common for someone to be afraid of what other people think about them. For example, we can easily fear judgement and not being accepted by our peers. But guess what? People are actually way more caught up in their own lives and problems than you think they might be. Other people don't have time to judge us because they're more caught up with what is going on with themselves.
  • Many of us think we need to have a perfect morning ritual or a template to set ourselves up for the day, but life doesn't actually work like that. Life happens and the reality is that sometimes there's just not enough time to complete everything, but that's okay. Just use whatever time you have available to you to do something that empowers and motivates you to do your best each day. Even if you spend 10 minutes focusing on your breathing; that can be enough to start your day with positive emotions.

Power Quotes From Ian Ryan

"We're the architect of our own future and sometimes we forget that." - Ian Ryan of the Fearless and Healthy Podcast

"You realize that when you get to the core of it, wellness is really about taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually. Paying attention to all three will affect how you show up for everyone else. You realize that when you get to the core of it, wellness is really about taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually. Paying attention to all three will affect how you show up for everyone else."- Ian Ryan on the importance of paying attention to our bodies and minds.

"When we share the tragedies that we experience, it can help other people who are in similar situations." - Ian Ryan on how we can all heal by talking about difficult experiences.

"Although my brother's death is a difficult topic for me to talk about, that life event shifted everything for me because I realized that no one is promised tomorrow. So many of us look at life as if we have time to put things off, but the reality is that life can be snatched away from you at any moment." - Ian Ryan on the impact of his brother's death.

"A couple of different things can happen to the mind when we experience tragedy. We can either take it in a direction where we go into addiction or we can turn that pain into art and service for other people." - Josh Trent on how we cope with a tragedy.

"It's nice to have a game plan and clarity, but the reality is that all of the pieces aren't going to make sense before you have to jump in and take action. So many of us think we're waiting for this magic bullet for everything to come together. The reality is that we have to jump, take action, and then figure things out along the way because life is a journey. Whatever area we want to change, we have to be able to step into it and be okay with imperfect action." - Ian Ryan on why it's okay to make changes in life without a perfect game plan.

"What type of impact do I want to make? I'm okay if my message doesn't resonate with everyone because it doesn't have to. However, if I don't do anything at all, then I'm not going to impact anyone." - Ian Ryan on how he got over his fear of sharing his message with YouTube videos.

"We're the architect of our own future and sometimes we forget that. We get into reaction mode to everything else that's going on in the world. But sometimes we have to take a step back, breathe, look at the vision we have of ourselves, visualize what we want, and try to act in alignment with the person that we want to try to become." - Ian Ryan on how we can create a clear purpose and vision for ourselves.

"If I only had ten minutes to do a morning ritual, I wouldn't check my smartphone, laptop, or e-mail. I'd just sit there and be alone with my breath for a couple of minutes and be grounded. Even if it's just a 100 count breathing exercise, do something because I guarantee you that it's going to make a huge impact if you're consistent with it." - Ian Ryan on the benefits of doing breathing exercises on a daily basis even if we don't have a lot of time.

"First make the commitment and decide that you're worthy of change. Just get started and realize that things will get better over time. You're going to build that emotional and physical muscle. You're going to get to where you want to be, but you just have to take that first step." -Ian Ryan on how you can use today to get started and make changes in your own life.

"In life, we can either react to what this world throws at us in an unfavorable way or we can choose to tap into our hearts and live with purpose and power." - Ian Ryan from the Fearless and Healthy Podcast intro

We Have Arrived

If you’ve been listening to Wellness Force for awhile, or if you’ve been with us since the beginning, you know by now that great things tend to take us time, effort, and the hardest one of them all - trusting the process - especially when it comes to our wellness. For episode 100, I’m walking you through nine of my favorite moments over the past 100 interviews, to pull the gems of wisdom, moments of laughter, and the real life action steps that I've learned to both trust and believe in.

I want to share my truth: This entrepreneurial and podcast path has not been 100% rainbows. Even since early childhood, I have known, deep down, that I march to the beat of a different drummer. Maybe you feel that too, and that’s why you’re here. I’ve faced inner and outer demons I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and since I woke up in 2011, I’ve done some really, really, hard work to let go of old stories about genetics, beliefs, and the people and things that don't serve my wellness. But yet as hard as this has been, I’ve also learned that when you operate from a place of love and service to others, and if you really want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

This podcast has been my home, my work, and my life for almost two years now, and today, I get to give thanks to YOU.

9 World Class Wellness Influencers In 2017

David Zappasodi

First up is my good friend and best-selling author of Immovable Heart, Unstoppable Mind, David Zappasodi. In our first clip, we’re talking about why wellness and achievement live in two different worlds. After 20 plus years as health and wellness professional, David believes that there is one universal reason that blocks most people from letting go off old their old weight. Let’s hear what and why right now with David, and be sure to listen to episode 072 for the full show.

Michael Strasner

Michael Strasner is one of the most respected leading experts in personal transformation, and taught me in person how to open my heart in the advanced emotional intelligence and leadership course that changed my compass forever. This was a really emotional episode for me as from Micheal’s teachings, I was able to connect with my father after 2 years of not speaking, and let go of some weight I’d been carrying around for years. In this clip, Michael is talking with us about the difference between our feelings and emotions, and commitment to self, how we can harness energy to guide us towards wellness without letting emotions hold us back. Let’s drop in with Michael, and be sure to listen to episode 027 for the full show.

Tom Bilyeu

Our next clip is with a powerful speaker, health entrepreneur, the co-founder of Quest Nutrition and the Host of Impact Theory, Tom Bilyeu. In this segment, Tom is talking about the promises we keep to ourselves and why. How his mission now with Impact theory spearheading a movement to facilitate mental transformation, both through its empowering content and by accelerating the businesses and entrepreneurs destined to change the world. Tom wants to free people from The Matrix. Said another way, he wants to end the poverty of poor mindset. Tom dives into what the no BS answer is that will help end metabolic disease and how understanding mythology and rituals can empower us in our wellness journey. Let’s listen in with Tom now and be sure to check out episode 098 for the full show.

Bonnie Kelly

Our next guest is going to take you to the basement for some cleaning! In a good way. Bonnie Kelly, author, speaker, certified coach and my friend returns to wellness force radio to talk about her new book True To Your Core and how we perceive, interrupt, and experience reality is unique to all of us, just like your thumb print. Bonnie is talking about why neurologically, we are an endangered species. Bonnie is an expert in personal development and helping people heal from their past, and in this short clip she's explaining the science and real talk about how our brain chemistry is just like a computer, and like any computer, it can be reprogrammed with inspired action. From upgrading our subconscious beliefs to what it really takes to write a new story, Bonnie is giving us the clarity and the insights on why we do, what we do. Be sure to check out episode 087 for the full show.

Nir Eyal

Nir Eyal is a best-selling author, speaker, and behavior change jedi-master that is educating people on how to build the sometimes challenging healthy habits we need to thrive in this technologically modern world. With the buzzing from apps, devices, and notifications pulling us away from our personal connections and conversations, Nir is teaching us about what he has come to know as the “Hook Model.” This is how companies create behaviors with technology that can benefit their users, or, turn them into addicts depending on their intention. In this clip, Nir pulls back the curtain for a look behind how companies use psychology to capture our attention, including triggers, actions, variable rewards and investment. Once we know how they do it, we can then consciously choose where we put our attention and avoid being disconnected from the relationships we care about. We can use technology to give us wellness, rather than take it away. You can hear Nir’s full story and mission on episode 048.

Daniel Schmachtenberger

Prepare to get you brain fed high octane on our next clip. Daniel Scmachtenberger, the Co-Founder of The Neurohacker Collective, shares far beyond how a Nootropics like Qualia can provide a comprehensive hardware upgrade for radical cognitive enhancement and emotional resilience, but also how he believes it creates the building blocks towards a better planet. Daniel is sharing his brilliant mind and expertise of the body and brain to teach us the why, how, and what these cognitive enhancers can do the health and speed of our mind. The was one of my all time favorite episodes on the podcast where I shared my n=1 experiment using nootropics, so be sure to download episode 096 for the full story.

Lisa Perkins

This is where we trust our process. Lisa Perkins my friend and nutrition expert, is uncovering exactly how we can trust ourselves when it comes to food, by using intuition, time, and focused attention. Lisa shares about how when it comes to nutrition, rules minus relationship equals rebellion. When we impose rules upon ourself without first trusting the promises we make to our body about nourishing it, it’s going to end in rebellion. She believes that easy is earned; in the beginning of any nutrition program, you’ll have to pay attention to yourself just like if you were learning any new skill. Lisa not only has the science and accredited background as a precision nutrition coach, but she also has a heart of gold. Click on episode 085 for the full show with Lisa.

Ryan Yokome

What happens in your physical body when you hear the word money? Do you get loose or get tight? Our next clip is with Ryan Yokome, an internationally recognized expert in the field of personal transformation. Ryan is the CEO of Money & Miracles Breakthrough Coaching and essentially he believes that money is just an exchange of energy. The challenge comes when we have an unhealthy relationship with our energy around money that can deflect it. Ryan has an extraordinary presence you’ll feel in this clip. He shares about how a lack of expression as a teen blocked his physical and financial wellness as an adult, and the stages of work he went through to overcome the block to call in the money and health he always wanted. Set your player for episode 079 to hear the full show.

Dan Pardi

Our last clip is with a man who needs no introduction - health and human behavior specialist, Dan Pardi. Dan’s return to Wellness Force Radio is shining light on how we can use what he calls HumanOS to cut through the noise of the overwhelming information online so we can really find the health we’re looking for. Dan’s mission and his systems of finding the right answers for our mind, body, and spirit are so profound, we put his voice in our show intro. So in this final clip, Dan shares why no matter how much we know, it won't always inspire us to take the right actions. "Knowing without doing is the same thing as not knowing. What matters is if the knowledge that you have will give you an effective health practice for the long term.” Dan is one of my most trusted sources for wellness so you’ll want to download episode 088 for later.

  • Who the best sources of health and wellness information are.
  • How we can use eccentric isometric and yielding isometric exercises to help stimulate and strengthen the muscle.
  • How long should we work out for? Understanding your body type is key to selecting what workouts to do and for how long you should be doing them. Some different body types include endomorph, ectomorph, and mesomorph.
  • Implement habit change with nutrition and movement to help you turn your health around.
  • How we all have a "fat thermostat" that affects our hormones and influences our emotional state. Changing habits will be better for our emotions compared to crash diets.
  • Avoid decision fatigue and plan to eat healthy while avoiding sugary snacks.
  • To sleep better, pay attention to the quality of your sleep: track your sleeping habits, stay away from electronic devices, lower the temperature in your bedroom, use devices or apps to help if necessary, and learn to balance your exercise routine.
  • Sleep quality usually depends on light, noise, temperature, and sound so make sure you create the best sleeping environment for your needs.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • We need to get in touch with what our bodies are telling us. No one truly knows our bodies better than we do ourselves and we're the only ones that can fix any problems that we have. To become healthier, we need to start listening to our bodies and making healthy changes that are in accordance with our limits.
  • With so much constant information available to us, it's hard to know who you can trust. Seek out the right health tips and guidance from people who are constantly evolving and willing to change their philosophies. They're willing to experiment and learn by trying new diets, exercise, and wellness technology.
  • To achieve sustainable health, focus on movement, sleep, and nutrition.  To stay strong, fit, and active, muscle stimulation will help you become stronger and healthy. Sleep is so important for our bodies and we need it to be able to function. If you're not sleeping enough to restore your lost energy, you should take a look at your nighttime ritual and see if you can improve it.

Power Quotes From Ted Ryce

"You've gotta set yourself up for success because willpower won't get you there." - Ted Ryce

"We are ancient bodies in a modern world. We have hunter-gatherer genes. We are designed to hunt for our foods, to be outside, to get sun in our skin. We're now really out of sync with where we came from." - Ted Ryce on how we live today compared to our ancestors.

"If wake up in the morning and you don't feel good, you're fatigued, and then you've got brain fog, you've gotta look at your lifestyle and you've gotta learn the rules of the human body. There's no psychologist that's going to fix that. There's no medication you'll be able to take that'll be able to fix your problem if you're living too out of sync with what your genes need to function optimally." - Ted Ryce on why we should focus on listening to our bodies for optimal health.

"I want everyone listening to understand that you can maintain a high level of fitness, strong muscles, and a healthy body well into old age." - Ted Ryce on why sustainable health is attainable

"You have to pay attention to your body and yes, you have to work, but pushing too hard is what we call over-reaching because you should never push so long that it turns into over-training. If you're over-reaching to the point that it's affecting your sleep, that shouldn't be done for no more than a week." - Ted Ryce on  how much we should exercise so that we can still sleep well at night

"You gotta know your limits and you gotta understand these physiological processes that are trying to push your behavior in certain ways. You gotta do things for you that can become a lifestyle. When you do that, everything becomes easier." - Ted Ryce on why changing habits can turn around our lives for the better

"We are not designed to go without sleep. It has a high cost and if you're struggling to get going, you better start looking into your nighttime ritual." - Ted Ryce on the importance of sleep

"There is a solution to every problem. It may not be the solution that you want, it may not be the solution that you were hoping for, but there is a solution to every single problem. And in a world where we have so much access to information and there's 7 billion people on this planet, you are not alone and someone has figured it out. The solution is out there; never give up and never stop searching."  - Ted Ryce's mantra for when he's going through a difficult time.

Tom Bilyeu is the founder and host of Impact Theory and the co-founder of Quest Nutrition.

After spending six years growing Quest into a billion-dollar company by helping people transform their bodies, Tom is now focused on completing the second half of his mission: transforming people’s minds through his new venture with Impact Theory.

Impact theory is a show spearheading a movement to facilitate mental transformation, both through its empowering content and by accelerating the businesses and entrepreneurs destined to change the world.

Impact Theory's mission is to free people from The Matrix. Said another way, they want to end the poverty of poor mindset.

  • Understanding that we're not born with instincts. We train our instincts by learning from our mistakes.
  • Tom's view on Law of Attraction: It helps improve our emotions, but won't give us want we want. We have to work for want we want by improving our skill set.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • Discover what makes you excited and allow that feeling to grow on its own. Let an idea capture your attention and focus on it.
  • To understand habitual negative thinking, we need to learn how the brain works and why we make these thought connections. In order to mentally grow and get rid of old software, we can build one skill after another to improve our mindset.
  • We can learn to become antifragile to negative thoughts. We can end negative thinking  about ourselves by not fighting it, but by learning and growing from our life experiences. If you attack negative thoughts, they will only grow stronger.

Power Quotes From Tom

"Once you realize that you can do anything that you set your mind to, how you spend your time becomes a spiritual consideration." - Tom Bilyeu

"Wellness is really a 360 degree endeavor. It's not just the body, it's the mind as well." - Tom Bilyeu on wellness

"By letting an idea capture your attention, really focusing on it, going deep, and asking how is this usable and then putting it to use in your life and taking those steps to act on the things that you learn; you get a sense of this self reinforcing cycle." - Tom Bilyeu on how we can get excited about an idea.

"Stop worrying about being a champion and start worrying about becoming capable of the championship performance. Because that's totally different. That's about grinding it out and earning skills through hard work, actually becoming good, and becoming capable of the extraordinary."  - Tom Bilyeu on how acquiring a skill set can make us unstoppable

"The big breakthrough in my life was the day I stopped thinking of myself as smart because I wasn't and I started thinking of myself as a learner."  - Tom Bilyeu on how he defeated negative thinking and stopped comparing himself to other people.

"We are wired to support the tribe. We are wired to support other people and this will give us fulfillment and purpose. There is nothing more pleasurable from a neurochemical standpoint than that."  - Tom Bilyeu on the power of helping each other become better.

"Optimists tend to be stronger responders to placebos. The placebo effect is a pervasive phenomenon; in fact, it is part of the response to any active medical intervention. The placebo effect points to the importance of perception and the brain's role in physical health. The opposite of a Placebo Effect is a Nocebo Effect. A Nocebo effect causes the perception that the phenomenon will have a negative outcome to actively influence the result. Pessimism may now be correlated with the Nocebo Effect.' - Jesse Lawler on WFR 097

Brainpower Upgrade

For anyone who's ever been interested in increasing their brainpower and learning more about what their body is capable of and how to get started, this is a great Wellness Force Radio podcast episode for you to listen to!

What an amazing time for all of us to be alive with all of this technology to help us enhance and improve our minds and bodies. On this week's episode, I had an incredible conversation with previous WFR guest, Axon Labs Founder, and Smart Drug Smarts (SDS) Podcast Host, Jesse Lawler about smart drugs, meditation, the placebo effect, and how we can take that next step forward to learning more about ourselves.

If you tuned into last week's episode with Daniel Schmachtenberger, we dive even deeper this week to uncover how smart drugs like nootropics not only alter or state of consciousness, but how they can help benefit our lives and wellness as well.

Enhance Your Brainpower With Smart Drugs

"Smart drugs are a part of a wide family that doesn't really have a common starting point." - Jesse Lawler

Jesse explains that there is one main, common misconception about the origins of smart drugs. It's a popular disbelief that all of the smart drugs that are out there just operate in the same way. Many believe that they're similar to the drugs (Ritalin and Adderall ) that are used to help ADHD.

However, there's so much more to smart drugs than we originally thought was possible.

Smart drugs don't have one common root and each one individually helps us to enhance different cognitive senses:

  • Memory
  • Mood
  • Energy
  • Focus

How to Choose the Perfect Smart Drug for You

If you're curious in trying a smart drug, don't rush into taking anything immediately without giving yourself enough time to think if it's right for you.

A lot of us already take a common cognitive enhancer: Coffee.

Consider if coffee already helps you achieve what you want more of: energy, focus, or mood. A lot of us already know our limits with coffee and we can only drink so much of it before we become over anxious and jittery. If the right amount of coffee (1-3 cups or more if need be) already gives you what you want when you need it, do you really need to add a nootropic to the combination?

Today it's quite popular to add different substances to your coffee and Bulletproof Coffee is a great example of that.  Some people like adding aniracetam, coconut oil, and grass-fed butter to their coffee, but it might not be for everyone.

When trying a new smart drug, you have to take it one step at a time to see how different combinations affect you. Keep in mind that  you don't have to try everything to see what affect it will have on you.

If you already have a good idea of what can happen when you take a smart drug and you don't think it will benefit you, then you can avoid taking it without the trial period.

Alternatives to Taking Smart Drugs

As already mentioned, coffee is a great cognitive enhancer without someone needing to take additional smart drugs.

Another one is green tea. Green tea contains ethylene and GABA which has the same effect on the body as coffee does except it's much more gentler. Green tea doesn't have caffeine so it will help you be focused and calm without the jittery side effects.

Achieve a New State of Consciousness

"Stay curious and be open to exploring different states of consciousness. Look for anything that will help you improve your health." - Josh Trent

Today, we are discovering that there is a large variety of different ways that we can achieve a new state of consciousness.

How can smart drugs help us achieve consciousness?

Specific smart drugs have been created help us improve our memory, creativity, and attentiveness.

Jess said that in general, our brain is able to keep track of 7 ideas in our working memory at a time (some people are able to take on between 5-9 ideas, but 7 is the average). But if you're able to add just one more working memory to the mix, think about what else you could achieve!

Why are tech CEOs in Silicon Valley microdosing on LSD?

Psychedelics have been used regularly to help people be more creative in their field and it's certainly gaining momentum for top executives in Silicon Valley.

This might appear to be just a hippie phenomenon, but CEOs are finding that small doses of LSD are helping them do more than they could have done before. Even former Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, credited LSD to influencing his progress in the world of technology.

We're not supporting the use of LSD, but it's fascinating that psychedelic use is now encouraging further research into how LSD affects the mind and our state of consciousness.

Learn more in Jesse's interview with Dr. James Fadiman on the use of psychedelics to achieve a new state of consciousness.

Using Oxygen to Enhance Our Consciousness: Holotropic & Wim-hof Breathing

Believe it or not, oxygen is a natural drug that can take you to a new state of consciousness. There are two types of breathing techniques that you can use to get you to the state that you want to achieve: Grof's Holotropic Breathwork and the Wim-hof breathing technique.

Ayahuasca: A Natural Smart Drug

Jesse discussed the uses of Ayahuasca with Dr. Rick Strassman on the SDS episode, Breakthrough Work With "The Spirit Molecule."

Ayahuasca is a DMT (di-methyl-triptamine). DMTs are actually all around us and they're even a naturally occurring psychedelic made in the body! Yes, you read that correctly. DMT is naturally found in small amounts in every living thing.

Ayahuasca can have a negative effect on the body such as nausea and diarrhea, but plants can have an overall positive impact on our consciousness. In fact, Jesse believes that more people should be more open to experimentation. If something can lead to a positive outcome like it can for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) survivors, then it could be worth giving it a shot.

"If you have a condition like PTSD, then almost nothing should be off the table as a potential therapy. There are plenty of success stories with people treating depression, PTSD, and things like that with psychedelic therapies. If you've got a significant problem that you're trying to solve, it seems like it should be one of the things that you certainly can consider. " - Jesse Lawler on using plant medicines and psychedelics to help us heal our minds.

Achieve Mindfulness Through Meditation

One of the easiest ways to naturally get to a different state of consciousness everyday is through the power of meditation.

From beginners to the advanced, there's not just one way to meditate and you can use different apps or pieces of technology like the MUSE Headband.

  • Silent meditation
  • Vipassana
  • Focusing on breathing
  • Listening to be in the present moment

A lot of people tend to go too fast, too quickly with meditation. Meditation won't be very effective for you if rush into doing hours of meditation compared to just a couple of minutes when you're a beginner.

Meditation that helps to quiet the mind can be good for someone who is depressed. It helps to get rid of nagging negative thoughts inside the mind and shut out everything.

"The style of meditation that a person chooses is really going to affect what they're practicing and getting their brain to be better at. So to be aware of what your meditation goal is, you will gravitate towards a certain style."  - Jesse Lawler

When it comes to meditation, there is no one size fits all. Just try different forms of meditation until you come cross the best way for you to become more mindful.

The Connection Between Placebo Effect & Willpower

"You're either an abstainer or a moderator." - Gretchen Rubin on willpower

Can our willpower fatigue with too much use (like a muscle) or is it just something that we're born with?

"Willpower is probably something that does get exhaustive in a person, but I think that something that looks like willpower to an outsider might not actually be willpower to that person. A person can train themselves to avoid Doritos to the point that it takes zero willpower to avoid it now. Willpower's just not an option to that person." - Jesse Lawler

It can be very difficult for some people to control themselves and have the willpower to prevent themselves from eating unhealthy foods.

Both the optimistic and negative mindset on health can impact our willpower. Those with a negative mindset will believe less in their own health and wellness than people who are overly optimistic that something like a smart drug or meditation can help them.

Having an optimistic mindset will help you find something that works for you, but a negative  mindset can hinder your progress to look for something that can help you.

"Optimists tend to be stronger responders to placebos. The Placebo Effect is when we put thoughts into our mind that we do something or there will be a positive outcome. The opposite of a Placebo Effect is a Nocebo Effect in which case things will be bad and get worse. Pessimism might be correlated with the Nocebo Effect." - Jesse Lawler

Jesse's Own N=1 Self Experiment

"One of the greatest advantages of experimentation is just realizing that you can do it. It's a continuous reminder of our power to start changes in our own lives when you're just screwing with something to see if it works in your own life. It's a constant reminder that we're always in flux and flux can't change but at least you can direct it." - Jesse Lawler

An N=1 self experiment is understanding what works for you through a process of elimination or a process of strategic testing. During the experiment you might use self quantifying devices such as wearable trackers, apps, and more that allow for self-optimization.

Josh shared his own N=1 self experiment on last week's episode, Emotional Resilience, Nootropics & Outsmarting the Modern World with Daniel Schmachtenberger

Jesse's N=1 experiment ended up being a total crash and burn for him. He participated in the Uberman Sleep Schedule which meant he had to break up his sleep into 20 minute blocks that were separated by 3.5 hours throughout the day. However, that's way less hours of sleep than what the majority of us need in 24 hours!

The Uberman Sleep Schedule is for people who want to be more productive during the day. The main idea is that you train your brain to drop into REM really quickly, but it's not a restorative way to sleep at all.

Even though Jesse doesn't recommend this intense sleep schedule, he has been using the Oura Ring to keep track of his health. Why a ring instead of a bracelet? It's because the blood vessels are closer to the surface of the skin. Therefore, the ring is supposed to collect more accurate data than a bracelet.

Whatever you may decide to purchase, make sure you invest in something that is:

  • Safe
  • Can help improve your health
  • Usable for long term results
  • Worth the investment

Become your own citizen scientist. It's not about the app, bracelet, tracker etc. or anything you're using as long as it lines up with your main intentions. As a citizen scientist, begin your own N=1 self experiement by having a clear goal that something is going to help you perform better.

lauren bryant wellness forceLauren Bryant is the Podcasting Assistant and Show Notes Writer for Wellness Force Radio. She has a BBA in both Marketing and Spanish for Business as well as certificates in Advanced Business Communications and International Business from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire.

Lauren’s wellness journey began at a young age when she joined her local YMCA swim team, The Wave, of La Crosse, WI. One of the most profound views on wellness that anyone has said to her was when she was an assistant swim coach for that same YMCA swim team.

One day during a practice, former head swim coach, Jon Brenner, shared with her that the most important thing about coaching the swimmers was that “It doesn’t matter if they become the best athletes in the world. What’s important is that we give them the tools and guidance they need to live a healthy, active lifestyle for the rest of their lives.”

Since hearing those words, she has taken it to heart to not only focus on continuously living her own healthy lifestyle, but to help others pursue their wellness goals as well.

Lauren’s not only an avid swimmer, but a fan of running, yoga, cooking, and doing any activity outside that involves being surrounded by nature. In the Fall of 2014, she completed a long-awaited goal of walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

According to Lauren, wellness is about finding gratitude and joy in doing any type of physical or self-care activity that we love. Wellness means providing ourselves with self-love, good nutrition, and the inner peace that our individual minds and bodies need.

"We fully believe that optimized human beings lead to a better world. People being productive and creative in whatever it is that is theirs to do. But in many ways, our modern world works against us.” - Daniel Schmachtenberger, Co-Founder of The NeuroHacker Collective

On this special episode of Wellness Force Radio, Daniel shares far beyond how Nootropics like Qualia can provide a comprehensive hardware upgrade for radical cognitive enhancement and emotional resilience, but also how he believes it is creating the building blocks towards a better planet.

You, The N Equals One [2:47]

In a world of mass distractions, responsibilities, cumulative stressors and more notifications than ever in the palms of hands, millions of Americans have long since met their cognitive and emotional capacity.

Cognitive capacity is a nuanced relationship between many variables. Optimizing for one variable of cognitive function at the expense of other critical ones would not give us the result of comprehensive enhancement of human capability. For instance, having drive without the ability to focus well, or willpower without emotional resilience. For that reason, The Neurohacker Collective have designed a formula that deliberately balances subjective effects to give meaningful enhancement in a comprehensive way – a whole system upgrade called Qualia.

If you're here reading, you felt the call towards Qualia. If you're in the contemplation phase or in the process of learning, this is an optimal time for your N=1.

What is N=1?

N-of-1 or single subject clinical trials consider an individual patient as the sole unit of observation in a study investigating the efficacy or side-effect profiles of different interventions. The ultimate goal of an n-of-1 trial is to determine the optimal or best intervention for an individual patient using objective data-driven criteria.

From baseline to Qualia for 4 weeks, here are the 5 steps to start your own personal N:1 experiment in emotional resilience and cognitive performance:

  1. Inspired Action: Order your 30 day supply of Qualia
  2. Baseline: Once your Qualia is received, take a baseline memory, reason, concentration and/or comprehensive cognitive test(s) on either Quantified Mind or Cambridge Brain Sciences and mark the date
  3. Stage 1: Begin stage 1 of Qualia on an empty stomach each morning for 30 days. Download the Qualia Quick Start Guide for full directions on stage 2 and total program here
  4. Journal: Each day for 30 days, journal for 5-7 minutes after your meditation session, or at minimum, during the same time each day.
  5. After 30 days: Congrats, you did it! How do you feel? What did you learn about yourself and Qualia? Now, reassess the same tests again for memory, reason, concentration and/or comprehensive cognitive performance (then email Josh and tell him how you feel!)

Rising Above All The Noise [11:36]

"What could a person of normal intelligence do with their life if they fully dedicated themselves to developing themselves comprehensively for the benefit of humanity?" - Richard Buckminster Fuller

People of all ages seek thier life purpose and calling. Maybe you've been called to a career or a responsibility that you now realize is keeping you from what you feel is really your life calling?

If you're aware your vocation doesn't coincide with who you really are, you have the power change it because it's never too late to start a new path that benefit yourself and others.

Rising above all the noise of modern society that's distracting you starts by creating the space to look inside.

To begin, use meditation or box-breathing to enter a calm mindset in the stillness and ask yourself these questions:

  • What does the future of the world look like?
  • How does this transition look like for everyone? What does it look like for me?
  • If all my financial needs were met, what would I do?
  • What would be the most meaningful thing for me to do?

Answering these questions will raise your awareness above the noise and closer to true alignment with your most authentic self.

"By asking yourself these questions, we're not looking to answer how do we gain or how do we win at life. Rather, we're looking at what problems in the world bother us the most and what interest us."- Daniel Schmachtenberger

About Daniel Schmachtenberger [13:08]

Daniel Schmachtenberger is a social engineer and evolutionary philosopher and strategist. He is the Founder of Critical Path InstituteThe Emergence Project, and The Co-Founder of The Neurohacker Collective. With an early childhood in the Transcendental Meditation community of Fairfield, Iowa, Daniel was homeschooled on the works of Buckminster Fuller, Fritjof Capra, and David Bohm.

After many relocations in childhood, Daniel returned to Fairfield to further math and eastern philosophy studies at Maharishi University, before delving into the work of his adult life. After accumulating comprehensive inventories on behavioral influence, coupled with an already comprehensive literacy of complex systems and whole systems science, he then founded The Emergence Project and began working with a host of luminaries to tackle global scale problems with global scale solutions.

Concurrently, he researched the epistemological frontier of neuroscience, delving deeply into integrative medicine as well as emergent neurotech tools and psychological techniques to optimize solutions on both sides of the mind/brain interface. All of these approaches, within an overarching framework of whole systems problem solving, have resulted in his axiomatic deconstruction of assumed scientific boundaries, and the emergence of a more integrally connected body of knowledge from which to understand scholarship. Daniel is not only a founder at Neurohacker Collective, but moreover a uniquely educated pioneer who is broadening the definition of scientific rigor itself.

What are Nootropics? [19:57]

Nootropic is a chemical that enhances some aspect of our cognitive ability beyond our normal capability without any impactful side affects.

When our brain power and cognitive ability drops below normal baseline, Nootropics help  to support existing and to create new capacities for our brainpower.

Nootropics like Qualia are not "medicine," but they can optimize our capability to overcome when we face different challenges such as brain fog.

The Difference between Nootropics and "Smart Drugs"

A lot of people will take "smart drugs" such as Adderall to help them focus, but Adderall also has a lot of long term side affects such as irritability, anxiety, loss of empathy and ability for digit span.

Adderall can help enhance one aspect, but unlike Nootropics that support systemic enhancement, it won't fully supplement the brain in a comprehensive manner.

Emotional Resilience, Curiosity & Wellness [24:50]

How many times have you felt the pull of distraction today? Maybe caught yourself looking at your phone too much? Did you try to have a conversation with someone, but they were absorbed by their phone?

It is easy to become slaves to emails, notifications, and social media messages. So much so, that the present moment is lost.

When we're practicing emotional resilience however, we can take on deeper personal connections, and our biggest and brightest goals. When we're present, we're naturally curious, which allows us unlimited access to our wellness force: our ability to create a positive vibration in that moment, and in the collective world.

It's the burning curiosity of visionaries like the Co-Founder of The Neurohacker CollectiveDaniel Schmachtenberger, who believes that it is now both possible and necessary for human beings to dramatically upgrade our individual and collective capacities and safeguard the wellbeing of all, and he is on a mission to help build a global alliance of responsible, empowered individuals and like minded groups dedicated to making this vision a reality.

Cognitive Enhancement [28:13]

"We believe that it is now both possible and necessary for human beings to dramatically upgrade our individual and collective capacities and safeguard the well-being of all. Our mission is to help build a global alliance of responsible, empowered individuals and like minded groups dedicated to making this vision a reality." -Daniel Schmachtenberger

At a young age, Daniel realized that he was experiencing brain fog. In order to enhance his thinking, he began to focus on underlying disease structures to find the root of the problem. Unlike some acute diseases that can be cured with one medication, areas of health such as brain fog, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's are more complicated and can have several root causes.

To help end his brain fog, Daniel needed to enhance his brain by providing it with an optimal cognitive bandwidth. So he asked himself, how could a person enhance their own cognitive ability?

To understand the brain's ability and how we can reach cognitive enhancement, Daniel studied the following areas:

  • Cognitive chemistry
  • Nootropics
  • Brain nutrients
  • Neuro chemistry and structure
  • Smart drugs
  • Short term vs. long term memory
  • Verbal fluency and ability
  • Digital spain
  • Focus and concentration
  • Thinking speed
  • Neurotransmitters (dopamine, glutamine)

Get 10x More Done In Life [37:01]

"Increasing the quality of our experience means less subjective suffering and more subjective happiness. That's important because human experience is intrinsically meaningful. By experiencing human capability and the pre-disposition to solve problems, we create things of meaning which also ends up increasing the experience of other people." - Daniel Schmachtenberger

Every single one of us has a hidden meaning or purpose, just waiting to be discovered. But we can't find it if we're distracted by incessant messages, media, or outside noise. We're all either motivated or inspired by numerous factors and in different manners.

Our world view, personal beliefs, economic situation, and even knowing our biology can motivate or direct us towards what we feel called to do.

How we can use this motivation to our advantage? We can biologically optimize our lives with technology and biomarker data.

Using technology and biomarker data, we can improve what we has human beings are capable of doing in this world. Sources such as WellnessFX, 23 And Me, and Ubiome can give us the genetics data we need to help us track our progress while using a nootropic like Qualia to enhance our lives and increase our emotional resilience.

"Qualia is not your golden ticket to everything, but it can support you by enhancing your ability to do things more effectively and grow your capability to make better decisions." -  Daniel Schmachtenberger

How To Increase Our Emotional Presence [46:12]

"There's circuitry in the brain that actually wired us to care for other people and tribes. That's how we would have survived." - Jason Silva of Brain Games

We are meant to be in a tribe. When we're surrounded by people who give us the compassion and support that we need to grow, we all win. But not everyone is born with or capable of being empathetic towards others. How can we create more empathy and compassion?

According to Daniel, humans have "hardware" and "software" that connects us with the "collective" or the rest of the world. Together, all of our physical and social needs are interdependent upon each other.

Daniel gave a great example of how we can take care of ourselves while also being omni-considerate. To begin, think about life would be like without plants. Our bioshphere created both us and plants. Therfore, without plants, we wouldn't have the means to live- no air nor food. The same goes for water and gravity.

We are completely interdependent with the planet and everyone else.

Our Actions Affect Everything [53:23]

With that thought in mind, we can increase our emotional presence by being more present with our actions or what we buy. Every time we make a decision, we can make the best choice by thinking about not only how it will affect ourselves, but everything else in the biosphere as well.

We're a growing population and we need to be emotionally present with how our actions are affecting not only people, but the planet.

See the World Differently

"Practice looking at the world through other people's eyes." - Daniel Schmachtenberger

One of Daniel's favorite ways to increase emotional presence is just to think about looking at the world through the perspective of other people.

  • What other people value
  • What can hurt them
  • Why they are asking for something
  • The reason they feel upset or feel a certain way about something

This way of thinking can help us grow our wellness through better relationships with loved ones and create positive connections with everyone else that we come into contact with.

Emotional Resilience [47:30]

With all of the challenges that we face in this world, it can be emotionally draining at times. At some point we may feel like we've lost our original path to living the life that we want. The life we wanted that gave us purpose.

Nootropics like Qualia can support people in get engaged once again with what they are curious about.

As Daniel discusses during the 2016 event "The Hive Panel: The Future of Humanity and Systems Thinking" he believes that only fully optimized human beings can improve the world.

Jan 10, 2017

There continues to be a stigma and unclear understandings about eat disorders and mental illness. Fortunately, more people are coming forward to discuss why it's so important that we try to understand and help those who are struggling each day.

One of these leaders is 18 year-old University of California, Santa Cruz student and Yoga Teacher, Maris Degener. Maris began her wellness journey as she was recovering from her eating disorder at a hospital. She was given the tools and assistance that she needed to help her body recover from her disorder, but she realized that the medical center didn't provide what she needed to help her mind heal.

Even though she's now a freshman in college, get ready to hear a great deal of insight from Maris on how we can discover self purpose, uncover happiness, and help change the stigma surrounding eating disorders and mental illness.

"They might not be able to understand that what's going through a person's mind doesn't represent the person, but the mental illness." - Maris Degener on why it's important to separate the person from their disorder.

Ending Myths about Mental Illness

"Mental illness as a whole is so difficult to treat because it's so unique to the individual. We're still not 100% certain about how exactly mental illness manifests in people." -  Maris Degener

There are lot a of myths surrounding mental illness and we're still not quite sure what could be the cause of it. For some people it might be genetics or trauma or other life situations they experienced that create enough of an impact to affect their well-being.

There's a false belief that eating disorders come from a place of vanity. However, the root cause is so much deeper than that. Eating disorders and mental illness can come from a person working through their personal life issues. It might be their way to cope with trauma, feeling lost, or as a means to stay grounded when they feel out of control.

Recognize the Signs of an Eating Disorder

Here are some different ways to recognize the signs of an eating disorder.

The person is _____:

  • not finding joy in food.
  • finding it stressful to eat or be around food.
  • suddenly displaying stress during social situations where food is involved.
  • weighing and measuring what they are eating.
  • eating different foods that they didn't eat before.

Shred Other People's Expectations

"Find whatever lights you up when other people are telling you that you should be doing something different with your life." - Maris Degener

Maris made a really great point about the predicted expectations that society has about life and happiness. We can go through these scenarios at different points throughout life, but the pressure can be at its strongest when we have all of this pressure to join extracurricular activities in order to get into college.

Leave The Predicted Life Path

When we face so many expectations that other people have about OUR life, we can feel numb and shut out our emotions.

When we create our expectations and a life for ourselves, we find happiness. So go on and shred every idea that you had before about what it means to be a happy and successful person. Discover what you want out of this life and create your own path for yourself.

Shred the expectations that other people have for you life and start to feel YOUR emotions.

For Maris, she was a talented swimmer, but she didn't enjoy the sport or the competition. After recovering from her eating disorder, she began a new journey in which she was more open and honest with herself about what what she loves and what makes her happy.

At first, it was an uncomfortable feeling, but before she knew it, she felt free to follow her passion for yoga.

"I was torn because I wasn't sure if I was supposed to do things because I was passionate about them or was I supposed to do things because it was the right thing to do. So I was struggling with the traditional lack of identity, but I was also playing with this idea of what it meant to be authentic." - Maris Degener on trying to find her purpose during high school

About Maris Degener

Maris is an 18 year old certified yoga teacher specializing in the healing and restorative power of Vinyasa
Flow. With a past of overcoming eating disorders and mental illness, Maris is a recovering pessimist and
perfectionist who is now fearlessly authentic.

At the age of 13 she was diagnosed with a life-threatening eating disorder that led her on a journey to regain her mental and physical health. She now seeks to spread the healing powers of yoga, whole foods, and mindful living through her blog and teaching practice.

She has been featured by CNN health and across the media being spotlighted for her fearless authenticity and raising awareness of eating disorders and mental health.

Jan 3, 2017

To celebrate the start of 2017, this episode is dedicated to spotlighting  7 powerful episodes and remembering what they taught us about our wellness path in 2016.

It has been such an incredible year on the Wellness Force Radio podcast! There have been so many amazing guests who have opened up to us to share their stories and teach us how we can improve our health and wellness.

On this episode, you will listen to seven inspiring conversations for seven steps to greater wellness in 2017.

If you’re listening to the Wellness Force Radio podcast for the first time, this will be a unique experience for you to get in touch with the types of guests and topics we dive deep with on the show. If you're a returning listener, this will be an incredible chance for you to absorb seven powerful concepts from these world-class leaders to help you in 2017.

Gretchen Rubin: The Secret to Habit Change

"Unfortunately, we've all learned from tough experience that no magic, one-size-fits-all solution exists and that the real secret to habit change is that in order to change our habits, we must first know ourselves." -  Gretchen Rubin

According to Gretchen, the secret to habit change is to get to know ourselves through self exploration and awareness. We're not all the same and we need to understand what makes us happy and motivated to work hard.

One great example that Gretchen gave was the difference between some one enjoys simplicity vs. abundance. One person may work great in a simple environment with no clutter, but maybe another person feels energized in an office stacked with books and other collections.

Once you've found what helps you stay motivated, you can create new habits to keep that motivation going while respecting other people's differences and what motivates them at the same time.

Melissa Hartwig: Food Freedom Forever

"Food scientists have engineered chemicals and processed foods that light up the reward centers in the brain for a different reason than nature intended. Not because they provide vital nutrition, but because they're scientifically designed to stimulate our taste buds." - Melissa Hartwig

It is said that the gut is our body's second brain because if we pay close attention to it, it can tell us when we're full and what nutrition we need. During this podcast episode, Melissa discussed the difference between Satiation and Satiety and how they can help us create healthy habits.

What is Satiation?

Satiation is your brain's perception that you've had enough food and you're done eating. Satiation basically occurs when you're sick of eating. Maybe your mouth is tired from chewing food, you're sick of the taste of the food that you're eating, or you're so full that you can't even eat anything else.

Satiation can easily happen when you've eaten foods such as popcorn, brownies, chocolate or any food that's difficult to stop eating once you've started. For me, it's super hard to stop eating chips with salsa and/or guacamole.

What is Satiety?

Satiety takes place in the stomach when the body knows that it has enough various nutrients to be full and satisfied as far as survival goes. When you eat a grass-fed steak with green vegetables and perhaps some healthy fats, your body has had enough without you needing to over consume other foods.

How can we begin to focus on eating more foods that help us feel satiety?

Focus on consuming foods that nature intended for us to eat. Stay away from overly processed foods with lots of preservatives and sugars and eat natural fruits, vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats. Focus on eating satiety foods so that you get to a place where you can trust the signals that your gut, not your brain, is telling you.

Dr. Jade Teta: The 5 Metabolic Myths

"Metabolism is designed to keep us in homeostasis and help us adapt to the stresses of the world around us whether that stress is sleep deprivation, decreased calories, over exercising, or emotional stress." - Dr. Jade Teta

During the episode with Dr. Jade Teta, he explained what the difference is between Dieters and Detectives.

Dieters go by the rules, but unfortunately, this is what keeps them stuck in the same place or worse as they move form one diet to the next. Dieters follow all of these rules, but there actually aren't any rules at all, just guidelines. That's where the Detectives come in.

Detectives follow the guidelines and learn skills that allow them to be flexible and discover their own nutrition method. Why is this better than following a strict set of rules of what to eat and not eat? Because every person is different and we all have different metabolism.

The Goldilock Zone

According to Dr. Teta, the key to finding the right metabolism balance and the perfect amount of nutrition, exercise, and relaxation is to follow the Golidlock Zone method.

You can get in the Goldilock zone when you have not too much, not too little, but just the right amount of:

  • Fats
  • Carbs
  • Proteins
  • Stress
  • Exercise

When everything is balanced, your metabolism is right where you want it to be. Just like metabolism, everyone's Goldilock Zone will be unique. To help you get to the Goldilock Zone, focus on HEC.

What is HEC?

HEC stands for Hunger, Energy, and Cravings. HEC helps you to understand if a diet is working for you. After each meal, pay attention to how your body feels, responds, and what your biomarkers are telling you.

"If your HEC is in check, then your metabolism is balanced."- Dr. Jade Teta

Dr. John Gray - ADHD, Brain Health, & Sex Addiction

"We demand the instant gratification that releases the dopamine in our brain when we're hyper stimulated.  Instead of over simulating our brains, need to bring it back it back to the present moment. We need to be happy with what's here rather than creating drama or addiction." - Dr. John Gray

Our society is always looking for the best, new thing out there. The best TV screens, the best food, the most romantic relationships etc. But our brain can also thrive on sadness, stress, and addiction

All of these factors and more can give us instant gratification because they release high levels of dopamine in our brains. Once we've experienced this natural stimulation, we keep wanting more or we'll easily get bored.

However, if too much dopamine is released into the brain, the body regulates itself and ends up lowering the amount of dopamine sensors. The higher the stimulation, the longer it takes for the sensors to return to normal.

Recover from Hyper Stimulation

Not only will time help heal the body from hyper stimulation and high dopamine levels, but a healthy nutrition is key to helping the body recover back to normal.

Rather than being bored with what we have and ready to move one, we need to learn to be happy and appreciate what we have in our lives. Looking out for and buying the latest TV will only give you instant gratification; it cannot bring you pure joy and happiness in your life.

Nutrition is key, but so are minerals such as lithium. With just the right amount of lithium and another alkalizing minerals such as potassium and calcium, they can help lower our amount of stress. However, too much lithium can create high levels of anxiety.

Gay & Katie Hendricks - Love vs. Fear:Body Intelligence in a Modern World

"Love will triumph because love is bigger than fear. You can test that out in your own being by noticing what happens when you love your fear. Suddenly a whole new world opens up." - Gay Hendricks

For some people, self-love is something that can be difficult to find and tap into. However, if we don't love or honor ourselves, then we cannot honestly begin to trust and get to know ourselves.

"I saw that down at the bottom of everything, you're either in love or in fear at any given moment. That you're either open to cherishing yourself, cherishing other people, the universe around you, you're opening to listening, you're opening to being present OR you're scared about something and that shuts you down." - Gay Hendricks

To better understand ourselves, Gay suggests that we think about something that we're afraid of. We need to discover that fear, feel it, and love it. Love that fear just like you love a person and with all of that positive emotion, you can use that love as a means to start loving yourself just the way you are.

Drew Canole - Self-Love, Juicing, and Transformation

"A lot of people are trying to find what they're purpose is. When you clear your space and put yourself in a place where you can just start listeneing more, your purpose is going to show up. It's that thing that's always more or less been there, but you don't think is possible." - Drew Canole

The people that we spend the most time with can say a lot about who we are and what we want out of life. During Drew's interview with Josh, he explained how Tribe Affects Our Vibe

Each year, Drew takes time to get a clear picture of himself. What he loves about himself, but also what he dislikes and disapproves. Do the same for yourself and then think about people who you think are the same or have similar personal growth development goals.

You create your tribe by finding and connecting with people who have the same vibe going on. People who share similar characteristics. If you are or want to be a certain way, you'll bring similar people into your life.

Transforming Your Life By Finding Your WHY

Drew also spoke about the Whydentity Process and discovering a why that makes us cry. This is the moment when we identify with the identity that we have in mind with who we are.

Your why is your joy or reason as to why you like something. If we can find joy in something that we're doing, we can create something amazing. In the moment that you find your why, you will omit self-love, happiness, and success. So much so that it rubs off on other people and they will feel passionate about something that they love too.

Mark Divine: Creating the Unbeatable Mind

"The Warrior Master is someone who is extremely humble. It is someone who is extremely emotionally grounded and has cultivated a love for his teammates that is uncommon and also has a love for his enemies. They realize that everyone has the same essence. It's just what's layered on top that makes us different." - Mark Divine

We learned something important about the power of love and respecting other people when Mark Divine spoke on the podcast.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to open our hearts to other people. Especially if we've experienced trauma such as PTSD, it's not easy to open up after feeling shut down for so long. But if there's two things that Mark learned during his 20 years as a Marine, it's that a warrior is committed to two things: Self Mastery and Service.

However, we can't serve if we don't work on ourselves and many people do not have the training and methodology to work towards mastery. Mastery is just as important as sleeping, eating, and simply being. To reach self mastery and service, we need to grow emotionally so that our intuition can develop and our hearts become softer.

Loving Our Enemies

The Master Warrior loves their enemies and recognizes that we are all humans with the same essence. We all have a being. Not only do we love our enemies, but we respect them and that is also a form of love. In returner, the love and respect we have for our enemies will help us grow stronger.

Dec 27, 2016

When working on our wellness goals, it's easy to forget we all have both an inner coach and an critic inside our mind. The inner coach encourages us to do our best, while the critic can shut us down- dissolving our state of flow.

"There's a voice inside of all of us that tells us to accomplish what we desire and never quit. This is our inner coach. This is a voice that tells us to believe in ourselves." - Jeff Grant

Fortunately, we have the power to bring out the best inner coaches within us and soften our harshest inner critics.

On this episode of Wellness Force Radio, coach, mentor, writer, and ultra-endurance athlete, Jeff Grant of Hillseeker,  shares several hacks on how we can tap into our mind and emotions to become better athletes and more productive.

Our emotions can easily distract us, but with the right mind tools, we can learn to use those emotions to our advantage.

Owning Your State of Flow

"In positive psychology, flow is the mental state of operation in which a person who is performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment during the process of the activity.” - Jeff Grant

Being in the mental state of flow means that we are both amazed and inspired to be our your best. It's the natural high we feel when we're on a mission or have completed a goal such as completing a great work out, finishing a race, or finalizing a project at work.

Experiencing a state of flow means that we are present in the moment.

It can be difficult to get into a state of flow, but there are several tools that we can use to help cultivate more flow into our lives. Once we understand what helps us get into the state of flow, we can jump right into it when we want or need it in our lives.

When Jeff finds flow during a run or through music, he tries to transfer it to another part of his life or within his work as a coach and author.

The Four Stages of Flow

To find flow and stay within it, there are four steps: Struggle, Release, Flow, Recover.

1) Struggle

To begin our state of flow, we need to struggle on purpose. We can do this by taking ourselves out of our comfort zone and placing ourselves in an unfamiliar place, situation, or thought.

Once we have struggled, we can release.

2) Release

We can release ourselves from our struggle by finding something to laugh at or something that distracts us from it.

3) Flow

This state of release places us in a state of natural flow and euphoria. When we're in the state of flow, we can find immense happiness and feel like anything is possible to achieve.

4) Recovery

Once we're in the state of flow, we never want to let go of it again. We think that we always need to have this euphoric sensation 24/7, but recovery is part of the process as well. Recovery is important because it allows us to connect each cycle of flow.

A lot of us are looking for our next great achievement: a place on the podium, a best time, or a new goal accomplished. But if we're just focusing on pushing ourselves to our limits with new goals, we might push ourselves too far, too fast.

By focusing on recovering, we're give ourselves permission to take time off and not push ourselves to do more than we can handle.

With goals and technology, we focus so much on the quantitative numbers that we forget that qualitative facts are just as important to our health and wellness.

Flow isn't just applied to athletic performance, but to life performance and job performance as well. The 4 Stages of Flow can truly be applied to anything that we want.

Discover Your Best Inner Coach

To start discovering and using your inner coach to your advantage, think of the coaches or teachers that were or are still part of your life today. They most likely all have different voices and different teaching methods from giving cues and instructions to building confidence or being aggressive with a military manner.

What did coaches or teachers do in the past do to help you? What were their voices like in different scenarios?

If you can identify the inner coach voices in your mind, then you can learn how to build the best inner coach to help you stay focused and accomplish your goals.

So, how do we begin to tap into that inner coach voice? Think again about different coaches and their styles of coaching. On this episode, Jeff shares 5 different coaching styles:

  1. Bouncer
  2. Teacher
  3. Guide
  4. Muse
  5. Motivator

What's the Purpose of the Bouncer and Muse Coaches?

"The inner critic loves it when we worry about what other people think. It loves it when we highlight our fears. It has a strong dislike of the flow state." -Jeff Grant

The inner bouncer coach tells our inner critic to be quiet. Visualize a bouncer at a club who doesn't let others inside and acts as a bodyguard.

Disarm your inner critic by giving your inner bouncer coach one new thought to help redirect your thinking.

Our inner muse coach is the voice that reminds us to play and be creative. Jeff likes to tap into his inner muse by leaving the running trail and taking a different path. When he's listening to his muse coach, he may skip and jump around or go down on a slide at a playground.

When we're so focused on quantitative results, sometimes we need to take a break and just play during our workouts to get into our state of flow.

Playing can help snap us out of our stressful thoughts and help us experience a new state of flow.

Put Your Inner Coach to Use

You can practice listening to your inner coach by practicing meditation. Focus on what the voices sound like and pay attention to how they motivate you.

As you meditate, concentrate on what your inner coach is telling you to do. Be sure to take your time and listen to each of the 5 inner coaches to create the perfect one. You may need a different inner coach for different moments and situations.

Tap Into Your Performance With Emotions

What emotions do you experience during a race or workout? Do you ever feel anger, joy, love, jealousy?

We can face many emotions while we're exercising, but we don't tend to intentionally put ourselves into a state of emotion to see what positive and negative results may happen.

Jeff likes to put emotions to the test by having his students focus on different emotions during a workout to discover what impact they have on them. With amazing results, Jeff discovered that different emotions can either improve or hinder our performance.

By purposely tapping into emotions during a run, we can become aware of which ones serve us better.

"All you have is what's going on in front of you right now. Worrying about the future is only going to cause anxiety and bring up fears. It's only going to cause you to live in a time that's not present." - Justin Stenstrom

Our past may haunt us and our future may scare us, but we must remember that what we have today is the present. When we focus on being in the present and what is happening now, we can move beyond our anxiety.

Having once spent years fight depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, Justin Stenstrom is now a nationally acclaimed life coach, author, entrepreneur, and speaker. On this week's episode, Justin opens up and shares his experience about how he ended his panic attacks in order to grow to the person that he is today.

Give yourself the self-care and love that you deserve by learning about how you can beat your own anxiety, build confidence, and harness the power of small wins.

Beat Your Own Anxiety in 3 Steps

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” -  Franklin D. Roosevelt

Even though Justin suffered panic attacks for years, he realized that they were truly a gift to help motivate himself to grow and become the person that he is today.

Determined to find a solution to end his panic attacks and irrational thinking, Justin was able to beat his own anxiety in 3 simple steps by completely shifting his mindset and the way he viewed his panic attacks.

1) Observe your thoughts and emotions

When you first feel a panic attack coming on, it's natural to want to run away from it. However, struggling with your anxiety will just make it worse for you. Rather than fighting back, simply do nothing and just observe what is happening in your mind and with your emotions.

2) Welcome the panic attack

The next step is to let the panic in and have a dialogue with it in your head. Freely welcome these thoughts of anxiety and any other thoughts and emotions.

3) Call out your anxiety and fears

Call them out and ask for more. Expose all your fears, anxiety, and concerns to come out into the open. This empowering, counter-intuitive step will help your negative thoughts, feelings, and sensations go away.

The Right Nutrition to Calm Your Mind

Calming our minds can begin my focusing on our own nutrition. Justin recommends following a healthy diet and taking supplements as needed. For example, his daily food intake often includes:

  • Fish
  • Fish oil
  • Fruit
    • Apples, Bananas
  • Complex carbs
    • Broccoli, Kale
  • Protein
    • Chicken, lean steak
  • Suggested supplements
    • Magnesium, Niacin, Niacinamide, B complex, ashwagandha, valieran root

Build Confidence & Challenge Yourself

"Do one thing each day that scares you." - Eleanor Roosevelt

We are all born with confidence, we might just not realize it depending on the environment that we are in situated in.

When we're in a comfortable environment, it's easy to be ourselves. When we're in an unfamiliar territory, it can be terrify and we feel closed to those that are around us.

You don't have to gain confidence overnight. Build yourself up overtime with little winds. In a social situation, you can start small by saying "hi" to people that you see during a walk or start up small conversations with others-your mailman, cashier, etc.

Keep track of your progress and create new challenges for yourself each week. Before you know it, all of these little winds will build up into one big wind and you will feel confident to talk to anyone.

Embrace New Situations

To help Justin get over his social fears and anxiety, he built up his self-esteem by attending a dance class with all females. It was terrify and he was always anxious before the class.

However, by the end of the class, he felt more empowered than ever before. Why? Because by getting out of his comfort zone, he was able to experience a scary situation and realize that it actually was not as bad as he thought it was.

Putting yourself in different situations can help you realize that anything is possible and there's really nothing to fear.

Tap Into Your Subconsciousness with Self Hypnosis

One way to get over fears and phobias is to use self-hypnosis and tap into the subconscious mind. This technique helps to train your mind to replace negative thoughts and emotions with positive emotions.

Some Hypnotherapists that Justin knows and recommends include:

"Faith is like a muscle. It's similar to going out for a run- if you don't do it normally run, you're going to sweat and it's not going to be comfortable. If you step into having faith when you don't know what the end is going to be, then that's something you can build every single day and you can rely on it." - Bridgette Mayer

This show is for everyone who believes that their past determines their future.

How did a young girl who came through the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DYFS) system and foster care end up in the art world with a multi-million dollar gallery and consulting business? Through the kindness of strangers, fierce determination, and a survivor’s sheer will, Bridgette Mayer’s is a success story for the ages. In her inspirational memoir of gross neglect, violent abuse, and ultimately redemption, she shares her journey from the projects of Jersey City to eventually becoming one of Philadelphia’s most celebrated gallery owners.

By following her heart and passion for art, Mayer’s interests evolved from a means of escape into her salvation and her security. She used her inherent self-assurance, natural curiosity, and scrapper work ethic to overcome the damage inflicted on her as a child and create a harmonious, rewarding, and charitable life — for herself and the artists she represents.

Rising Above Your Circumstances

"Anger is a much more proactive emotion than despair. I've used anger and fear to propel me forward. I've learned how to use both pretty well at this point. I've used such experiences to make me a better." - Bridgette Mayer

Bridgette's memoir, The Art Cure : A Memoir of Abuse & Fortune (published by Little Lion press in September 2016), is for anyone who aspires to a career in the arts and who has been told it’s too difficult or impractical to pursue. With bravery and tenacity, anyone can achieve the life of their dreams, no matter how out of reach it may seem. Mayer offers readers a bridge to color and a lifeline of hope for the future.

After suffering an abusive childhood that landed her in foster care homes and on the streets, starving and beat up, Bridgette was adopted by a wonderful family at the age of nine and began her life transformation.

Her early and challenging experiences gave her a tenacity of spirit, unbreakable creativity and a desire to make her mark in the art world. Now a successful art dealer, curator, art adviser, author and entrepreneur, Bridgette Mayer has spent decades cultivating her passion for art, artists, the clients she advises and finding her way to the top of the art world.

Creating The New Story

"I had a moment of frustration and I said to myself, 'The next 10 things that I'm asked to do, I'm just going to say 'yes' to them and figure it out.' The next day, I got a call from CNN to be on Anderson Cooper's show, 'On the Rise.' " - Bridgette Mayer

Bridgette's background of struggle and overcoming obstacles lead to her current success and spurred her to write, “The Art Cure: A Memoir of Abuse & Fortune.”

Her passion for artists and managing them to the highest level as well as working with top collectors from around the world has guided her business the past seventeen years. Bridgette's expertise encompasses a whole approach to art collecting, creating authentic environments both public and private with art.

Her mission is to continue to inspire those around her and especially artists, women and entrepreneurs to live the life they dream even in the face of insurmountable obstacles.

Bridgette Mayer Gallery

The Bridgette Mayer Gallery has been featured on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 as a small business “On The Rise” and was recognized as a recommended Philadelphia arts destination in The New York Times Magazine. In 2013, Mayer was named one of the top 500 Galleries in the world by Boulin ArtInfo, and was also featured in the Tory Burch Foundation’s “Women To Watch” series.

Mayer has been a featured speaker on many panels in the Philadelphia area and has guest lectured at a number of Universities, where her talks focus on how emerging artists can promote their work and sustain a career in the arts.  A graduate of Bucknell University, Mayer was an active member of the University’s Arts Board for several years.  She is currently a board member of the Arts & Business Council, Philadelphia, PA & Vox Vopuli, Philadelphia, PA.

About Bridgette Mayer

For the past sixteen years Bridgette Mayer has been running a top contemporary art gallery in Philadelphia and helping her clients and the artists she serves improve the quality of their life through art. Growing up in an abusive home in the projects of Jersey City and filtered through the foster care system until she was nine years old, Bridgette was finally adopted by a wonderful family. If you had seen the conditions she grew up in, you would not even believe it that someone could come from there and get to where she is now.

Bridgette mayer the art cure rising above your circumstances wellness force radio

She had to learn how to read and get started living a life that was no longer centered around the drugs, alcohol and physical abuse. Over the years she has come through many challenges and worked for her dream of being a top arts professional in the gallery industry. For her entire life, Bridgette had big dreams, and has dreamed the dreams that others said would not be possible.

Bridgette is living proof and this is not a Hollywood movie. She literally came from the other side of the tracks and built a life of abundance for herself.

From Bridgette:

"That is why I wanted to write a book to share my story with you. Part memoir and part how I got my start in the art world, this book is for anybody who might need inspiration or might want to know how somebody like myself who came from nothing, was able to build a multi-million dollar business in the art world. You see, It is possible. I hope you will share my journey and see what is possible for you!"

"Knowing without doing is the same thing as not knowing. What matters is if the knowledge that you have will give you an effective health practice for the long term." - Dan Pardi

There is power in knowledge and with the right health and wellness information, we can make the right decisions in accordance with our own needs.

This week, entrepreneur, researcher, and developer of Loop Model to Sustain Health Behaviors, Dan Pardi, explains Self Determination Theory and motivation, the human connection, and his latest project, humanOS to help us find the best health information.

Find The Health You're Looking For

"You have more control over your health than anyone else." -  Dan Pardi

There are many sources out there that claim that they have the answer to all of your health problems, but they truly don't. These novelty, quick fix methods, products, and services may look appealing, but they aren't sustainable for long-term health results.

To find the best help for your health needs, you first have to clarify your own health problems. Rather than trend hopping by focusing on what you just read in the latest health magazine about a new diet, research and find out for yourself what your body needs.

It can be so confusing with so much information out there in books, magazines, and the internet. However, sources like humansOS, that Dan and his team are putting together, help us find the best, most credible sources of information.

Truth vs. Fiction For Health Research

In a recent interview on humanOS radio with Dr. David Katz of Yale, Dan mentioned:

“As well-intentioned as someone might be, I frequently find myself getting  frustrated, not when somebody’s passionate and wrong about an issue,  but when people can be overly confident and dismissive of  mainstream medicine’s consensus in favor of their own opinion which can often associate with their own financial reward.”

Once you have a proper perspective and mindset, you make good decisions for yourself. It's better late than never to embrace your responsibility to find the best method and motivation for you stay true to yourself and progress your health journey.

One challenge we all face today is the fight against the modern lifestyle. We used to be hunters and gathers, but today we're consuming high processed foods and sitting around too much at home.

An unhealthy lifestyle doesn't only lead to chronic disease, but can impair our daily performance and relationships as well.

All the technology in the world won't help you, but you can use the power of technology to fight back against misinformed studies to do your own research.

Begin Your Own Research

To ensure that you are finding the best information out there, look closely at who this researcher is and what their study is all about.

  • Who are they associated with?
  • Do they declare their method?
  • Do they offer a too good to be true solution?

If this source appears to provide a quick fix, be careful.

OR

  • Do they have a realistic perspective?
  • Does their method clearly explain how it will help?
  • Is their research comprehensive?
  • Does their campaign have an overall, large framework.

Once you've found a legitimate piece of information on health, how can you incorporate it into your daily life?

  1. Try to clarify the problem that you're trying to solve.
  2. Find the right ideas that can help you.
  3. Understand those ideas deeply.
  4. Turn those into health and wellness skills.
  5. Maintain those health skills for life with good information.

Human Motivation

"Our job isn’t to motivate other people, it’s about creating the condition in which people can motivate themselves.” - Dan Pardi

Self Determination Theory - (SDT) is a theory of motivation. It is concerned with supporting our natural or intrinsic tendencies to behave in effective and healthy ways. SDT has been researched and practiced by a network of researchers around the world. The theory aims to understand motivation by looking at the core categories of human needs:
  1. Physical, which is things like thirst, and hunger, and sex.
  2. Psychological, which is the desire to be competent in anything but particularly things that are important.
  3. Autonomy, which speaks to the notion that we like to have freedom to determine our own path.
  4. Social needs, which is the sense of belonging to a group, recognition from others, and even the sense of power in your own life.

Controlled vs Autonomous Motivation

SDT is a behavior model that tries to understand what human motivation is. Motivation has many different categories that can be placed into two different groups: Controlled Motivation and Autonomous Motivation.

Controlled Motivation

Controlled motivation is caused by external rewards such as a prize for accomplishing a goal. But you can also be punished by having something taken away from you if you don't complete the goal or feel guilty for not accomplishing it.

Autonomous Motivation

Autonomous motivation is when a person is compelled to do something because the activity takes on some personal importance or it becomes a part of the person's belief system and it even becomes part of the person's identity.

Your not motivated by external rewards, but you do something because it's a part of your identity and who you are as a person.

Dan gave a great example that someone who has controlled motivation runs for the physical reward. However, a person who has autonomous motivation will run in the rain despite all rational thinking because exercise no matter what is part of who they are.

Using humanOS to Your Advantage

As a mission, humanOS helps people master their health.
Understanding that this is necessary is actually critical to one's success of long-term help.

Why?

Because all the technology in the world won't be healthy for you. The technology can't just be available, you have to pick it up and use it and you have to use it the right way. HumanOS helps you benefit from the worlds best health technology and health information.

How did you make humanOS so clear and easy to use?

  • Explain why something is really worth your attention compared to something you shouldn't really pay attention to.
  • Some untested therapies claim to have the ultimate answer for everything, but they're not validated.
  • Having mindfulness or awareness about health can put you in a better position.
  • If more people are aware of their own health and what works and what doesn't, we'll become a healthier community overall.

Listen As Dan Uncovers

  • Why clarifying the exact health problem is missed by more than half of people seeking change
  • Novelty seeking vs. taking a deeper dive into what you know to be helpful
  • How do we get to the deeper understanding to creating skills for sustainable change
  • How to not get lost in the research and data for your health
  • Why Dan became frustrated by the ocean of misleading health information online and decided to do the academic work to create a trusted source based on science: humanOS.
  • Understanding the human behavior model
  • Why Dan was inspired from his father's early death from lifestyle
  • Dan's Ancestral Health Symposium Talk
  • Self Determination Theory
  • Internal motivation, autonomy, vs. external motivation, reward, punishment, validation
  • How to leverage different types of motivations for sustainable health change
  • Learning for efficacy vs learning for recognition
  • How does something go from interesting idea that you recognize to something that has a direct impact on your blood work?

"How you perceive, interrupt, and how you experience reality is unique to you like your thumb print. That neurologically you are an endangered species." - Bonnie Kelly

Today, certified life coach & personal development expert, Bonnie Kelly, tells her story have how she overcame an astonishing amount of hurt and betrayal to become the strong woman, coach, speaker, and author on a mission to help 100 million people end needless suffering.

In just one year, we've listened to so many incredible stories about how powerful the subconscious mind is, and today we have a powerful one that sits atop the collective.

One way to Bonnie was able to let go of her past to move on with a new life was by reprogramming negative thoughts to create a new, truthful story and forgiving her past.

Our Subconscious Software

"Feelings are the guards that stand watch over the belief ensuring it will not escape. For many of us, childhood felt more like an episode of Survivor than Leave it to Beaver." - Bonnie Kelly

Our brain is similar to a computer. We have a monitor that connects to the tower to transmit all of the necessary information to function and learn. Inside the computer, we have software that stores and saves all of our memories in the history file.

Our software is our subconscious mind which controls all of our thinking and can also create either positive, true thoughts or negative, false thoughts in our mind as far as:

  • Who we think we are
  • How we show up in the world
  • How we fit in the world

Negative Core Beliefs

Throughout life, we collect negative experiences and traumas. Even as children, any unintentional hardship that we experience becomes  part of our negative core beliefs.

These experiences are like viruses being installed in our brains. We end up accepting harmful events and remember them in our subconscious. Once these negative thoughts become part of our every day thinking, it's hard to change them.

If we don't challenge our negative core beliefs, they become part of who we are and we tell ourselves false ideas such as:

  • We're not lovable.
  • We don't matter.
  • We're not good enough.

Stop The Cycle of Negative Thinking

We attract ourselves to feelings or environments that are familiar to us. Because of this, we always we end up in experiences at re-validate any negative thoughts that we have about ourselves.

Bonnie experienced a constant cycle of  bad relationships because that was what she was drawn to. Her negative core belief that she is not lovable attracted her to people and situations and confirmed that thought.

She's realized that if we don't recognize the continuous cycle of negative thinking, we will continue to believe that our NCB's are true.

We have to realize that this is how the brain is working against us.

If we disconnect ourselves from the negative thinking and stop reinforcing a new habit from a previous negative thought for 3 days, we can change ourselves emotionally. New, positive connections can reshape you into a new form of being.

Put into daily practice, this can help us get out of long-term depression. However, if we reinforce the negative thoughts again, then we go back to our old way of thinking.

Learning to Forgive and Let Go

"Forgiveness isn't about the other person. It's about us. It's about letting go of the things that have happened because forgiveness is a gift you give to yourself."-Tony Robbins

It takes a tremendous effort to discover the root cause of our subconscious. Once we've discovered it, we need to focus on changing it through techniques on a regular basis. One method that Bonnie suggests is to practice forgiveness and retell your true story.

Not Your Fault, But Your Responsibility

The first stop on the process of healing the negative subconscious mind is to realize that things that have happened to you were not your fault and you were the victim.

The words that people have said to you or the actions they have done were not your fault. Therefore these experiences that have created NCB in your mind don't actually have any true meaning that validates the person that you are.

The things that have happened to you are not your fault and you became the victim. By giving that story power, your giving away your freedom.

Forgiveness takes time and strength, but it will be your gateway of letting go of any wrongdoing that has been done to you. Forgiving others will help you transform you story and rewrite it so that you feel empowered once again and find your true core.

Forgiveness is a practice and a choice that you have to do over and over to heal.

Unwilling to forgive will consume you and keep you stuck with all of your feelings of anger and resentment towards others and what has happened to you.

No one is gong to save you and you have to become your own hero.
