Today we are live with Intelliskin at "Rock Stock 2017" with Greg van den Dries & Steven Capobianco, Founders of RockTape, as they explain how kinesiology tape and their various cutting edge tools are helping us increase our physical and emotional intelligence as we begin to move and fell better.

Their elastic therapeutic tape and flagship product, RockTape, recoils in when applied to the skin and creates a biomechanical lifting effect which pulls the skin away from the underlying tissue. This lifting effect from the tape has 2 main functions. It stimulates skin receptors that communicate with the brain and reduces pain and increases your body awareness. Also, fluid dynamics are improved as skin is pulled away from the tissue to improve blood flow and swelling.

About Greg van den Dries

greg van den dries RockTape Wellness Force Radio Interview

Greg loves of running, cycling and swimming have contributed to a variety of minor sports injuries, and one of those injuries required physical therapy. The PT treated him and he finished the session by applying some tape to his leg.

When he asked if this was the same tape he had seen during the Olympics, the answer was yes.

Greg was skeptical about the tape, but after a week his injury was healing nicely and he also noticed that his legs felt pretty good after a long ride. He started doing more research on the tape’s effects and that’s when he discovered that the tape can be used to enhance performance. (Going stronger, longer…)

After trying the tape on friends and family with good results, he got excited and talked to a number of companies about buying and selling the tape. The response Greg got was frankly, crazy: no one wanted to sell him tape unless he became “certified” in their specific taping methods. It was their way of making the tape more exclusive and expensive. He decided there had to be a better way to get this great product into the hands of those who needed it, so Greg located a source, modified the formula and formed RockTape.

The health and wellness world can be a very confusing place at times, especially when it comes to the rise of self-proclaimed health experts who may not always have your best health and wellness in mind.

Power Quotes From The Show

"Everyone's truth and exploration of life is on a different path. You must understand yourself and your own truth by seeking the things that will build you up from the inside out." - Thaddeus Owen

"I understood from a young age that having a powerful body lead to a more powerful and clear mind and how much eating and movement had to do with how we show up in the world." - Thaddeus Owen

"I can't work in a job that doesn't provide some kind of benefit to humanity, and that's why founded PrimalHacker." - Thaddeus Owen

"We see people dead on gurneys all the time that have six pack abs, have run marathons, and might look amazing; outwardly there were Adonis's is but inwardly they were not healthy. To me, real wellness comes from the inside. How comfortable do you feel in your own skin? How excited are you about life and exploring all the possibilities around you? Wellness to me is being curious, being excited to get up every day, and being comfortable with who you are from the inside out." - Thaddeus Owen

"A lot of people want to get healthy and well quickly so they tend to copy someone else who has had biohacking success, but they don't actually know for themselves why they're doing it." - Thaddeus Owen

There is increasing concern about the types of problems that might be caused by our constant exposure to blue light, from computers and televisions and other modern technology.

By cutting out the blue light, Thaddeus Owen says he sleeps much better and reduces potential problems with vision or cancers.

Thaddeus is a sustainability manager, a national leader in developing a zero-waste philosophy within industry and turning sustainable ideas into reality. Along the way, he has become a passionate advocate for responsible use of technology and our daily encounters with blue light. He wears sunglasses indoors and at night, and thinks the rest of us should too.

About Thaddeus Owen

the truth about biohacking thaddeus owen wellness force radio

Thaddeus began his journey outdoors, camping and fishing as a boy in the Adirondacks and Central NY forests. After a decade spent developing pharmaceutical products, he just couldn’t face another day adding terrible ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and numerous red dyes into children’s medicine. He shifted gears and engineered a successful work from home assignment following Tim Ferriss’s 4 Hour Workweek. From there, he was able to find a way to incorporate more movement, nature and sunshine into his work environment.

After learning about biohacking from the man who coined the term, Dave Asprey, Thaddeus healed his own anxiety, lowered his blood pressure and fixed his sleeplessness using biohacking, PrimalHacking and Qigong. He spends his free time experimenting on himself in hopes of helping others on their journey. He writes about his experiments on PrimalHacker.com. He also spends time with his two boys learning martial arts, shooting arrows at targets and hiking.

Thaddeus is a certified Bulletproof Coach from the first ever class of coaches, holds a personal training certification, nutrition certification, Master’s degree in Holistic Nutrition and studied Chemical Engineering a long time ago.

Chris teaches and practices functional medicine, a personalized approach to health care that recognizes the biological uniqueness of each patient. In contrast to conventional care, which is almost entirely focused on suppressing symptoms, functional medicine eliminates symptoms by addressing the underlying cause of a problem. It is an evidence-based field of health care that views the body as an interconnected whole, and recognizes the importance of these connections in health and disease.

True healing calls for an integrated approach to our physical, mental, and emotional wellness. - Dr. Roger Mignosa

From head to toe, we are all highly connected and comprehensive human beings. The physical and mental aspects of our life affect each other in powerful ways and the seemingly separate systems of the body are actually heavily interrelated.

Knowing that these different aspects of our well-being all correlate, why is it that so many health care professionals still operate with a reductionist mentality, focus on localized symptoms, and fail to appreciate and examine the entire chain of events that could help lead to the real root cause of our issues?

Today we are live at RockTapes's "Rock Stock 2017" with Dr. Roger Mignosa, Osteopath, Ironman Triathlete, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist, as he explains how we can recover and heal the body and mind through holistic and integrated wellness. His approach to health care puts the patient at the center and addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that affect a person’s health.

"No one cares what letters are behind your name, they care if you can help them with their problem." - Dr. Roger Mignosa

"We are connected and comprehensive human being and reductionist thinking is keeping us from discovering the deeper root of our issues. " - Dr. Roger Mignosa

Academy of Integrative Pain Management

Roger Mignosa Academy of Integrative Pain Management

MISSION: To Improve the Lives of People With Pain by Advancing a Person-centered, Integrative Model of Pain Care Through Evidence-Guided Education, Credentialing, and Advocacy

For almost 30 years, we have been, and still are, the only national professional organization dedicated to advancing the integrative pain care approaches that now define “best practice” in the National Pain Strategy published by NIH.

We define integrative pain management as a model of care that is patient-centered; considers the whole person; encourages healthful lifestyle changes as part of the first line of treatment to restore wellness; is evidence-based and brings together all appropriate therapeutic approaches and clinicians to reduce pain and achieve optimal health and healing; and encourages a team approach.

Roger Mignosa Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine

The Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine is a society and global community of professionals and health seekers. AIHM provides innovative education, training, leadership, interprofessional collaboration, research, and advocacy that embraces all global healing traditions, to promote the creation of health and the delivery of evidence-informed comprehensive, affordable, sustainable person-centered care.

The Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM) emerged in 2013 as a solution to our growing health care crisis. The formation of the AIHM is a bold response to a call to action for change — to transform the way we think about health and health care. The Academy is home to a broadening international community of healthcare practitioners, health seekers, and advocates connected by a shared holistic philosophy of person-centered care. The AIHM community recognizes the link between our health and the state of the planet and deeply considers the social determinants of health and the quality of our relationships to ourselves and one another.

One irony of the integrative health care movement is that while there is an increasing abundance of integrative practitioners, they often operate separately from one another. Interprofessional communication, collaboration, education and team-based care are at the heart of the AIHM’s mission as we unite the many voices in integrative health and medicine to transform health care together.

About Dr. Roger Mignosa

Roger Mignosa

Dr. Mignosa had the opportunity to transform his own experience with injuries and pain through an integrative approach to healing. During his teenage years, he was an avid athlete who battled constant injuries. Eventually, a surgeon told him that he should quit running. At the age of 16, Dr. Mignosa rejected this opinion and questioned the mindset of how medicine treats disorders of structure and function. Instead, he embraced a mindset of building health and focused on educating himself on health and healing.

In his own rehabilitation efforts, Dr. Mignosa employed exercise physiology, nutrition and positive psychology. Due to the determination to heal, he returned to running on the Cross Country team in high school, joined the swim team in college, and earned status as an All-American Triathlete and Ironman in graduate school. It was these events that led Dr. Mignosa on the path to medical school and a career in medicine.

Dr. Mignosa was a Regent Scholar at the University of California, Irvine, where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry. He became an Ambassadorial Scholar for Rotary International and was awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Queensland, Australia where he earned a graduate degree in Clinical Exercise Science. Upon returning to Orange County, he led exercise physiology programs at hospitals and wellness centers. He attended medical school at Touro University California where he became a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Under a grant from the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP), Dr. Mignosa conducted research at Stanford University on quality of life with severe physical trauma. Dr. Mignosa completed residency training at the University of California, Los Angeles with a specialty in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R).

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Mignosa greatly values medical education. While Dr. Mignosa was still in medical school, he began lecturing at the University of Arizona, School of Medicine, Center for Integrative Medicine and has been doing so since 2011. He continues to lecture at medical schools, present at national and international medical conferences, and serve as a consultant to medical professionals.

Dr. Mignosa lives an active lifestyle as he runs, swims, cycles, and surfs and implements his own practices of postural correction, foundation training, and body mechanics. He seeks to help people who struggle with pain and love to move. Dr. Mignosa is passionate about advancing the field of medicine towards sustainable practices that are safe, affordable and effective.

About Operation Enduring Warrior

Operation Enduring Warrior is a 100% volunteer organization composed of current and former members of the military, family members, and patriotic citizens who wish to give back to our nation’s wounded veterans.

The team members who don the mask are members of the Masked Athlete Team (MAT).  These members have gone through a rigorous selection process known as Warrior INDOC. This in-depth process is composed of several phases of personal, professional and physical analysis, fundraising abilities, and teamwork assessment. The final phase is a 48-hour physical and mental endurance component during which candidates complete a series of challenges under the close supervision of selected team members. Candidates who successfully complete this stage may then be invited to join the ranks of the Team. Completion rate from start to finish is often times less than 20%.

We also rely heavily on our OEW Community Ambassadors (OCAs). These are selfless men and women who have chosen to take up the banner of our cause to honor, empower and motivate wounded veterans.  They accomplish this by fundraising on behalf of the team, arranging social events, and participating in a wide variety of athletic events in our branded gear (gas masks not allowed). Often these athletes will run alongside the MAT at events. The OCA members are invaluable to the success of our mission.

About Jonathan Lopez

Jonathan Lopez of Operation Enduring Warrior

Previous to 2000, Jonathan was a highly-motivated infantry soldier on a successful career trajectory. He had completed Airborne training, the Ranger Indoctrination program and trained abroad with the Belgium Commandos. He deployed with the first infantry division and had just attended Special Forces Assessment and Selection – when the universe decided it had other plans for him.

While he does not have much in the way of actual memory of the accident itself, he was told that he had been hit by a drunk driver while on his motorcycle. He has a vague memory of laying on the pavement, a helicopter, doctors speaking in German desperately working on him and the plane ride leading to his arrival at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC. He was told he had suffered multiple injuries, including the loss and subsequent amputation of his left arm. Jonathan was subjected to many surgeries the first couple of months to replace his tibia and femur with titanium rods and multiple bone grafts. The loss of his arm was overshadowed by the overwhelming concern of never being able to walk again.

Jonathan Lopez was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 2001 following the amputation of his left arm. But having one arm hasn't stopped Lopez from competing in Spartan races and even climbing a 30-foot rope.

With the help of Operation Enduring Warrior, a veterans charity that helps "facilitate the physical, mental and emotional rehabilitation of our nation's wounded service," Lopez has been able to participate in Spartan races, even in spite of his disability.

About Earl Granville

Earl Granville Jonathan Lopez of Operation Enduring Warrior

A nine-year veteran of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as an infantryman, Granville served in support of Operation Joint Forge in Bosnia, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

In the summer of 2008, while on patrol in Zormat, Afghanistan, his vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb, resulting in the amputation of his left leg through his knee. His comrades, Specialist Derek Holland, of Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, and Major Scott Haggerty, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, were killed in action.

In December 2010, Granville suffered the loss of his twin brother, Staff Sergeant Joseph Granville, who took his own life. Today, Granville speaks publicly about the importance of finding professional help when coping with mental distress, particularly for members of the military who have served in combat.

In addition to speaking engagements, Granville competes in adaptive sports, including monoski, sled hockey and in GoRuck Endurance Challenges and Spartan Races. He has competed in numerous marathons across the county on a hand bicycle, including the Marine Corps Marathon and races in Boston, Detroit, Chicago and New York. He ran two half marathons alongside Operation Enduring Warrior is a finisher of the 2016 Bataan Death Memorial March; and completed the Spartan Agoge, a 60-hour endurance event.

He is a team member of Operation Enduring Warrior, a non-profit organization managed by veterans, and he is the lead ambassador of Oscar Mike, an American-made apparel company founded by veterans.

ABOUT TIM BROWN

IntelliSkin inventor, Dr. Tim Brown, grew to understand his future creation while working as the medical director on the ASP surf and AVP volleyball tours during the 1980’s. As an early innovator in functional taping, he developed a hybrid kinesiology technique known as SPRT (Specific Proprioceptive Response Taping). Used on everyone from Olympians to NFL players, the technique quickly became a staple in the athletic world as it allowed injured athletes to compete despite their injuries. Dr. Brown’s instinctive techniques got athletes asking for taping remedies so often, that he needed something that could do the job when he wasn’t there. Many late nights of trial and error using remnants of old wetsuits and rash guards, he devised a wearable technology that mimicked his taping technique. Dr. Brown’s goal was to take what he had learned in designing and come up with a comfortable, Smart Compression shirt that would clinically improve posture and spinal alignment for everyone, whether you’re an elite athlete or a weekend warrior. Dr. Brown’s ultimate goal is to help everybody to look better, feel better and perform better. We continue to pursue that goal every day.

But if we sharpen the intuitive sword and begin to explore these misguided parts of our perception, we will reduce internal suffering and create a new reality filled with passion and possibility.

About Paleovalley

The story of Paleovalley is a love story. Autumn and Chas Smith, co-founders, met in 2007, fell in love, and married on the magical Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, CA. This year they were blessed with an amazing baby boy, Maverick.

Autumn suffered acute digestive issues since she was a teenager and numerous experts failed to offer solutions that worked. Very concerned, Chas took matters into his own hands. His extensive research lead him to the paleo diet.

Together they implemented its principles for 30 days (eliminated refined foods, shopped at local farmers’ market, ate fresh organic fruits and vegetables, grass fed meats and wild seafood) and by the end, Autumn's IBS was completely resolved. Autumn was so inspired that she quit her job as a personal trainer at the Tracy Anderson Method, and earned a master’s degree in holistic nutrition.

Though they originally focused on disseminating information, they soon realized that there simply weren’t many truly healthy food products on the market. Many products claimed and even appeared to be to be healthy, using all the buzzwords such as gluten free, soy free, dairy free, natural and more but they were also nutrient free; free of the minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants that promote thriving health.

Realizing that they had an important job to do, Autumn and Chas joined forces with Chas' brother Matt and a good friend, Matthew, and launched Paleovalley with the belief that everything you eat and every added ingredient is an opportunity to either detract from your health or improve it.

Their mission is to create products that live up to their own strict standards and always prioritize health over profit. Paleovalley creates products with integrity that are free from problematic ingredients and teeming with ingredients that promote vibrant health.

They strive to inspire people to view every dietary choices for what it really is: a profound opportunity to love and care for oneself. Paleovalley products are a labor of love, and their only hope is that they help your family feel as vibrant as theirs.

About Autumn Smith

Autumn Smith PaleoValley

Autumn Smith has been a health enthusiast her entire life. She began her academic career with a Bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in dance from the University of Montana. Upon graduation, Autumn danced professionally while becoming a certified yoga instructor. Hoping to combine her love of dance with her passion for health, Autumn became a celebrity fitness trainer with Tracy Anderson, most notably completing a world tour with Jennifer Lopez.

While working as a fitness trainer, Autumn could see that exercise alone was not enough for many of her clients to achieve the radiant health they worked so hard to achieve. Meanwhile, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and anxiety continued to plague her personal health, starting in adolescence. These frustrations further ignited her passion and interest in the study of holistic nutrition. Through self-guided research, she and her husband, Chas, healed her IBS with the paleo diet. She then studied with the Institute for the Psychology of Eating to become a Certified Eating Psychology Coach and Hawthorn University where she obtained a Masters in Holistic Nutrition. In 2013, she founded Paleo valley with her husband and brother-in-law. Paleo valley’s mission is to disseminate excellent nutritional information and organic food products with 100 million people worldwide. Autumn's commitment to health reached new heights last year following the birth of their son, Maverick.

Sal Di Stefano and Adam Schafer from www.mindpupmedia.com chat with Josh Trent LIVE from Lake Tahoe during the Spartan World Championship 2017 event.

Sal Di Stefano

Sal was 14 years old when he touched his first weight and from that moment he was hooked. Growing up asthmatic, frequently sick and painfully skinny, Sal saw weightlifting as a way to change his body and his self-image. In the beginning, Sal’s body responded quickly to his training but then his gains slowed and then stopped altogether. Not one to give up easily, he began reading every muscle building publication he could get his hands on to find ways to bust through his plateau. He read Arnold’s Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding, Mentzer’s Heavy Duty, Kubrick’s Dinosaur Training, and every muscle magazine he could find; Weider’s Muscle and Fitness, Flex, Iron Man and even Muscle Media 2000. Each time he read about a new technique or methodology he would test it out in the gym. At age 18 his passion for the art and science of resistance training was so consuming that he decided to make it his profession and become a personal trainer. By 19 he was managing health clubs and by 22 he owned his own gym. After 17 years as a personal trainer he has dedicated himself to bringing science and TRUTH to the fitness industry. Check out Sal's Instagram page HERE.

Dr. Andy Galpin: "Unplugged"

Andy Galpin Unplugged

In the first quarter of 2016, Americans bought 19.7 million fitness wearables, an increase of 67 percent over the previous year. By 2020, the global market for fitness-focused apps and devices is expected to grow to $30 billion. This means that more than ever, we’re looking at our wrists not only to check the time, but also to see how much we’ve moved, monitor our heart rate, and see how we’re stacking up against yesterday’s tallies.

Our technology addiction has made us lose connection with what's going on around us. This is bad enough in the gym, but when we get outside, the constant checking of a tiny screen truly wreaks havoc, downgrading what should be a rich experience into yet another task we need to complete to meet our daily goals. And if we fall short, we feel inadequate. There’s also the issue of data inaccuracy, with many device makers now admitting that their gadgets provide only estimates. So why do we continue to obsess over data and treat it as gospel truth?

Unplugged provides a blueprint for using technology to meet your health and performance goals in a much smarter way. In addition to sharing the performance expertise of Brian Mackenzie and the scientific insight of Dr. Andy Galpin, Unplugged features exclusive stories and advice from elite athletes and world-renowned experts like Laird Hamilton, Tim Ferriss, Kai Lenny, Kelly Starrett, Steven Kotler, Erin Cafaro, Lenny Wiersma, Dr. Frank Merritt, and Brandon Rager.

About Andy Galpin

Andy Galpin Image

Andy is a tenured Professor in the Center for Sport Performance at CSU Fullerton. He was born and raised in beautiful Rochester, WA and is a die-hard Seahawks, Huskies, & Mariner fan. RIP Sonics. As a youth, Andy played every sport at his disposal, excelling at Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track & Field. While not playing, he worked at grocery stores, gas stations, hay fields, blueberry farms, and in the road construction business. It was during this time he discovered Strength & Conditioning.

Andy took his limited talents to Linfield College to join their Football team and pursue a degree in Exercise Science. While he experienced great success in both (2004 National Championship and 2x Captain and immediate inductee into the "All Ugly" Team), the true reward of this time was the meeting of lifelong friend (Doug Larson). The two fed each other's pursuit of knowledge of human performance and led them to attend the University of Memphis for the Masters degrees in Human Movement Sciences. A bit of luck and excellent faculty mentoring led Doug and Andy to meet Mike Bledsoe and the man formally known as "Barbell Buddha" Chris Moore - all of which later led to the creation of the #1 Health & Fitness Podcast in the world Barbell Shrugged. It also marked the start of Andy's competitive Weightlifting (culminating in his 7th Place finish in the 2007 National Championships), Mixed Martial Arts, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu careers.

Needing to know more about muscle, Andy spent 4 years studying the structure and function of human skeletal muscle at the single cell level, a feat which earned him a PhD in Human Bioenergetics in 2011. This also resulted in the friendship with frequent collaborator Dr. Jimmy Bagley and the ability to open up his own "Biochemistry and Molecular Exercise Physiology Laboratory" at CSU Fullerton.

Alwyn Cosgrove The New Rules of Lifting

Want to get more out of your workout and spend less time in the gym? Many guys devote so many hours to lifting weight yet end up with so little to show for it. In many cases the problem is simple: they aren't doing exercises based on the movements their bodies were designed to do. Six basic movements - the squat, deadlift, lunge, push, pull and twist - use all of the body's major muscles. And, more important, they use those muscles in coordinated action, the way they were designed to work.

The New Rules of Lifting, now in paperback and with more than one hundred photographs, gives you more than a year's worth of workouts based on these six basic movements. Whether you're a beginner, an experienced lifter looking for new challenges, or anything in between, you can mix and match the workouts to help you get bigger, stronger and leaner. In addition, the comprehensive nutritional information provided makes The New Rules of Lifting a complete guide to reaching all your goals. If you aren't using The New Rules of Lifting, you aren't getting the best possible results.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Episode

  • We have the power to break down limiting beliefs and change our behavior. Although it seems challenging, we can choose to focus on empowering thoughts which will lead to different actions. Doing this will awaken the parts of ourselves that we have forgotten and point our lives in the direction we desire.
  • Our happiness and fulfillment can't be conditional upon something in the future. When we rely on imagined future events to make us happy, this causes stress and disappointment in the present. But if we start to realize that everything we need is inside of us right now, we can enjoy each day and embrace our journey of self-discovery.
  • We have to practice turning down the voice of the inner critic. Being overly hard on ourselves is not an effective form of motivation and beating ourselves up will make the things we are going through that much harder to deal with.

Power Quotes From Christine Hassler

"Our outer experience is often a reflection of our inner reality." - Christine Hassler @ChristinHassler - http://bit.ly/2xS7gGt

"My job as a life coach is to help people identify whats in the way between where they are and where they want to be." - Christine Hassler

"There will always be that little kid inside of us. Part of our job as an adult is learning how to reparent that child." - Christine Hassler

"My primary responsibility is to evolve my own consciousness." - Christine Hassler

"It's a grand illusion that we're alone and separate. It's been forgotten that we're completely connected to source and to each other." - Christine Hassler

"Our outer experience is always a reflection of our inner reality." - Christine Hassler

"It's resisting our emotions that creates our anxiety." - Christine Hassler

"I like being a human detective and helping people put the pieces of their life together." - Christine Hassler

Christine's Book: "Expectation Hangover"

The Expectation Hangover Christine Hassler

When our expectations are met and things go according to plan, we feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. Risking little, we feel safe, in control, and on-track. But when life throws us a curveball or does not live up to our expectations, we end up with an Expectation Hangover. This particular brand of discomfort is profoundly sobering and uncomfortable.

Christine Hassler urges us to not wallow in regret, self-recrimination, or anger, and instead see these hangovers as a catalyst for profound transformation. Often life has to throw us a curveball (or several) so that we look in a different direction.

When we fully treat our Expectation Hangover on the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual level, we learn courage, faith, surrender, and love, and we make room for the kind of unexpected things that lead us more directly to a life we love—rather than a life we planned.

Building a strong and healthy physique requires more than simply adjusting our diet and exercise.

On this episode, fitness instructor Drew Manning shares his journey and book "Fit 2 Fat 2 Fit: The unexpected lessons from gaining and losing 75 lbs on purpose."

JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST

To better understand his client's struggles with weight loss, Drew gained and lost 75 lbs within 1 year. His challenge proved there is much more to transforming our bodies than just knowing what to do. It also requires a degree of mental and emotional fitness to take action and follow through with our plan.

Join us on Wellness Force Radio 131 as Drew Manning tells his story of going from "Fit 2 Fat 2 Fit," and his mission to show others that it's possible to get back into shape.

Listen To Episode 131 As Drew Uncovers:

  • The experience of growing up with 10 siblings and how this impacted his health and fitness
  • Why he decided to gain over 70 lbs to better understand his client's struggles
  • The emotional hardships of putting on excess weight
  • How stress can impact our lifestyle and wellness
  • Why developing mental and emotional fitness will help us overcome physical challenges
  • The power of owning our story and being vulnerable
  • How to navigate the feelings of stress and overwhelm
  • The importance of having a daily gratitude practice
  • How to cross the chasm between where we are and where we want to be
  • Ways to draw on support from our friends, family, and community
  • How to use meditation for overcoming decision fatigue
  • Why the industry is so focused on the Ketogenic diet
  • How to make a smooth transition into Ketosis and avoid the "Keto Flu"

Top 3 Takeaways From The Episode

  • We develop certain eating habits as children that can stay with us as we age. Although it's difficult to break the cycle of unhealthy eating, we can learn to enjoy fueling our body in a more nutritious way. Begin to focus on all of the benefits that come from living a healthy and energetic lifestyle. Keeping those thoughts front of mind will help us make better choices with our nutrition.
  • Developing more discipline will have a massive impact on what we accomplish in our lifetime.  We can begin doing this with small actionable steps every day. Studies have shown that simply making our bed each morning causes us to be 4-5 times more likely to achieve other daily goals. Start by taking 1 simple action in any area of life where you want to progress. This will build the momentum necessary for massive improvement.
  • The first step to a successful Ketogenic diet is giving the body time to adapt to that style of eating. This transition into Ketosis can generally take between 30-60 days. Once the body is used to running on ketones, we can begin experimenting with the different amounts and types of carbs we consume to help us discover what is optimal for our unique body.

Power Quotes From Drew Manning

"The Fit 2 Fat 2 Fit journey completely changed the way I viewed my client's struggles." - Drew Manning

"The physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual are all connected. When one area is lacking, the others will suffer as well." - Drew Manning

"I found that being overweight was very emotionally challenging." - Drew Manning

"Discipline will actually create more freedom in our lives." - Drew Manning

"Setting up forms of accountability will help us overcome procrastination." - Drew Manning

"Although it tends to be more challenging, it's possible to do the ketogenic diet when you're vegetarian or vegan." - Drew Manning

"A large part of feeling the 'Keto Flu' comes from an imbalance in our electrolytes." - Drew Manning

"I think it's beneficial for everyone to become their own self-experimentation, and find out what's optimal for their unique body." - Drew Manning

It is easy for this information to get lost in the ocean of distractions.

Today's episode reveals the breakthrough weight-loss device "Modius," from Neurovalens. This non-invasive wearable headband is helping to reduce body fat and increase wellness through activation of the vestibular nerve.

JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST

Traditionally, wearables have focused on tracking and monitoring. They can tell us things like how many steps we've taken, and the body's heart rate and calorie intake.

But this new technology with Modius works by activating the parts of our brain that will dictate how our system holds onto fat. It creates a sensation in the mind of physical activity which will shift our metabolism and help to release excess weight.

On this podcast, we talk with Tom Bilyeu, co-founder of Quest Nutrition and host of the "Impact Theory" podcast, along with Dr. Jason Mckeown, CEO of Neurovalens. They explain how combined with proper diet and exercise, Modius may control how the wellness and medical communities approach obesity in the years to come.

Listen To Episode 130 As We Uncover:

  • How to control fat loss through vestibular nerve activation
  • Tom's fascination with neuroscience and its impact on wellness
  • Why Tom decided to join forces with Neurovalence
  • Jason's path that led him to study vestibular stimulation with Dr. Ramachandran
  • The meaning behind the name "Modius"
  • How the hypothalamus helps to control our level of body fat
  • Why vestibular stimulation will cause a metabolic shift in our body
  • The changes Tom can notice since wearing the Modius headband
  • How the body uses insulin and leptin to regulate our weight and appetite
  • Jason's health transformation after using Modius and adjusting his lifestyle
  • The cognitive benefits that come from movement and exercise
  • How the vestibular system can impact depression and anxiety
  • The relation between the vagus and vestibular nerves
  • How vestibular stimulation affects our sleep
  • Why the effects of Modius won't lead to a dependency on the device
  • How a gratitude practice can help reduce stress levels

Top 3 Takeaways From The Show

  • Weight loss can be challenging for many individuals. Sometimes even with proper diet and exercise, we can still hold onto fat. There is an ideal weight where the brain believes it should keep the body, and this level increases with a sedentary lifestyle and high-calorie diet. Through neurostimulation with the Modius, we can help change this determined set point for our body's fat storage and begin to release weight more easily.
  • Don't be closed-minded to technology empowering human potential. Forward-thinking innovation is no longer a convenience, but a necessity in the wellness world. We must continuously develop our body's intuition to help regulate our health and these new tools and technologies give us an upper-hand in the process.
  • The Modius device isn't the "end all be all" for weight loss, but it's being shown to help us get closer to our goals. We still have to adjust our lifestyle and take steps to increase our physical and emotional wellness if we want to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Today's episode reveals the hidden aspects of our nature that determine how we respond to the expectations of ourselves and others.

JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST

On this podcast, we discover Gretchen Rubin's new book "The Four Tendencies: The Indispensable Personality Profiles That Reveal How To Make Your Life Better (And Other People's Lives Better, Too)"

These 4 Tendencies give us a framework for how we react to the internal and external demands in our lives.  When we better understand these patterns in our behavior, we gain immense control over our actions and decisions.

Although our personality type may be deeply ingrained,  we can benefit from knowing these predictable behavioral patterns and set ourselves up for success.

Listen to Wellness Force Radio 129 as Gretchen shares her insight from decades of research in happiness, habits, and so much more.

Listen To Episode 129 As Gretchen Uncovers:

  • The personality framework that determines how we respond to expectations
  • Character traits of the Obliger, Questioner, Rebel, and Upholder
  • How to gain a deeper understanding of our actions
  • The benefit from identifying these predictable patterns of our behavior
  • The strengths and weaknesses of our different tendencies
  • How we can fine-tune our self-awareness
  • Why others may not see the world as we do
  • Ways to set our internal and external framework up for success
  • How these personality types play out in our relationships
  • Ways to understand how our behavior fits into predictable patterns
  • How we can avoid disempowering language
  • Why Gretchen prefers the newspaper over televised news
  • How to get the most out of yourself and others
  • How to set up the accountability we need to meet an inner expectation
  • The Four Tendencies in a nutshell:

The Four Tendencies

Upholders respond readily to outer and inner expectations

Questioners question all expectations; they’ll meet an expectation if they think it makes sense

Rebels resist all expectations, outer and inner alike

Obligers meet outer expectations, but struggle to meet expectations they impose on themselves

Click Here To Take The Four Tendencies Quiz

Top 3 Takeaways From Gretchen

  • These personality traits may be deeply ingrained, but the great thing is we don't need to try and change who we are. Just by knowing our tendencies, we can set ourselves up for success.
  • If you fall into the large category of Obligers, remember to be mindful of Obliger Rebellion. This is when the demands and expectations from others begin to overwhelm us, and we get to the point of burnout and resentment. Typically, this happens when the Obliger feels used or taken advantage of, which they typically are.  Set healthy boundaries for your external accountability.
  • It's important to know that not everyone thinks like we do. And sometimes we can get upset when people don't live up to our expectations. There are times when we can't quite comprehend why people do the things they do. If we understand the personality traits and nature of others, we can remove judgment and enhance our impact, interactions, and relationships.

Power Quotes From Gretchen Rubin

"The Four Tendencies help us illuminate the hidden aspects of our nature." - Gretchen Rubin

"Perfectionism isn't about standards, it's about anxiety." - Gretchen Rubin

"I believe these tendencies are hard-wired and genetically determined." - Gretchen Rubin

"Your upbringing and culture affect how your tendency is expressed." - Gretchen Rubin

"An upholder doesn't need to say "yes" to everything." - Gretchen Rubin

"Obligers can find accountability by thinking about their future self." - Gretchen Rubin

"It doesn't matter what you should be able to do, there's only what works for you." - Gretchen Rubin

"When a Rebel pairs up at work or in romance, it's almost always with an Obliger." - Gretchen Rubin

"The language we use leads to dramatically different results." - Gretchen Rubin

Gretchen's New Book: "The Four Tendencies"

Gretchen Rubin The Four Tendencies

During her multi-book investigation into understanding human nature, Gretchen Rubin realized that by asking the seemingly dry question "How do I respond to expectations?" we gain explosive self-knowledge. She discovered that based on their answer, people fit into Four Tendencies: Upholders, Questioners, Obligers, and Rebels. Our Tendency shapes every aspect of our behavior, so using this framework allows us to make better decisions, meet deadlines, suffer less stress, and engage more effectively.

More than 600,000 people have taken her online quiz, and managers, doctors, teachers, spouses, and parents already use the framework to help people make significant, lasting change.

With sharp insight, compelling research, and hilarious examples, The Four Tendencies will help you get happier, healthier, more productive, and more creative. It's far easier to succeed when you know what works for you.

128 Mind Pump: In a tech-driven world with more connection and media distraction than ever before, how can we balance these forces so they assist in our wellness journey?

JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST

This level of technology and social integration is still in its infancy, and we already see some of the physical and psychological impacts. Our constant distractions make it challenging to focus and enjoy the present moment, and the mainstream media constantly promotes fear and drama. Studies are also showing the links between mobile phone addiction with depression and anxiety.

These new technologies have far reaching benefits and also unintended consequences. It's the conscious choice of how we use and incorporate them into our lives that will dictate their impact.

In this highly digital and connected age, we have to ask ourselves an important question:

How can we develop a healthy use of technology so it enhances our productivity and wellness?

On this episode of Wellness Force Radio, we explore this topic and more with the team from Mind Pump Media, Sal Di Stefano, Adam Schafer, and Justin Andrews.  We touch on great topics such as the future of group exercise, the benefits of getting in nature, and how to increase our emotional intelligence.

Listen To Episode 128 As We Uncover:

  • Sales stories from 24-hour fitness
  • Mistakes made by beginner trainers
  • Interview styles and how they prep for shows
  • The rapid speed at which technology is changing the world and our habits
  • The addictive properties of technology
  • How apps and social media are engineered to get us hooked
  • How new forms of stimulation chemically alter the brain
  • Why mindfulness will dictate our habits
  • How the ego thrives and survives off drama and negativity
  • Predictions for the future of Virtual Reality
  • How we can stop identifying with thoughts that don't empower us
  • Creating sustainable change by getting in touch with our true motives
  • How our diet can affect skin care
  • Why we need to partition time for self-care
  • The unhealthy ways we choose to numb ourselves from problems
  • Why we must avoid getting stuck in a single workout routine
  • Finding the balance between intense and relaxing workouts
  • The rejuvenating effects of spending time in nature
  • How the fitness space is beginning to gamify workouts

Top 3 Takeaways From The Episode

  • Our ego loves to feed into drama and negativity.  Unfortunately, the media is made up of 99% bad news.  We have to understand that our consumption drives the creators, and what we consume is what they produce.  Try to fill your mind with positive content that shows us what is possible.
  • We can find tremendous emotional healing when we stop identifying with our thoughts.  Slow down and try to observe, without letting your mind consume you or become who you are.
  • Exercise has to be viewed as an investment in our health.  When we put the time in, we get exponential hours of energy and productivity back.  Partition out time on a regular basis for self-care.

In our fast paced and demanding world where the ability to pivot and transition every day is a necessity, how do we move past what Psychologists call "Impostor Syndrome" to conquer the deeper fears of not being enough?

JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST

Impostor Syndrome is a concept that describes individuals who are marked by an inability to realize their accomplishments and have a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud." This way of thinking causes us to dismiss our accomplishments and abilities, feeling they may have occurred from luck, circumstance, or having deceived others into thinking we're someone other than our true selves.

To some extent, everyone is ingrained with this mental noise that can tell us we're not good enough or don't belong. Our mind often wonders what may happen if people find out we're not as intelligent as they think. These thoughts can be the loudest when pursuing a goal or passion, and the fear of exposing ourselves as a failure can limit exploration and destroy the courage needed to delve into new experiences.

To overcome these limiting and destructive thought processes, it's necessary to ask ourselves an important question:

How can we move past Impostor Syndrome to develop our power, awareness, and take action in the direction of our true desires?

On this episode of Wellness Force Radio, we explore this topic and much more with Ella Lucas-Averett, Host of the "On Air With Ella" Podcast. During this interview, she discusses techniques to move past our fears and find greater alignment in our lives.

Listen To Episode 127 As Ella Uncovers:

  • Why she felt a calling to spread the message of health and wellness
  • The importance of taking complete accountability in our lives
  • How to start where we are, use what we have, and do what we can
  • Why the path towards success isn't a linear journey
  • How to make sure impostor syndrome doesn't stop us from pursuing the things we desire
  • The power that comes from being authentic
  • Triggers that can amplify impostor syndrome
  • How we can take an emotional inventory and find our authentic voice
  • Ways to turn fear into curiosity
  • How to determine if something isn't in alignment with our true selves
  • How thoughts are manufactured around events, situations, and circumstances
  • The importance of taking complete accountability in our relationships
  • Why taking action won't always be fun and comfortable
  • How we can use visualization to overcome our fears
  • The tools that help us move through impostor syndrome

Top 3 Takeaways From Ella

  • In order to take more control over our lives, it's necessary to develop radical accountability with our thoughts, emotions, and actions.
  • We must choose to manufacture powerful thoughts if we are to move past our fears and find greater alignment.
  • There is strength in vulnerability and letting our authentic selves shine through to the world. Trying to project an image of perfection can hold us back from finding our deeper calling.

Power Quotes From Ella

"I don't see any point in trying to project some image of perfection." - Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

"If fear could have killed you, it would have by now." - Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

"Our confusion stems from a lack of consciousness." - Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

"We can live in the past or focus on the possibilities." - Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

"It's not about shame and blame, it's about choice and power." - Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

"The antidote to fear is taking action." - Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

"Perfection is fear with different clothes on." - Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

"Motivation is on the other side of action." - Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

HRV - With the chronic stress and multitude of health conditions in our modern world, it can be extremely beneficial to understand how Heart Rate Variability can optimize our wellness and bring the autonomic nervous system into better balance.

JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is the change in time between successive heart beats, and these small variations occur in response to internal and external events.

These fluctuations are directly linked to our autonomic nervous system which helps to control our bodies unconscious processes. By tracking these variations, we can better understand our nervous systems, cardiovascular systems, and respiratory systems, and how our bodies are able to respond to many of life’s stressors that have a massive impact on our wellness.

By tracking these unique variations over time, we can better understand the signals we receive from our body. In just 30-60 days using HRV, this can lead an increase in our ability to recognize and better manage life’s stressors.

If we want to use this HRV data to truly improve our physical and emotional intelligence, we get to ask ourselves an important question:

How can a prime biomarker like HRV practically improve how we manage our emotions, stress, burnout, and decrease our risk for many of today's common ailments?

On this episode of Wellness Force Radio, we explore this topic and much more with Jason Moore, CEO of Elite HRV. During this interview, Jason discusses the importance of monitoring our HRV, and his non-evasive tracking tool that will help us gain insight into this important biomarker and how we can use it to fuel our health journey.

Top 3 Takeaways From Jason Moore

  • We can sometimes spend years trying to develop our wellness intuition. We can speed up this process if we learn the proper ways to track and analyze our biological data through different forms of wellness tech.
  • Extreme exercise might make us "better" at certain activities, but this may be at the expense of other parts of our wellness.  Technology can help us know when to slow down so we don't jeopardize important areas of our health.
  • HRV can give us incredible insight into other areas of our wellness and how our body functions.  We don't need massive amounts of tracking with HRV, 5 minutes a day for a couple weeks can give us great insight into how we can adjust our lifestyle to improve our wellness.
