"How you perceive, interrupt, and how you experience reality is unique to you like your thumb print. That neurologically you are an endangered species." - Bonnie Kelly

Today, certified life coach & personal development expert, Bonnie Kelly, tells her story have how she overcame an astonishing amount of hurt and betrayal to become the strong woman, coach, speaker, and author on a mission to help 100 million people end needless suffering.

In just one year, we've listened to so many incredible stories about how powerful the subconscious mind is, and today we have a powerful one that sits atop the collective.

One way to Bonnie was able to let go of her past to move on with a new life was by reprogramming negative thoughts to create a new, truthful story and forgiving her past.

Our Subconscious Software

"Feelings are the guards that stand watch over the belief ensuring it will not escape. For many of us, childhood felt more like an episode of Survivor than Leave it to Beaver." - Bonnie Kelly

Our brain is similar to a computer. We have a monitor that connects to the tower to transmit all of the necessary information to function and learn. Inside the computer, we have software that stores and saves all of our memories in the history file.

Our software is our subconscious mind which controls all of our thinking and can also create either positive, true thoughts or negative, false thoughts in our mind as far as:

  • Who we think we are
  • How we show up in the world
  • How we fit in the world

Negative Core Beliefs

Throughout life, we collect negative experiences and traumas. Even as children, any unintentional hardship that we experience becomes  part of our negative core beliefs.

These experiences are like viruses being installed in our brains. We end up accepting harmful events and remember them in our subconscious. Once these negative thoughts become part of our every day thinking, it's hard to change them.

If we don't challenge our negative core beliefs, they become part of who we are and we tell ourselves false ideas such as:

  • We're not lovable.
  • We don't matter.
  • We're not good enough.

Stop The Cycle of Negative Thinking

We attract ourselves to feelings or environments that are familiar to us. Because of this, we always we end up in experiences at re-validate any negative thoughts that we have about ourselves.

Bonnie experienced a constant cycle of  bad relationships because that was what she was drawn to. Her negative core belief that she is not lovable attracted her to people and situations and confirmed that thought.

She's realized that if we don't recognize the continuous cycle of negative thinking, we will continue to believe that our NCB's are true.

We have to realize that this is how the brain is working against us.

If we disconnect ourselves from the negative thinking and stop reinforcing a new habit from a previous negative thought for 3 days, we can change ourselves emotionally. New, positive connections can reshape you into a new form of being.

Put into daily practice, this can help us get out of long-term depression. However, if we reinforce the negative thoughts again, then we go back to our old way of thinking.

Learning to Forgive and Let Go

"Forgiveness isn't about the other person. It's about us. It's about letting go of the things that have happened because forgiveness is a gift you give to yourself."-Tony Robbins

It takes a tremendous effort to discover the root cause of our subconscious. Once we've discovered it, we need to focus on changing it through techniques on a regular basis. One method that Bonnie suggests is to practice forgiveness and retell your true story.

Not Your Fault, But Your Responsibility

The first stop on the process of healing the negative subconscious mind is to realize that things that have happened to you were not your fault and you were the victim.

The words that people have said to you or the actions they have done were not your fault. Therefore these experiences that have created NCB in your mind don't actually have any true meaning that validates the person that you are.

The things that have happened to you are not your fault and you became the victim. By giving that story power, your giving away your freedom.

Forgiveness takes time and strength, but it will be your gateway of letting go of any wrongdoing that has been done to you. Forgiving others will help you transform you story and rewrite it so that you feel empowered once again and find your true core.

Forgiveness is a practice and a choice that you have to do over and over to heal.

Unwilling to forgive will consume you and keep you stuck with all of your feelings of anger and resentment towards others and what has happened to you.

No one is gong to save you and you have to become your own hero.

When it comes to personal health, one size does NOT fit all.

We are all unique in terms of our preferences, genetics, life experiences. Therefore, what works for one person may not work for us.

The same can be said about a relationship between a personal coach and a client. Just because one approach worked with one client doesn't mean that it will work with another client.

What does it take to a create a positive relationship between a personal coach and client? How can a personal coach connect with a client in such a way that it will change their life forever?

ACSM Certified Personal Trainer and Precision Nutrition Coach, Lisa Perkins, of Primal Transformations shares her 5 tips for changing your life around and discovering the perfect health plan for you.

The Power of Connection in The Coaching Relationship

"We can't look at quantitative biomarker data without looking at the emotional components."-Lisa Perkins

During her journey to become a personal coach, Lisa discovered the power of emotional intelligence and connection with other people. She realized that there is so much more to health than food or exercise.

A good coach looks at the whole person.  Nutrition, exercise, and sleep all matter but they are just part of the story.

One-size-fits-all plans don’t allow wiggle room for things like work deadlines, the stress of caring for family members, or internal struggles with self-esteem.  They also don’t provide support to help clients consistently implement their plan.

Lack of customization and lack of support often prevent people from being successful.  Good coaches know this.  They work with clients to develop an enjoyable process that leads to long-term, sustainable results.

A person needs to set a health goal that connects their deepest values.

Lisa has witnessed the struggle of many clients dealing with a story of yo-yo dieting, restrictive eating, and plan hopping. They weren't told how important it is to lock in your "big why."

According to Lisa, you have to determine how you want to FEEL when you achieve your goal.  If you’re trying to conform to how you think society wants you to look, that’s not a positive motivator.

Instead, ask yourself, ‘How do I want to show up in the world?’

Strong?

Radiantly healthy?

Energetic?

Capable of doing whatever I want to do?

These are the powerful emotions that will help us keep our eyes focused on our unique goal

Finding the Perfect Coach for You

Find a coach who you can connect with and is willing to collaborate on a customized plan.

Take the time to interview several coaches.  This is a personal relationship and it’s vital that you feel comfortable opening up with them.

Don’t settle for the first coach you talk to or the least expensive coach.

Remember:  You are worth the journey to reclaim your health and mojo.  Take the time to find a good coach and see for yourself how big an impact this has on your health, fitness, and life.

Your Approach Predicts Your Progress

"When we're constantly judging ourselves, nothing will happen. When we talk with other people that we trust, we can see things in a new light. We're all struggling with the same things, but we're not talking about them." - Lisa Perkins

The diet industry only focuses on short term result plans, but these often end in us reverting back to old habits. If we're going to do the work, we want the results that we get to keep!

This requires us to slow down a bit, figure out our key roadblocks, and do the work to get out of our own way.

This doesn't seem very sexy until you discover how amazing life can be without the diet/shame roller coaster.

Just like Goldilocks, you need a plan that is 'just right' for you.

If what you're currently doing isn't working for you, it's not a moral failure. It simply isn't the approach that works for you! This doesn't mean you start judging yourself.

Instead, you need to get curious! For example:

You're hungry at 10AM. Ask, 'Did I get enough of the right food for breakfast? What could I change tomorrow?'.

You like to graze in the evening.  Ask:  ‘Did I eat enough protein, carbs, fiber, and healthy fat at dinner?’  OR ‘Am I craving snacks out of habit/feel disconnected from others/feel bitter about going to a job I detest tomorrow?’

You simply can’t make yourself go to the gym.  Ask:  ‘Where can I find a bodyweight exercise routine that I can do at home that makes me feel good and doesn’t make me feel punished?’.  (Hint:  YouTube is full of them!)

These are examples of how getting curious, as opposed to judging yourself for ‘failing’ on someone else’s plan, allows you to customize a nutrition and fitness plan fits your preferences, goals, and lifestyle.

Become the Expert on You vs Following Gurus

We have the power to take our health into our own hands but, sadly, we often forget this.

Lisa often reminds her clients that they were in the driver’s seat of their own life the entire time, they were simply napping at the wheel!

Life is short.  We mustn’t settle.  If your ‘normal’ is tired, unexcited, and feeling frumpy, it’s time to wake up.  We all deserve better than this. The great news?  It’s not that hard to get it!

We tend to over-complicate this ‘getting healthy’ business.

It’s pretty simple:  What could you do in the next hour that would make you feel more vibrant?

Could you go for a walk instead of eating that free (not!) break room doughnut?  Could you call a friend instead of going on social media?

These small actions don’t seem like much but when you put them together, you’ve got a beautiful thing called momentum.

Lisa recommends 3 steps to begin your own health journey:

  • 1) Eat real food most of the time
    • Paleo is a simple approach and a good baseline to just start eating simple, nutrient dense food.
  • 2)Become aware of your body's signals
    • Ask yourself, "Am I physically hungry?"
    • When you're aware of your body's signals, you develop self awareness.
  • 3) Prepared with healthy food
    • Taking the time to have healthy food prepared and ready to go is key. We want to make the healthiest option the most convenient option.
    • High quality protein (organic, pastured, grass fed, wild caught), a wide variety  of organic veggies, and a moderate amount of healthy fat (olive oil, coconut oil, grass fed butter, avocado) is key to good energy, feeling satisfied, and developing a fit physique.

There IS NO wagon

According to Lisa, the wagon mentality was invented by the diet industry to make us feel like we can't figure things out for ourselves. Unfortunately, this approach is toxic for our self-esteem. It prevents us from building trust with our own hunger/fullness signales and it makes us feel out of control.

A better approach is to determine what represents an improvement for you at each meal.  Start there.  Learn to get on the same team with your body.  You wouldn’t feed your kids a sleeve of cookies for dinner because that wouldn’t be taking good care of them.  Give yourself the same grace. You deserve to take impeccable care of yourself.

Ditch the wagon and adopt the ‘I take impeccable care of myself’ approach.  Not only is this more enjoyable, the result is a body and life you love.

Secret Sauce...Start Living Now!

How do you think your life will be different when you’ve lost weight or improved your health?  What activities, career moves, or social engagements are you putting off?

Start doing these things now.

Why? Lisa gives two reasons:

1) You are more than worthy right now to show up, say yes to friends, take the trip, wear the bikini, go for the promotion, or whatever else you’re putting off until you’ve lost (insert number) pounds. Does anyone care what J.K. Rowling or Angela Merkel weighs? It’s ridiculous when you stop and think about it.   Start living now.

2) You’re much more likely to achieve your health and fitness goals if you’re excited about something else in your life.  Too often, we use food as entertainment or as a way to fill the void. Let’s fill the void with what we’re actually craving which is very often a sense of purpose, joy, and meaningful social connection.

"Our dietary choices play a major role in determining whether we are going to live into our 80s and 90s and even beyond with a good, functioning brain, or like 50% of people who live to be age 85, we will experience brain decline in the form of Alzheimer's which is a preventable disease."- Dr. David Perlmutter

When we think about brain health, we don't think that our gut has anything to do with it. However, the fact is that the gut has everything to do with how our brains function as we grow older.

Neurologist and New York Times Best Selling Author, Dr. David Perlmutter has witnessed the damaging effects that a poor diet can have on our brains. Today is perfect timing with the launch of his new book, The Grain Brain Whole Life Plan, as he shares why we are vulnerable to develop brain degenerative disease and how we can take matters into our own hands in order to live long, healthy lives with a bright mind that is free of illness.

Make the Choice to Have a Healthy Brain

Even if a relative of yours was diagnosed with a brain degenerative disease such as Alzheimer's, you have the amazing opportunity to make lifestyle choices to ensure your brain's health.

Factors such as sleep, nutrition, stress levels, and exercise can impact your health, but you can also take advantage of them to improve your wellness and lower the chances of brain decline.

Connecting Wellness And Gut Health

"It's a bit humbling to recognize that mood is regulated by our gut. Not only through the process of controlling inflammation, which is a cornerstone player in depression, but that around 90% of our levels of dopamine and serotonin are not manufactured in the brain. They're mostly manufactured in the gut." - Dr. David Perlmutter

If the gut is leaky and we lack serotonin, it can be linked to feelings of depression. In a study with probiotic yogurt, researchers found a dramatic change in brain function and mood in the test subjects that ate the yogurt compared to those who did not.

Build a Healthy Gut

At this moment, there is a diverse community of healthy, gut bacteria living inside of us. If any harm comes our gut's way, it can increase the chances of having a leaky gut. This leaky gut can lead to inflammation and degenerative diseases including:

  • Alzheimer's
  • Parkinson's
  • Diabetes
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Cancer

The right way to eat food, is to focus on following a diet that helps reduce the chance of a leaky gut and inflammation from happening inside the body.

Do You Have a Leaky Gut?

In today's world, we should assume that it is likely that we all have somewhat of a leaky gut. We would have to take a test or participate in a study to know for sure by having an LPS level done in a lab.

There's a higher chance that you have a leaky gut if you have an inflammatory condition such as:

  • Depression
  • Early onset Parkinson's
  • Alzheimer's
  • Joint issues
  • Skin inflammation
  • Autism

What can you do to heal your leaky gut?

To help heal your gut, remove any offensive agents that may be harming it such as any overuse of:

  • Antibiotics
  • GMOs
  • Drinking chlorinated water
  • Artificial sugars and sweeteners
  • Acid blocking drugs
    • Proton pump inhibitors
    • Non-steroid and anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Stress

To heal our gut, we need to stimulate and increase the diversity of the organisms that live inside of the gut by exercising and eating foods that are rich in pre-biotic fiber that helps nurture our gut bacteria:

  • Mexican yam/ jicamo
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Leek
  • Dandelion greens
  • Kimchi
  • Kobucha
  • Yogurt
  • Fermented vegetables

The Truth About Sugar and Gluten

"Inflammation caused by sugar consumption can lead to diabetes and quadruples your chances for Alzheimer's Disease." - Dr. David Perlmutter

For decades, we've been told that gluten and sugar is good for our health and that fat is bad. However, recent research has shown that this is the exact opposite.

Healthy fat is good for both the body and brain function, but gluten and sugar (including artificial sugar and sweeteners) can cause our insulin levels to spike which leads to inflammation in the body.

In fact, according to Dr. Perlmutter, artificial sweeteners were created to help people control the amount of sugars in their diet, but still be able to taste something sweet. Unfortunately, artificial sugars and sweeteners can dramatically increase a person's risk for obesity and diabetes.

Take your health into your own hands by making good choices. Eat healthy and avoid any sugary drinks, high gluten foods, and anything labeled "sugar free" or "contains artificial sugars."

The Best Sources of Healthy Fat

There's a lot of taboo hanging around the words, "fat" and "fatty food." However, healthy sources of fat are great for our bodies and important for our brain's health.

According to Dr. Perlmutter, the brain is already made up of a lot of saturated fat and even human breast milk is 50% saturated fat. If you want to ensure that you follow a healthy diet, use the Ketogenic and Mediterranean diets as a good model to follow.

The best sources of healthy fats include:

  • Extra virgin olive oil (organic)
  • Fatty fish with DHA
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Avocado
  • Grass-fed and free-range meat

Olive oil particularly is good source of polyphenols that act as antioxidants and nurture the gut bacteria. This source of healthy fat provides both mono and unsaturated fats for our brain cell building blacks.

When you follow a Ketogenic or Mediterranean based diet, but add extra amounts of olive or cocnut oil, your cognitive function can improve dramatically.

A Diet to Help Prevent Alzheimer's Disease

To better understand your body and gene makeup, there are numerous services available from companies that offer biometrics tests including:

The sooner you better understand your genes and if there is a chance for you to have an inflammatory disease, the sooner you can take action to fight against it.

Depending on our dietary fat composition, there is a risk of dementia or Alzheimer's Disease, but it can be handled by following a diet that includes food that is high in healthy fats.

As mentioned before, we should be eating more nuts, seeds, olive oil, and avocado. Monosaturated fats such as almond oil, almond butter/nut butter, an oleic acid in sunflower oil can help prevent degenerative brain disease.

However, we should avoid canola oil, vegetable oil, corn oil and other modified oils in our diets. These are the unhealthy oils that can harm our body and brain function.

Build a Healthy Brain with Aerobics

If you want to build a healthy brain, change your diet, but also increase the amount of aerobic exercise. Working out helps to turn on BDNF (Brain-derived neurotrophic factor) which serves as a growth hormone for the brain and helps increase the number of memory cells throughout our lifetime.

People who exercise regularly can reduce their chances for Alzheimer's Disease by 50%!

One of the best things you can do to help your brain stay healthy is to include aerobic exercise for 20 minutes every day.

6 Key Factors For a Whole Life Plan

According to Dr. Perlmutter, there are 6 key factors and goals that take place in creating a whole life plan for a healthy brain and gut:

  • Reducing and controlling inflammation
  • Turning the body into a fat burning machine
  • Balancing levels of bacteria
  • Balancing hormones and increasing leptin sensitivity
  • Taking care of our genes
  • Balancing our life

Nov 7, 2016

"We have two different options. One option is that we can suppress and cover up our skin's problems with creams, makeup, or topical steroids. However, this is not really addressing the root problem of what is going on with our body. The other option is to really look at what the body is trying to tell us. The body is so wise and it's so important to pay attention to the signals that our skin gives us instead of ignoring them." - Dr. Trevor Cates

The skin is an incredible organ that protects our underlying tissues, organs, and bones. Each day, it keeps us insulated, controls our body temperature, and helps us take in essential Vitamin D from the sun.

The skin is also a key indicator that lets us know when our physical and emotional health is unbalanced. If our skin is dry, oil, itchy, or breaks out in acne, it's telling us that there is something else going on with our bodies that needs to be addressed.

If our skin is so amazing, shouldn't we do more for it by eating the right foods and give it the care that it needs to stay strong and healthy?

This week, licensed Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Trevor Cates aka The Spa Doctor shares her personal experience of dealing with skin problems and how we can heal our skin from within. You will learn how to use natural foods and real life methods so that you can have that healthy glowing skin no matter your age or race.

Discover The Root of Skin Problems

"We're all different because of our genes, but that doesn't mean that we're stuck with our genes. We can change our genetic expression based upon how we live. We can change the foods that we eat, the products that we use, or the toxins in our environment such as mold."   - Dr. Trevor Cates

We have the power to take control and improve our own health and wellness.

At a young age, Dr. Trevor Cates suffered from allergies and infections that led to bumps and itchy hives on her skin. Once her parents got in touch with a holistic practitioner, she learned exactly what her skin and body needed to be healthy again.  Soon enough, her skin cleared up and her self-confidence at school blossomed.

The root of Dr. Cates skin problems were not only because of her genetics, but also because of the organic milk that she was drinking and the toxic mold in her home.

Our skin acts as a magic mirror and can give us so many clues about our health. Take a moment a think to yourself, do you have the following indicators of poor skin health:

Is you skin __________?

  • Dry
  • Oily
  • Dull

Do you have__________?

  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Hives
  • Psoriasis
  • Rosacea

Whether we're experiencing mild or extreme cases, if these skin problems show up, it's a good indicator that something is out of balance in our bodies.

The Best and Worst Foods for Our Skin

There are many foods that can help improve the health of our skin, but there are also many trigger foods that can worsen it. Here, Dr. Trevor Cates has put together a list of The 5 Best and Worst Foods for Skin Inflammation:

5 Best Foods for Skin Inflammation:

  • Berries
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Ginger
  • Wild Alaskan Salmon
  • Cruciferous Vegetables

5 Worst Foods for Skin Inflammation:

  • Sugar
  • Dairy
  • Barbecued and overcooked meat
  • Refined grains
  • Trans fats and common cooking oils such as vegetable oil

Dr. Cates also shared that corn, soy, and nightshade foods (i.e. potatoes, paprika, tomato, and eggplant) also have a negative affect on our bodies.

In her upcoming book, Clean Skin From Within, she shares more information on what foods to eat and what to avoid.

How do we know what foods are best for us?

To learn about your own body and what foods are good for your skin and what will make you break out, Dr. Cates suggests doing a 2 week to 1 month challenge to discover what specific trigger foods affect your health.

During the challenge, eliminate any of the top trigger/ worst foods for your skin from your diet. At the end of the challenge, slowly reintroduce each food once at a time and see if you react to the food in a negative manner.

Dr. Cates also has a 21 Healthy Habits Challenge.

Avoid Harmful Ingredients on Your Skin

"If you can't put it in your month, then you probably shouldn't put it on your skin."                    - Dr. Trevor Cates

On average, we use 9 personal care products each day such as: shampoo, fragrance, shaving cream, lotion, face wash, deodorant, hair gel, makeup etc. More often than not, these products contain ingredients that are harmful toxins or hormone disrupting chemicals.

Dr. Trevor Cates shared several specific ingredients that we should stay away from. You may click here to read her entire blog post, Are Your Skincare Products Causing a Hormone Imbalance?

Even if products claim to be "natural," it's just a word that is used to hide the fact that the ingredients include synthetic fragrance and other hormone disrupting chemicals such as diethyl phthalate and DMDM hydantoin aka formaldehyde releasers.

Fragrance

Diethyl phthalate is a plasticizing agent that is used to help hold the scent in fragrance. Even though we all want to smell good, a long-lasting scent is connected to headaches, dizziness, asthma, and allergies.

A better alternative is to use essential oils if you want to smell good all day. Do your research and find a company that you know you can trust and one that uses clean extraction processes for their essential oil products.

Beauty Products

Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and irritant found in nail products, hair dye, fake eyelash adhesives, and some shampoos. It is banned in the European Union, but unfortunately the FDA still allows it to be used as an ingredient in our products.

Sunscreen

One common ingredient that also disrupts our hormones is oxybenzone. Stay away from products with this ingredient and replace it with something that includes minerals such as zinc oxide and anti-titanium dioxide. One of Dr. Cates' favorite sunscreens is from DeVita.

The Impact of Our Emotions on Our Skin

Genetics, food, and environmental toxins are not the only factors that affect our skin's health. Our emotional wellness plays a big part as well.

If we're emotionally unbalanced because of stress and other factors, this can affect our thyroid health and cortisol levels. Excess cortisol levels can help trigger skin inflammation which can create or worsen skin conditions.

To learn about your skin's health, Dr. Trevor Cates has a Skin Quiz that you can take. Here are Josh's results:

Take Action to Heal Your Family's Skin

"It's important that instead of using food to help us feel better, we should deal with what's really underlying there. Find out what are the emotional issues that are going on and address those issues. The sooner you can do that with kids, the better you can help them address their health on their own. It's so much better than to say, "Here's a piece of candy. Everything's gong to be okay." - Dr. Trevor Cates on comfort food and children

To help your family live life with healthy skin and bodies, lead by example. Whether they're 7 or 17, kids will pay attention to what their parents are doing and look up to them.

Eat healthy meals and encourage them to do the same.

Instead of serving the same traditional kid meals i.e. Mac n' Cheese or hot dogs, introduce new foods at an early stage. Take them to different restaurants such as Thai or Indian to help them learn to appreciate and try different foods. The earlier, the better.

Pay attention to your children's dietary needs as well. If you know that some foods affect their skin, teach them what foods are not good for them and what substitutes are better for their health. If you know that your child shouldn't eat gluten or dairy, take a moment to teach them the importance of following their diet.

Walk them through a self analysis by asking questions:

  • What did you eat?
  • How did you feel after you ate? How do you feel now?
  • What should you eat in the future?

Tina Muir is a Saucony sponsored professional ELITE runner who recently represented Great Britain in the World Half Marathon Championships. Tina is the Community Manager for RunnersConnect and host of popular running podcast Run to the Top. Tina is originally from St. Albans, UK, now living in Lexington, KY with her husband (and coach) Steve. With PRs of 16:08 (5k), 33:24 (10k), 1:13 (half marathon), 2:41 (marathon), Tina may have elite speed, but she candidly shares what it means to train, live and breathe your dreams (while still maintaining balance!) on her blog tinamuir.com.

"Running is a lot like life. The more you persevere through those difficult moments, the better it feels afterwards. I realized early on that if I could persevere better than most people, I would feel so much better knowing that I overcame the mental demons while I was running." - Tina Muir

On this podcast, Tina shares her experiences and expertise, what it takes to build a strong body and mind, and most importantly how it feels to use running for life and wellness in an open and honest way.

Running For Health, Wellness, and Life

Every year hundreds of thousands of new runners lace up their new shoes and hit the pavement striding towards their wellness and health goals.  For Tina, and many of us on the wellness path,  running is more than just breaking a sweat, it's a way of living a wellness based life.

Over the past decade and beyond, Tina has worked her way to represent Great Britain as a professional athlete, but her road to the top has not come without busting through many personal and physical thresholds. She believes that whether you're an endomorph, ectomorph, or mesomorph, the right style of running has the potential to change not only your physical health, but to sharpen the edge of your mind.

As the community manager of Runners Connect, a pro, and busy wife, she literally runs and walks her talk.

From surmounting panic attacks, growing personal power, and upgrading emotional health, Tina believes in following her heart; it's the message she spreads not only on the Run to The Top podcast but on her highly popular running blog called "Fuel Your Future."

She reminds us with her life's work how running can be a beautiful mirror for the mental hurdles we all scale.

"With running, it's actually us against sabotaging ourselves." - Tina Muir

Being Imperfectly Perfect

Tina shares openly and honestly in this Wellness Force Radio podcast and on her blog about running outside of the current paradigm where runners are "supposed" to look:

"For me, yes I could lose those extra few pounds, but then I risk sending myself down a dark, obsessive path, and it would mean I would not get to enjoy the cake and ice cream that does make me happy, so I would rather stay as I am, but know I am enjoying my food, and staying healthy as a runner.Every single body has something to celebrate. Every single runner has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and that should be taken into account. Do not spend your life trying to look like someone else, spend your life doing what makes you happy, and the rest will follow." - Tina Muir

Oct 24, 2016

"I don't want someone to feel that they need my help. I want them to feel empowered about their body. The most powerful part about the whole journey with anyone that I've ever worked with is the long-term sustainable result. I want you to leave my care and I want you to teach your family and other people how to be healthy." - Dr. Matt Accurso on encouraging his health participants to feel empowered about their own health.

Many sources have claimed that we can only combat weight loss resistance and gain high performance energy if we stick to a strict "one fits all" nutrition and exercise regime. However, living a healthy lifestyle isn't just about checking off a doctor's to do list as we go through life.

Health goes beyond the surface with a closer look at our body's cells, hormones, gut, and brain connection.

Lead Training Doctor at Designer Health Centers, Dr. Matt Accurso, shares his experience and tips on how we can become health empowered, lose old weight, and gain the energy we crave to develop into high performers.

Become Health Empowered

"Your body has the power to do what it needs to do. All I simply did was address the deficiencies and toxicities and then we let your body heal." - Dr. Matt Accurso on helping his health participants.

When you visit with your physician, don't see yourself as just a patient. Instead of just a patient, you are a health participant because you are there to take control of your own health.

A physician can help you with a medical problem that needs to be addressed with a short term solution. However, that one visit is not going to fix all of your health needs. Instead of relying on a physician, specialist, or therapist to fix all of your health problems, take control into your own hands.

You are empowered to live a long, healthy journey by making good decisions that will impact your health.

Defeat Weight Loss Resistance

Weight loss resistance happens when the brain is trying to communicate to the body yet cell receptors are blunted so they can't hear what's happening from the brain. By simply adding more good fats in your diet, you actually start to replenish those cells in the thyroid and gut."- Dr. Matt Accurso

Rather than looking at your body as a whole, look at it in parts and pieces like a puzzle. View the body from the outlook of its cells, organs, hormones, micronutrients, and gut health. Everything in the body plays an important part and anything could be preventing you from losing old weight.

Many popular diets will help people lose sugar weight, but they're not sustainable for long-term weight (Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and traditional diets).

A long-term diet has to promote proper hormonal function health as well in the brain and body.

Two hormones in the body that are key to losing weight are leptin and ghrelin.

Regulate Hormones for Healthy Weight Loss

Ghrelin hormones increase hunger in the body and leptin manages energy, weight loss, and reducing appetite. Unlike other diets that focus on low-carb diets and staying away from fats, the Ketogenic Diet focuses on eating healthy fats.

Once you've reached the ketosis stage, your body is better at regulating the ghrelin and leptin hormones to help increase weight loss.

Not only will Ketosis help increase the body's weight loss, but it will also replenish the body's cells. Once thyroid and gut cells are replenished, they can better community with the brain.

Regain Your Energy

Depending on what you eat on a day-to-day basis and your sleep cycle, you may find yourself with either little energy or a sufficient amount to get you through the day.

If you find yourself exhausted or getting very little sleep, pay attention to you diet.

If a person does not have enough healthy fats in their diet is consuming too many toxins, they need they pay closer attention to their diet. Without healthy fats and nutrition, a person may have a macronutrient deficiency that is creating interruptions during the REM sleep cycle.

If you wake up feeling energized, but then crash after lunch, you might not be getting the nutrients you need to help you rest and regain your energy.

Sleep and diet are key to feeling energized from morning to night. One method is to get into a state of Ketosis so that your body is burning fat on a regular basis. Otherwise, you can make simpler changes to your diet including:

  • Not snacking between meals.
  • Eating a low-carb diet and healthy fats i.e. nuts and seeds.
  • Starting to take vitamins and supplements without USPS vitamins.

Following a healthy diet that can increase your energy for higher performance means eating more:

  • Fresh water fish with fatty Omega 3
  • Free range white meat
  • Grass fed red meat

Specific foods with Omega 3 have so many benefits i.e.:

  • Triggering healthy hormones
  • Increasing cell-to-cell communication
  • Improving your brain's and body's health

Beat Fatigue with Neurological Overload Sets

One way to beat fatigue is to do Neurological Overload Sets (created by Ben Pakulski). NOS is a functional fitness type approach exercise to help you fatigue your nervous system while fatiguing the muscle by doing 60-80% of your max power and then holding position at the end of each set for about 20 seconds.

By overloading the nervous system, you can optimize your energy levels and reconnect the brain synopsis. Other exercises such as Pilates, Tabata, and anything else that includes an isometric hold and nervous system training is great to enhance the brain's memory and function.

Enjoy the Seasons of Life

"Don't beat yourself up if you're going through a season."

As we go through life, we strive to do it all and as hard as we might try, it's impossible to do everything at once. We all go through different seasons or stages of life that come and go as soon as we begin to experience them.

Maybe you've already experienced the seasons of beginning college, a career, or your own family? Each season is different and has it's ups and downs that can create stress within the body and mind.

To gain more energy and peace of mind, focus on enjoying and respecting that season. Take your time and be easy on yourself.

You might have to adjust your schedule and habits according to that season, but that doesn't mean you can stop focusing on your health or what is important to you. Know your triggers and what's going to crush your energy.

Turn to Positive Thinking

Because our body is one big puzzle piece, not only are our organs, cells, and brain connected, but our hormones and genetics as well. In fact, our genetics and thoughts give us this amazing power to structure our environment when we turn on the right genes and think positively.

But what happens if negative thoughts creep up and block us from achieving high performance? Dr. Matt Accurso has this great system to help him create positive thoughts.

If he feels a negative thought comes into his head when he wakes up first thing in the morning, he doesn't get up until he's replaced it with a positive thought in his mind. What does he think about?

He turns to thoughts of gratefulness while maintaining a breathing pattern until he feels enough joy and happiness that those negative thoughts have disappeared.

If you're experiencing negative thoughts, I encourage you to try this method. I know I will!

"What's amazing is that knowing your health data can only help you. There's never been anyone that hasn't benefited or been harmed by knowing more about their cholesterol, thyroid function, inflammation, or Vitamin D levels. You can only benefit from a blood test."- Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi

How much can your blood panels reveal about your health? This week, author, physician, and Medical Director at WellnessFX, Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi, talks about the importance of blood tests and explains how a personalized analysis can make your physical and emotional health bulletproof.

Make Your Health Bulletproof

We all know that knowledge is power. Therefore, to fully understand where our health stands and to become bulletproof, we need to look at the entire picture. Maybe you don't feel good and don't know why?

Thanks to blood tests, we can learn more than we ever could before about our personal health. With this knowledge, we're given the opportunity to make necessary life changes to feel better each day and prevent disease in the future.

A blood test can tell you so much about your biomarker levels and organ functions. Take advantage of this valuable information and make good, healthy changes in your life.

Take Advantage of Blood Tests

As we evolve as a society, we're becoming more aware of the importance of our health. With all of the benefits that blood tests give us, we can lead healthier lives.

Taking a blood test may sound scary if you think about needles and having your blood drawn. However, the process is simple and can help you learn so much about your body and mental health.

Even if you're a very healthy person, a blood test can show some surprising information about yourself and alert you about any health concerns.

How Often Should You Take a Blood Test?

How often you should have a blood test done depends on your health concern or motive. If you want to take charge and find the perfect wellness combination for you, Dr. Khaleghi recommends having a blood test done every 6 months to 1 year until you reach your health goal.

Overall, with the help of a blood test, you can make better decisions concerning your nutrition, fitness, sleep, and mental health.

Understand Your Unique Health

"One of the best features of a service like WellnessFX is the opportunity to really get your individualized feedback and adjust accordingly. The health adjustments that were right for me may not be right for everyone else. We all vary genetically."- Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi

An ordinary blood test can provide us with general information that is difficult to understand. Fortunately, one of the best things about a personalized blood test is that a personalized consultation is provided to explain the results and recommend what steps to take next on your wellness journey.

Each and every single one of us is genetically different. Thus, our bodies need different amounts and forms of nutrition, exercise, and health care.

A personalized blood test will give you insight into several health factors, including:

  • Blood health
  • Cholesterol
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Cortisol
  • Thyroid function
  • Inflammation
  • Vitamin D
  • Blood sugar
  • Insulin
  • Organ health (livers, kidney)

Whether you want just an overall view of your health or focus on something specific such as athletic performance, blood analysis organizations like WellnessFX offer different types of blood tests

Improve Your Mental Health

"It's very interesting that emotional health seems to be both an effect and a cause of our health markers. By making yourself healthier, you improve your mental health. By improving your mental health, you make yourself healthier."- Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi

From nutrition to exercise, knowing more about your health means that you can make better choices for yourself each day. As Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi explains during the podcast, living a healthy lifestyle becomes a positive feedback loop for both your body and mind.

By focusing on improve health basics such as eating better, exercising more, sleeping soundlessly, and taking more Vitamin D, you're improving your overall health and wellness.

When your physical health improves, so does your emotional health.

"Money is just an exchange of energy. The challenge with money is when we do not have a healthy relationship with money and that's where we usually deflect it."- Ryan Yokome

What do you think about when you hear the word, "money?"  What do you feel when you receive your monthly paycheck? Do you have happy thoughts and feeling of relief and relaxation? Or do you have negative thoughts and feel anxious with worry?

Today, CEO of Money & Miracles Breakthrough Coaching and the Co-Founder of the Soulful Money MasterclassRyan Yokome, shares how we can tap into our own lives to discover and  embrace the currency of wellness

Change Your Mindset on Money

"When you know who you are and you know yourself and you're comfortable with that, you can go anywhere and do anything because you don't have to be someone that you're not. You can show up as you and it's so liberating and freeing."- Ryan Yokome

Each of us has a personal story with money and it begins with our background and our parents' relationship with money. Whether or not their relationship with money was good, if they said something about money or had a certain attitude and behavior towards it, we picked up on that when we were younger.

Fortunately, their experience with money does not have to be the same as our story and relationship with money. To help us change our own money story, Ryan explained the concept of Be-Do-Have and its reversal pattern, Have-Do-Be.

A majority of us believe that there is a lack of money. However, it is an abundant source of energy that is always available to us. All we have to do is change our thinking and approach to money and do reverse thinking with Have-Do-Be.

First believe that you already have the money that you need. Next, do something differently that will allow you to receive that money and finally become that person who has the money.

Focus on the Essence of Money

"How you tap into a different space of magnetizing money in your life is how you focus on the essence. You focus on the feeling that money will give you if you had those things now. What's the essence? Would you feel more joy, happiness, relaxed? Cause you're not actually after money, but a feeling. "-Ryan Yokome

The key to help you change your mindset on money is to focus on the essence of money and what it means to you.

How do you feel if you imagine that you already have all the money or monthly paycheck that you need to get to where you want to be? Is it happiness? Relaxation? Success?

You don't want money, but a feeling. The feeling that money gives you. As soon as you focus on that feeling, you will change what you do because your actions will be different and you'll become a different person during that process.

You want to put all these feelings about money on the table and process the feeling to help make the unconscious conscious. What's your story with money? Is it your story or your family's story?

Tap Into The 5 Positive Money Beliefs

"The currency of wellness is connection."- John W. Travis, MD, MPH

To experience the positive mindset change of currency, Ryan explained the 5 Positive Money Beliefs:

1) Meaning

Money is neutral and we are the ones who give it energy and meaning. You can actually experience how your life is changing depending on how you approach money.

Money gives meaning when you notice external changes such as where you live, what possessions you have, what food you eat each day etc.

People will also give you clues that money is changing your life because they will notice it too. They will notice that there is something different about you.

Lastly, because we can change the energy and meaning that money gives us, you decide what your money story is and will be.

Life is not based on luck or genes, but the choices that we make and that creates our money story.

2) Relationships

Treat money as if it were a person. Now, how would you treat money if you were dating it? How do you treat it when you log into your online bank account or when you get paid? Does it give you happiness or cause you stress?

3) Purpose

What is the purpose of money for you? Why do you want to make more money and what do you want to do with it?

If you're not giving money a purpose or being intentional with it, then you're not connecting with it. Ryan gave a great example that you connect with your money when you pay your bills because that money helps pay the salaries of the employees of the other business.

When you give your money a purpose, you tap into the essence of it and how it makes you feel.

4) Giving

Ryan believes that if you give to another person, that you're actually giving back to yourself as well. So if you shift into a different state of love and abundance, you pass that feeling on to other people.

Giving the genuine feelings of love and abundance to others is just what many of us need to feel that excitement and purpose for life that we crave.

Give compliments, a smile, or a "Have a nice day!" with real feeling the next time you're at the check out counter.

5) Receiving

For many of us, it is so much easier to give than to receive because we haven't learned how to receive love. Past relationships and experiences have caused us to feel like we didn't receive the love that we wanted or needed.

Because of this, it can be hard to receive love from others or we don't know why other people are tryitng to give us love. Especially in a world of technology, we are starving for true connection with other people, but we don't know how to accept it when it's given to us.

When we receive money from work or as a gift from another person, we can practice receiving love and abudance from another source. This source that will help us buy food, pay for a home, and use to help us get to where we want to be in life.

  • The three things we need to take massive action towards our dreams

Self Love, Juicing, & Transformation

From Drews MindBodyGreen post: "I've come to realize that one of the biggest obstacles preventing people from achieving a transformation is their failure to answer one simple question: "Why?"

"Why do I want it?"

Too many people float through life with no rhyme or reason as to what they hope a transformation will do for them. They might know "what" they want, but they often don't know why they want it.

It's painful for many people, but I'm here to tell you, it doesn't have to be. Here's the deal. The leading motivation that will fuel your transformation is your answer to one simple question.

"Why do I want it?"

It's crucial that you know the answer. Treat it like it's your best friend. Keep feeding it. This is the most important thing, because when you don’t feel like eating healthy or working out, your answer will remind you why you started in the first place. Often, it's all the motivation you need to complete your transformation."

Drew's Story

"My parents taught us that money didn't make the person and that a true persons value came from their heart and what they did for others.” - Drew Canole

Fueled by small-town values and a big vision for a better planet, Drew Canole begins each day with one simple goal in mind – to positively impact the lives of others. Through his work as a Personal Coach and endeavors such as EnrichYourExistence.com and FitLife.tv, Drew aims to inspire and motivate others to search deep within themselves to create an abundant, healthy and fulfilling life. "Improve one life; improve the world."

Drew was born and raised in the small, rural community of Lake City in Northern Michigan. After attending Central Michigan University, he launched a successful career in finance before recognizing that his greatest talent was helping others discover their untapped potential. He currently resides in San Diego, where his work as an author, fitness specialist and transformation expert has made him one of the most reputable Personal Coaches in Southern California.

Drew is committed to the conviction that people are at their best when challenged. He pushes others to bust through personal barriers and reach new heights in physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Coming To Life

"I'm just focused on what brings me to life. And me coming to life, when people see that, that's magic. Not only are they inspired in that moment and want to drink green juice, but they also start to see what's possible with who they are in themselves." - Drew Canole

"I am Drew Canole. I could delve into a list of my accomplishments and accolades, highlighting my tenure as a successful entrepreneur and Internet marketer, but I’ll spare you. Time is precious. Instead, I shall use this time to hopefully touch your soul and shift it for eternity. You see, most people live their whole lives doing something that they are not really “here to do.” For anybody who feels pulled, who feels the whole world is smiling at them, I offer guidance. For those who have found their flow or are working on their muse, I offer this – do it.

Drew Canole is merely a name that has been given to me. Today is a day like any other day in my life. My purpose is far greater than any 10 letters, and my days are devoted to helping people discover a life they never realized existed. My dream and my hope is much bigger than the physical man that I am. If you feel like you are here for a purpose, contact me. If you need help discovering what that purpose is, I am interested in hearing about the "real" you. After all, the world needs more people like us.

I am Drew Canole. Who are you?"

Facebook Questions From Today's Show

From Shannon:

"Two of the biggest transformations in my life thus far required a stripping away of relationships that were holding me back or keeping me small, but I imagine that the opposite can be true - that deep, spiritual connection in relationship can spark a transformation as well.

I'd love to hear Drew's viewpoint on the power of relationship in catalyzing personal transformation. I'd also love to know how he strikes a balance when it comes to transformation - that desire to go deep within, which perhaps could be construed by others as being "selfish" or too focused on the self, versus being in relationship, which can sometimes feel like a distraction from the transformation itself.

Is there a middle ground, and if so, what are his viewpoints in finding that center?"

From Shanna:

"I’d love to know how Drew achieves BALANCE in his life. With all I have going on, I sometimes feel like I put all my eggs in one basket and then another area of my life suffers."

More About Drew

Darryl Edwards is a Movement Coach, Natural Lifestyle Educator and creator of the Primal Play Method;™ developed to inspire others to make activity fun while getting healthier, fitter and stronger in the process.

"Primal Play is about making fitness fun and ensuring that the individual can experience the joy of movement again. Many of us have fallen out of love with movement, and we focus on fitness or exercise which then becomes pain and punishment as the way to get fit. What we should be thinking about is what we can enjoy that will get us there, rather than what we must endure to get fit." - Darryl Edwards

Finding The Joy of Movement

Darryl's journey of paleo and natural movement began over ten years ago when he had iron-deficiency anemia, hypertension, and 26 percent body fat. He felt weak, lethargic, and suffered from insomnia along with debilitating lower back and knee pain. It didn’t take long after focusing on the Paleo approach to reap the benefits, and his improved health continues to this day.

To eventually lead thousands of people by teaching the joy of movement across the world, Darryl first had to feel the pain of physical discontent early in life.

Sitting for hours on end in his banking career, he began to train as most of us start training: in the gym and bored out of his mind. He intuitively felt from deep in his core that there must be a better way to live life well and attain the health and wellness he knew he deserved.

This is a sad reality that many gym goers, marathoners, and weekend warriors discover once their "no pain no gain" mentality simply can't support the lifestyle any longer. Listen as Darryl unpacks how anyone and everyone can learn to experience the joy of movement wherever they are and whatever health goals they might have.

Movement Breakthroughs

What  sparked radical change in Darryl's life was essentially finding the joy of play;  a reconnection to his childhood and the memories that brought happiness.

This discovery would come to be the catalyst for greater health in his own adult life.

In the video below from the ancestral health symposium in 2016,  Darrell discusses  his primal play method,  what it means to have physical health,  how to transform the current paradigm of exercise and fitness,  and gives an incredible lecture on physical activity for the new era.

What You'll Learn From This Episode

  • Why your body is in pain and what to do about it
  • How to make your workouts fun again no matter who you are
  • How to turn your workouts into play
  • The benefits of training in primal movement patterns
  • The differences between "paleo" fitness and regular fitness and exercise
  • Action steps to begin the integration of movement as play
  • Darryl's story about how he transitioned from working out in gyms to 100% functional movement

"In my life I've done a lot of physical things like marathons, challenge races and weight training, but vipassana was one of the hardest things I've ever done because it was so dependent purely on the mind. When we work out and go through physical pain, you can push through it because there's a stimulus there. When you sit in silence, the hardest part about it is that's there is nothing else to do besides face your thoughts, face your feelings, and face what's going on inside." - Josh Trent

Vipassana Meditation - 10 Days In The Desert of Your Soul

Today's show welcomes fitness and wellness celebrity Scott Colby as our guest host interviewing Wellness Force Founder, Josh Trent, on his 10 day Vipassana meditation experience in Joshua Tree, CA at the Dhamma Southern California Vipassana Center .

This episode is for you if you've never meditated in your life and it has always been something you've wanted to try, or even if you're a seasoned meditator looking for that next step on how to grow your life's practice.

We're also going to discuss Scott Colby's partnership with Pencils of Promise and his incredible service to Guatemalan children schools through the "say it with gratitude stationary sets" fund raiser towards the end of the episode which Wellness Force is honored to support.

Why do hundreds of thousands of people globally complete an annual vipassana?

Most students embark on a vipassana with the intention to achieve greater inner peace and harmony through the mental training of "thought purification" which allows one to face life's tensions and problems in a calm, balanced way. Vipassana meditation, essentially, is a practice of what founder Mr. S.N. Goenka calls "The Art of Living" that one can use to get out of their own way to begin making greater positive contributions in society.

This may sound empowering and healing, which many studies report to be true, but be warned: this practice is not for everyone, rather it is only for the one who feels called to it at the right time in their life.

As Yogi & Best-selling Author Karan Bajaj says: "Just sitting with your spine erect for eleven hours a day can be a challenge, now add complete silence and two sparse meals a day to it, and you’re guaranteed some level of physical and emotional agony."

Why You Get To Do A Vipassana

Meditation is a essentially a practice that teaches focusing attention inwards. This could be done with a mantra, breathing techniques, or by using visualizations. There are numerous ways to practice meditation, and all of them center around becoming more self aware.

The main difference of vipassana however is found in its technique of "body scanning" that students learn through a process of relaxation without the normal stimuli of instant gratification it has become so accustomed to and even in some cases, addicted to.

In an era filled with the weapons of mass distraction, vipassana arms students with the tools they can use to rise above mindless actions in our modern world.

Because of the long durations of sittings in the training, vipassana allows the student to discover powerful insights about the subconscious roots of their unresolved anger, discontent, and other emotional issues. Once these issues can be seen, felt, and worked through in silence, a new mental narrative can be spoken which helps to lower overall stress and anger while boosting future emotional balance and mental health.

Vipassana training is also helpful in maintaining emotional balance, treating neurosis, and other unhealthy emotional conditions.

The foundation of the vipassana practice is sīla — moral conduct. Sīla provides a basis for the development of samādhi — concentration of mind; and purification of the mind is achieved through paññā — the wisdom of insight.

Benefits of vipassana include:

  • Lowered blood pressure
  • Reduced cortisol levels
  • Corrected circadian rhythm
  • Increased body awareness leading to lifestyle change
  • Increased mental faculties for memory, cognition, and decision making
  • Insights on how to let go of existential stressors
  • The formations of new healthy habits
  • Increased patience and persistence in the tasks of everyday life

"I became interested in this vipassana journey about 4 months ago after interviewing Karan Bajaj on the podcast and felt the pull to go to the desert for the 10 days of silent meditation. When I arrived and sat for the first night, I quickly felt just how intense and demanding these 10 days would be." - Josh Trent

The Benefits of Delayed Gratification

In our current society, where smart phones and calendars rule, if we're not paying attention, it is far too easy to become a slave to the mind.

By intentionally practicing the art of delayed gratification with Vipassana, students begin noticing the difference in thought processes where they can consciously control the directions of which the Amygdala sends its impulses.

Beyond just the physical challenges of sitting in silence for 100+ hours in 10 days on the body, the long stillness and silence also supports the growth of new synapses where increased mental toughness, patience, and delayed gratification can further develop.

Benefits of practicing delayed gratification include:

  • Increased happiness
  • Improvements in practicing gratitude
  • Greater financial habits and health
  • Improved physical health
  • Higher levels of appreciation

“One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery of oneself.” — Leonardo da Vinci

A Spartan Race For The Mind

For the 10 days of the course, all students agree to maintain "noble silence" which includes refraining from talking, exercising, looking at other students, and communicating by hand gestures with other students. With the removal of all stimuli, the metaphor of vipassana is like "a spartan race for the mind."

As Josh Trent says:

"By day 7 - I had had enough.  7 grueling days of going through what felt like excruciating pain with a numbness in my butt and a stabbing in my hips I'd never experienced before.

The 4am wake up gong at my window. Two hours of meditation before a breakfast of oatmeal.

The strict daily routine in the confined environments. No writing, reading, or exercise.

There were around 100+ of us sitting in a dimly lit meditation hall sun up to sun down.

The distractions of modern life—phones, work, movies, music, — all gone.

All that is left do do is sit for 7-10 hours a day in total silence and breathe.

I glanced around and could see I wasn't the only one struggling.

I had a few really bad days on 3 and 5, and on day 7 my only solace was living hour by hour.

Among the pain, there were moments, sometimes even a 30 minute blocks where I felt waves of compassion and love so profoundly, that I almost didn't know how to deal with them.

But I did.

And when I emerged on the other side after the 10 days, I left the center with a clean mind, immense gratitude for life, and love and compassion for family, friends, an colleagues like never before." - Josh Trent

"The point of identifying emotion and navigating emotion is not to hold on to it, but to be able to recognize it and to understand that it's trying to tell us something." - Jeff Agostinelli

It's easy to get ahead of ourselves and allow our emotions to control our lives, but that's not the purpose of our emotions.

Our emotions are the tools we need to help us break through from chronic thinking.

This week, Life Coach, Business Coach, and Podcast Host of The Next Level, Jeff Agostinelli, shares how we can take advantage of our emotions to truly listen to ourselves in order to think clearly, rediscover joy, and be free from pain.

Break the Cycle of Chronic Thinking

"A lot of people will try to reach out and they're stuck in a pattern of thought. We have an emotion and then there's a thought, there's an action, there's a behavior, there's a habit and they're all connected. Who's to say that we can't just move one of those things around and everything else will change?"- Jeff Agostinelli

When we're feeding into our emotions, we can find ourselves stuck in connecting thoughts, habits, and behaviors. But what if we try to change something? What then happens to our emotions?

If we try to change something in the way we think or act, it can create a new path for us to follow. We may be afraid of change and think that we can't change our lives. But we can change when we or another person takes a close look at what's going on in our lives.

To help us get started on breaking free from the cycle of chronic thinking, we must start by asking ourselves honest questions such as:

  • Do I really love my environment?
  • Do I really love want I'm doing?
  • Do I really love this relationship?

When we break free from chronic thinking, we get in touch with our emotions and move forward

Tap Into Your Emotions

"The gift inside of pain is the true expression of what the pain is meant to wake us up to. So if we're experiencing pain in a certain moment of our life, it's a momentary thing to let us know, "Okay, look, this thing has got to change." - Jeff Agostinelli

It can be painful and strange to tap into our emotions, but it's the number one thing that we can manipulate and utilize to help us move forward. If we're experiencing pain from outliers such as our environment or other people, we can manipulate what we feel.

We just need to take a close look at the situation to recognize ourselves and what we're feeling. The point of identifying  and navigating emotion is not to hold on to it, but to be able to recognize it and to understand that it's trying to tell us something.

To tap into your emotions. Ask yourself the right questions to help you reach an understanding with yourself.

Don't ask questions such as:

  • Why can't I find a boyfriend/girlfriend?
  • What's going on?
  • Why do they have to be so hard work with?

Ask yourself:

  • Why am I creating these habits?
  • Why do I feel this way?
  • Why did I act like that?

Find Clarity In Your Thoughts

We're constantly evolving so in order to understand our emotions and feelings of pain, we need to re-assess ourselves regularly. When we're starting to feel pain again, we need to look at our top priorities and discover what's missing. We need to take some time give ourselves some self-care and self-love.

Part of this process is to find clarity in our thoughts. Here are three ways that Jeff suggests we find clarity in ourselves:

1. Meditation

Meditation allows us to give our bodies the space that it needs. It really helps us tap into our emotions and break free from chronic thinking.

2. Writing

Writing allows use to get all of those thoughts to get out of our minds and onto the physical piece of paper. This is a much stronger therapeutic practice than just talking about we're thinking because we're putting it into a deeper physical practice.

3. Movement

Movement can be whatever we want it to be-running, dancing, swimming, jumping etc. Movement is the practice that allows our bodies to do what they're meant to do: move. We're not created for sitting or standing all day.

Movement gives your body and mind what it needs to help it calm down.

"Everyone can relate to sitting in a spot and you don't feel like you're supposed to be there and you're meant for something more. You could be 45 years old sitting at a desk in an office and you feel like you're selling yourself short and you've been lying to yourself your whole life about who you are and what you're capable so you're just limiting your dreams." -Jake Ducey

We've all experienced a moment when we're not happy with our life. We've reached a moment when we know we need something else to become who we're truly meant to be. However, it can be difficult to know where to begin and how we can accomplish our goals.

Today,three-timed publish author, speaker, and leader, Jake Ducey, shares how we can create a life that we love.

To get started on living a fulfilling life, Jake will explain how the subconscious mind works to help our intuition, how to identify and own our vibrations, and how to live a life that we love.

Take Advantage of Your Subconscious Mind

To be successful and live a life that you love, it's all about living a life that you feel good about. To do this, you must listen to your own thoughts and senses.

Unfortunately, many people are limited by their mindsets and their emotions are controlling their thoughts. Not only is it important to understand how our thinking process works, but how we can use our subconscious to our advantage.

The unconscious mind is a wonderful thing and it acts as a filtering device for outside reality.

Outside reality can be anything from thoughts about love, body image, money, or career that we hear from other people, the public media, and even Facebook. And these pieces of outside reality create barriers that keep us from listening to our inner reality and intuition.

Once you begin to listen to your intuition and emotions, your inner vibrations can tell you the truths about who you are and who you're meant to be.

Learn to Listen to Your Inner Vibrations

"When you disconnect from your senses, you get in touch with a deeper vision. You can see your life and who you want to be and who you're supposed to be. You can hear the intuition and the soul and the heart speak to you in a faint voice that you can't really hear because the noise of the world is so loud."-Jake Ducey

Thoughts from the outside world can keep us down, but so can our own senses and emotions. When we're controlled by different senses and emotions, we become unfocused. Things that we want like good grades in school or a higher salary send vibrations and senses that control our every move.

By disconnecting from outside noise and really listening to our emotions, we can tune in to what our unconscious thoughts and energy vibrations are telling us. In the end, you come to realize that the truth relies in your own reality.

What creates reality is yourself and not your senses nor vibrations.

Change Your Life with Visualization

"If you hold a vision within yourself, two things can happen: You eventually give up or you start talking to yourself about how it's not going to happen or it's not happening."- Jake Ducey

We think in images, not words. If you can control the images within your head, then you can control your mind and essentially your life.  But sometimes, outside thoughts and images can create roadblocks. These images can be anything from what we see on the news, from social media, to a chat with our coworkers.

Fortunately, you were born with this powerful mind to create whatever you want to create. Don't listen to what other people tell you what you can and can't do.

Visionaries don't accept the outside world and they don't allow it to hold them back from doing what they want to do. You have to think of what you want to think. Don't fill yourself with negativity and everything that's going on in the outside world.

Block out the outer world. focus and believe in your inner world more.

First Steps to Create a Life That You Love

Create a life that you love by setting goals for yourself and give a new meaning to things in your life such as your education or your career.

Another way is to increase your own value and don't change what you do. Stick with your job and work on being more comfortable with yourself and the tasks that go along with your job. You can increase your value and not change what you do by growing your skills and increasing your self-image.

Accomplishments like that can help you grow in your career and start you on a path a position that you love, a new company to work for, or a better salary.

It's not where you are in your career, but the meaning that you give to your career and the value that you create from it.

To move forward in your life, what do you want to create?

People such as Jay-Z, Steve Jobs, the Wright Brothers didn't listen to the outside world. Instead, they were so ambitious and successful because they had these inner visions and images. Their inner world helped them become who they wanted to be and do what they wanted to do with their lives.

"The true spiritual practice is learning to love no matter what. Not when everything is perfect. Not when you feel like loving. This is the layer that we must peel in order to access our soul." - Kute Blackson

On this week’s podcast, best-selling author, speaker, and transformational teacher, Kute Blackson, shares how we can forgive and let go by observing who we are through listening to what our emotions are telling us.

Forgiving and letting go of the past can be two of the hardest things a person may face during their lifetime. Sharing his own personal story of the relationship with his father and how he came the USA, Kute explains how we can be brave and allow our internal compass on the wellness journey can guide us through life.

How To Live Life Itself As Your Spiritual Practice

Living your life means making your own decisions and taking control.

To help us along our wellness journey, look for signs that a path is right for us. This will allow us to be true to ourselves in a way that the universe supports us each stop of the way.

If you feel that a path is not right for you, listen to that gut feeling. Maybe your mind is telling you one thing, but your emotions and feelings are telling you something completely different.

Be Willing To Tell The Truth

"When we live in alignment, then the universe will support us, but it may not look how we always think it will."- Kute Blackson

We have to be willing to by true to ourselves and we can feel that truth in our hearts. Maybe a current job isn't lined up with our morals or beliefs? Maybe we're in a relationship with the wrong person?

At a point in Kute's life, he was following his father's footsteps to take his role, but then he realized that this path was not for him. Kute spent a lot of time observing his thoughts and emotions. He eventually realized that his life was supposed to take him on a different wellness journey.

This wouldn't be the first time that this thought process allowed Kute to come to a revelation of what his mind and body were telling him. With this practice, Kute is continuously learning to let go and accept what path is next for him to follow.

When The Path Is Difficult

Following your path can be so difficult with many obstacles, struggles, and tests. However, just like they did for Kute, these moments prepare us for the people that we should be.

Part of letting go is just allowing yourself to trusting each step of the journey. If we can trust, life will give us what our soul most needs the most right at the very moment in which we need it.

Letting Go of Worry

Why worry so much? Most of the time, we're afraid of what our destiny truly is, and we're afraid that we have to control everything. To let go of worry, we first have to be willing to surrender and trust the process.

When we're children, we're free to be just as we are and we trust right away and express ourselves however we want because we're unconditioned. But as we grow older, we become conditioned. Part of early-life conditioning is believing that we're not free and this keeps us from trusting other people and our own authentic voice.

Breaking Conditioned Responses

Breaking conditioned responses begins once we've taken the honest emotional inventory within ourselves. Conditioning tells us that we're a certain persona and so we try to figure out who we should be. This helps us avoid pain because we feel validated by society because our persona has been accepted.

But we cannot truly break condition responses until we've accepted ourselves.

Part of accepting ourselves is observing our thoughts and emotions.

When we observe ourselves, we begin to stop judging ourselves. And as we practice being the observer, we can break the reinforcements of the previous negative thoughts about who we really are.

"We have over 65,000 thoughts a day and most are the same as yesterday. Your thoughts are not real, your thoughts are just energy. Your thoughts aren't the issue. The importance you give your thoughts is the real issue." - Kute Blackson

6 Essential Practices For Living A Healthy & Fulfilling Life

Listen as David uncovers how over 20 years of coaching experience lead him to create The most powerful practices for a healthy and fulfilling life, including:

  • Generosity - Helps us to let go of the past and release obstructions without focusing on them. Generosity makes our goals more powerful by giving them a greater purpose than our own self interest, and brings greater abundance into our lives.
  • Integrity - Helps us to not create new obstructions that impede our progress. It allows us to learn lessons about the intensity and frequency of our vicious cycles, and the negative consequences that we experience because of them. It also brings more intimacy and connection into our lives.
  • Patience - Helps us to not take our current obstructions and blow them out of proportion, making them even bigger barriers to progress. In fact, lack of patience does the opposite of progress– it turns our mountains into molehills. Brings more growth and transformation into our lives.
  • Inspired Action - Helps us to cultivate more of what we really want in our lives, rather than trying to move us away from what we don't want. It also brings more joy and fulfillment into our lives.
  • Mindfulness - Helps to free us from attachments that keep us feeling stuck in life. It is the inner essence and the common thread of all of the previous practices, and as necessary in order for them to be powerful and effective. It also allows us to experience true freedom.
  • Commitment - It is the outer container that gives shape and direction to all the previous practices. It also gives us the ability to stick with the other practices long enough for them to blossom and have a noticeable effect on our lives.

"This is not like any other nutrition program you've ever stumbled across. You have to think about it differently in terms of it being just one part of a lifelong cycle." - Melissa Hartwig

Pushing Your Reset Button With Your Health, Habits, & Relationship With Food

On this week's podcast, you’ll learn from an exceptional woman who has dedicated her life to driving real transformations in physical and emotional wellness. In this hour, together we’ll discover the connections between your emotions and healthy habits to live your best life and enjoy the process.

Sparking real, sustainable transformation and creating food freedom begins when we do the emotional inventory with ourselves. This can be a tricky process when starting out, especially when taking the honest look at how we're showing up in our relationship with food is the only way through.

But there's science behind why we get stuck, and how we can change. It happens when we're hungry and open to the right answers.

As Melissa writes in her first book, It Starts With Food:

"Ancient signals in a modern world: Food scientists have engineered chemicals in processed foods that light up the reward centers in the brain for a different reason than nature intended- not because they provide vital nutrition, but because they are scientifically designed to stimulate our tastes buds."

About Melissa Hartwig

Melissa Hartwig is a Certified Sports Nutritionist who specializes in helping people change their relationship with food and create life-long, healthy habits. She is the co-creator of the original Whole30 program, the New York Times bestselling author of The Whole30 and It Starts With Food. Melissa has been featured by Dr. Oz, Good Morning America, the Wall Street Journal, Details, Shape, Outside, and SELF.

Melissa has also presented more than 150 health and nutrition seminars worldwide, and provides support to more than 1.5 million people a month through the Whole30 website.

"We're often told that it's selfish to take care of yourself first, but I look at it as an act of radical self love. I set boundaries in my life so that I am healthy, happy and so that I flourish in my life and I have more to give to everyone else." - Melissa Hartwig

Melissa's New Book: Food Freedom Forever

Letting Go of Bad Habits, Guilt, and Anxiety Around Food

End the yo-yo dieting cycle… forever. Welcome to the Food Freedom plan.

Millions of people have successfully completed the groundbreaking Whole30 program and radically transformed their energy, sleep, cravings, waistline, and health. Now, Food Freedom Forever offers real solutions for anyone stuck in the exhausting cycle of yo-yo dieting and the resulting stress, weight gain, uncontrollable cravings, and health complaints. In her newest book, best-selling author Melissa Hartwig defines true “food freedom” as being in control of the food you eat, instead of food controlling you.

quotatoin-marksFood Freedom Forever gives you everything you need for achieving dietary success, for today and for the rest of your healthy life. Melissa Hartwig’s information is spot on in terms of its scientific validity, and wonderfully approachable in terms of its implementation. — DAVID PERLMUTTER, MD, Author, #1 New York Times Bestseller, Grain Brain

"Food is what you are, and you are what you eat. Food serves multiple purposes. On one hand, it's to nourish your body with physical things that it needs, but you can also use food to soothe emotions, avoid emotions, as entertainment, or when you feel sad. It allows for a certain degree of emotional manipulation." - Tony Federico

Food is an important part of our everyday life, but sometimes we allow unhealthy, processed foods to manipulate our bodies' health and emotions. Unfortunately, eating healthy is not always an easy switch to make with big multinational corporations selling and promoting foods everywhere we look.

However, we have the ultimate power to make the decision to decide what we eat every day. Take a moment look inside yourself and ask if your relationship with food is a healthy one. It's okay to admit that it's not a healthy relationship and that you're ready for a change in your life.

On this week's podcast, host of the Paleo Magazine Radio podcast, Tony Federico, shares with us how he overcame an unhealthy relationship with food and how making a goal to live a more Paleolithic lifestyle has transformed his body and his life.

How To Create A Healthy Relationship With Food

As humans that operate from the reptilian brain, what do we ultimately need to thrive?

We need real food.

Take a moment to think about where our ancestors found their source of food. It wasn't from the processed food section from the grocery store, but from real foods like fruits, nits, seeds, vegetables and different meats.

If you are what you eat, then your relationship with food can say a lot about whether you are tuned in with your body or not.

Tony himself struggled for quite some time to create a healthy relationship with food. At one point, he found himself in a cycle of doing unhealthy amounts of exercise and eating processed foods that he believed to be healthy. In looking back on his lifestyle, Tony discusses on the show how his obsession of eating healthy food was called Orthorexia nervosa before it even existed.

To create a healthy relationship with food, Tony shares how we first get to understand how it helps our body. How all of natural foods' nutrients, vitamins, and more give you the energy and strength to live a healthy life each day.

Feeding Yourself From A Place of Love & Abundance

"Maybe my body is not the enemy. Maybe I can work with this thing if I understand it."- Tony Federico on the Paleo Diet

What does your life balance look like right now? Maybe the mix includes:

But is everything balanced evenly? What areas do you dedicate your time to the most? Which areas are healthy and which are unhealthy?

If your health and nutrition are not at the best place that they can be, you may have to change your daily nutrition. For Tony, going Paleo helped him to rethink the benefits of food and a healthy lifestyle.

To give your body the love and abundance that it needs to stay healthy, real food can help give you the right mindset and positive energy that you need in your life. If you're eating unhealthy, it can throw you off balance in all six areas of your life.

Reach Your Goals With Reverse Engineering

One method to help you complete a goal is to do it via "reverse engineering."

Reverse engineering goals is when you pick a specific goal and decide what types of systems, people, and environment you can put into place to help you reach that goal.

As part of the goal, you need to have a base number, but it's very important that you have zero judgement towards that number. For example, if you want to lose 20 pounds and your base start number is 200 pounds. Don't judge that number because it will only lead to negative thinking. Instead, use it to help you see the results that you want.

Next, do your homework to start planning and creating a strategy. Be responsible and have the will and commitment to do it. Even if your plan isn't working,  think about what can you do to change it so that it does work? The slightest tweak can help you get to the goal that you want to complete if you have the willpower to complete it.

"The quality of our sex life is a direct reflection of our internal health."-Bob Schwenkler

On this week's podcast, trained life coaches and founders of Sex the Podcast, Natalie Vartanian and Bob Schwenkler, join me to talk about relationships, sex, and wellness.

Since joining forces as a power couple in 2015, Natalie and Bob have been the secret sexual weapon for successful men from all walks of life. They’ve helped many people from former Army Sniper Instructors, Online Marketing Experts, to Corporate Airline Pilots from across 3 continents unlock the next level of joy and confidence in their sex lives and relationships.

Meeting someone new and beginning a romantic relationship with them can create one of the most exhilarating feelings that you will experience during your lifetime. However, your emotional wellness plays a huge part in not only your health and fitness, but also your sex life. Past relationships and experiences can really effect new relationships, who you are, and who you want to become.

Each time you begin a new relationship with someone, it's important to address anything that's going on with yourself.

If you're emotionally unsteady because you have bottled up feelings of anger, sadness, and trauma on the inside, not only will it show up in your daily fitness and wellness health, but in your personal relationships and sex life as well.

To have a healthy sex life, you need to be healthy on the inside by addressing any hidden issues or baggage that you may be carrying with you.

How to Recognize and Share Your Personal Feelings

In a relationship, it's important to recognize how you feel and not to ignore those feelings. Ask yourself, what do you want in a relationship? What do you want for your sex life? What do you want for your career and the rest of your life?

For you to be able to recognize your feelings and open up to your partner about your wants and desires, you should first become intimate with yourself. You can do this by giving yourself self-care and self-love.

Begin by slowing down and taking a moment to understand what is going on with you. Try to be in the present and recognize what emotions you're feeling right now. Come back to yourself and be honest with what you want and need.

Learn To Understand Your Partner's Love Language

When you understand yourself better, you can learn to listen to your partner better as well. However, miscommunication or no communication can still happen throughout a relationship. Fortunately, coaches like Natalie and Bob can help you can fix that by using strategies and tools to help open up and improve communication with your partner.

These communication tools can help you both to understand each other's love language, what your desires are, and how you can recreate something in your relationship.

To understand your partner's love language, it may mean unpacking any baggage and talking about issues that you haven't even discussed about in the past.

How to Get Out Of A Shame Spiral

Something that can keep us back from having a fulfilling relationship and sex life is the shame that we feel for ourselves. This shame spiral can happen to us when we don't feel good in our own bodies or the person that we are.

If you're feeling shameful, it could be happening because you're in a constant pattern of avoidance. This pattern occurs when we're stuck in an unhealthy routine that doesn't allow us to find out what's really going on with ourselves.

This pattern of avoidance could include having lots of unfulfilling sex, drinking, working a lot, spending time on social media, or even just rational thinking.  Rational thinking mode is a thought addiction and surprisingly enough, over-thinking will keep you from having connected, fulfilling relationships.

To have a better sex life, you should look deep inside yourself and have an internal inquiry. Ask yourself what's holding you back from having great sex and even other experiences such as an amazing life or career?

To help you truly escape this shame spiral and begin having fulfilling relationships and great sex, reach out to sources of support and help if you must do so.

Don't Be Afraid To Reach Out For Help

If you're struggling with your emotions and your shame spiral is keeping you from connecting with your partner, don't be afraid to reach out for help.

Because we're only human, we can't take this journey all by ourselves. Talk to close friends about what you're going through and maybe they've been through the same obstacles. Ask someone to be your accountability partner to help hold you responsible for the goals that you want to accomplish.

Spend time with like-minded people in person or virtually online with different communities. Seek professional help by reaching out to therapy groups such as the ManKind Project or life coaches like Natalie and Bob. They can give you the support, strategy, and the tools that you need to help you live a fulfilling sex life with your partner.

"Do the thing and you'll have the power."-Ralph Waldo Emerson

On this week’s podcast, floating and sensory deprivation expert, Glenn Stokoe, shares his personal experience with meditation and why floating creates the perfect environment to deepen a mediation practice that helps the body and mind to recover, align and fully relax.

"We store so much energy, not only in our psychology, but in our muscular skeletal system that when we float, our body gets to unwind and just finally take that breath it's been craving so much." - Joe Rogan

Meditation has been studied for centuries as a powerful tool that supports us in letting go of what doesn't serve our growth.

With traditional meditation however, it can take years to reach the clarity and inner peace we desire. With a new modality of healing called "floating," you can reach a state of ultimate relaxation with just a few sessions.

Science is also proving that the burgeoning field of sensory deprivation through floating can be a powerful way to heal the mind and body alike.

Floating is not only a great empowering tool to help lift our spirits and clear our thoughts, but it is also fun and can allow us to bring more creativity into our lives.

Whether you suffer from stress, cloudy thinking, or chronic pain, floating is for everyone and it can help us let go of everything in order to simply just "be."

The Science of Letting Go

As the founder of Float North County in San Diego, California, Glenn has helped numerous athletes and spiritual seekers recover from pain and clear their minds.

Since his first float in 2013, Glenn's personal exploration in floating has included completing sessions that have lasted up to 3 hours and his own 30 day journey of floating and meditation.

If you want to recover from chronic pain, improve your athletic performance, or re-energize your mind and body, floating can help you rediscover yourself and let go of anything that is holding you back.

What is a Float Studio?

At a float studio, the floating experience takes place in an enclosed space that looks similar to a large hot tub. The floating tank is about 8 feet long by 5 feet wide and can be between 5-7 feet in height. The tank is filled with 1,1oo pounds of Epsom salt which is made up of magnesium sulfate that allows you to float effortlessly in just 11 inches of water.

The water's temperature is set to match the temperature of your skin so that you're completely balanced and it feels like you're floating in almost nothing.

A lot of people who are claustrophobic may be hesitant to try floating, but once they're in the large tank, they find that they feel fine in the water. Floating effortlessly in warm water in an enclosed space can bring a lot of comfort to us.

In addition, the Epsom magnesium salts keeps you completely buoyant so it's very easy to float and just let go of everything that you're feeling. You don't have to worry about water getting on your face or into your eyes.

Watch the video with Wellness Force Founder, Josh Trent, as he interview Glenn Stokoe live at the float studio!

Floating studios are for anyone and everyone. However, the people who benefit from them the most can include athletes and people who suffer from chronic pains or varying forms of stress and anxiety.

When you're in float tank, you're in an environment where you're not affected by gravity and you're absorbing all the magnesium from Epsom salts. This is perfect to help your body recover and relax.

Many professional teams including the Golden State Warriors and the Chicago Cubs now have their own float tanks. They have found that floating helps their athletes visualize for upcoming games, recover fast from injuries, and help re-evaluate what they did during the last game to make a real mind and body connection.

According to Glenn, these float tanks can be your best, personal, development tool because you can easily listen to your mind and body. If you can learn to be sensitive and  pay attention to what is going on with your body, then it can alert you to whether or not a future injury may happen and you can actively prevent it from occurring.

How Much Time Should You Spend in a Float Tank?

According to Glenn, 90 minutes is the perfect amount of time to spend in a float tank. Now you may be asking yourself, "Isn't 90 minutes a lot of time to spend all  by yourself in just water?"

To help you get into a state of complete relaxation, 90 minutes is key to allow your body and mind to reach a circadian state of rhythm (at 45 minutes). When you first try floating, 90 minutes may seem like a lot, but some people actually prefer and benefit from floating for over 2.5 hours.

Depending on why you attend floating sessions and whether it's for chronic pain or anxiety and stress, how often you go during the first sessions can differ from person to person. If you float for chronic pain, it's recommended that you go 8-9 times over the course of 3 weeks. If you float for anxiety and stress, you should go 6-7 times over 2 weeks for results.

Once you've gotten into a rhythm of spending time in a floating tank, you don't have to go as often, but  you should try to go on a regular basis for ongoing results that can benefit your life. This may be anywhere from 2 times a week to once a month depending on your reason for going and how much you need it.

How Can Floating Help You to Let Go?

"Consciousness is knowing that we're a force and we get to direct our force by choice." - Josh Trent

According to Glenn, it's natural that the first float won't be the most productive float for you. Your thoughts can be in another place because everything is so new and you're brain is so focused on taking it all in. However, each time you float, you'll be able to relax your body and mind faster to reach a higher state of meditation because your brain and body will be accustomed to being in the float tank.

"Negative thoughts can overtake your thinking and your ego can take over because you're amazed by what you're doing, but floating lets you ultimately shut that out completely because all you can hear is your own breath and your heartbeat. Simply letting go is a very big part of the floating experience. You have to enter the float tank knowing that you're not going to control the float, but to just let go." - Glenn Stokoe

Not only have athletes found floating tanks to be extremely helpful, but people who suffer from chronic pain, stress, and symptoms such as PTSD have walked away from their first session feeling amazing.

If you're overloaded by work, many have found that a float tank allows for clearer thinking for ideas. Instead of spending time overthinking about a situation to find a solution, a float tank can naturally help you have new ideas and  "aha" moments because you've allowed yourself to let go.

"How can we create as human beings if we're constantly reacting to what we're receiving and we can't respond to it?" - Josh Trent

Dr. Jade Teta is an integrative physician, naturopath, and personal trainer with over 25 years of experience helping people achieve their health, weight loss, and fitness goals.

If you've been counting calories and exercising as part of a health and wellness program, there can come a time when the scale suddenly stops moving.

But beyond the horizon of the fitness industry's fetish with the scale and dogmatism of "calories in vs. calories out and "eat less, exercise more" lies the truth about what our body really craves:

Our undivided attention to the metabolism.

On episode 067, Dr. Jade Teta stops by the studio with Josh Trent to share his decades of experience working with the human metabolism, and uncover the top 5 metabolic myths that are holding people back from having real health and wellness.

By teaching us how to understand our individual and unique metabolism, Dr. Jade Teta's methods prove how we can keep our bodies, hormones, and energy in check.

Dr. Jade Teta is an integrative physician, naturopath, and personal trainer with over 25 years of experience helping people achieve their health, weight loss, and fitness goals.

He is the founder & CEO of Metabolic Effect Inc., and author of the best-selling book, The Metabolic Effect Diet. He is a regular contributor to many publications, including The Huffington Post, and the Textbook of Natural Medicine, the number one natural medicine textbook used in medical schools across the country.

Jade has completed an estimated 10,000 workouts in his lifetime, and has worked with thousands of weight loss and fitness seekers from all over the world through his Metabolic Effect Clinic and online programs.

The Metabolic Effect

Each person's body is different and therefore, the metabolism of each person is not the same as another's. Dr. Jade learned this the hard way during medical school when his busy schedule was getting in the way of him eating and exercising properly.

After months of continuously gaining weight by consuming unhealthy foods and drinking so-called "healthy" juices from places such as Jamba Juice, Jade had a revelation about metabolism. It was then and there that the theory of the Metabolic Effect was born.

When we're young, our metabolism can be easily calculated, but it's not the same as our bodies change as we age. This is when you need to become a metabolic detective to better understand your body. Discover what foods work for you and what doesn't anymore.

How to Become a Metabolic Detective, Not a Dieter

The difference between being a detective and being a dieter is that a dieter goes by rules. Unfortunately, being a dieter is not the best path to living a healthy lifestyle because all of these rules can really restrict a person as far as their diet and they can feel stuck. Once a dieter is done with one diet and its rules, they just move onto the next one hoping that it will show them the results they want.

To be a detective, you can't follow strict rules of eating only certain foods. Instead, you need to follow guidelines and structured flexibility to help find your best way to approach nutrition.

The first step to becoming a metabolic detective and not a dieter is to understand that everyone's metabolism is different.

Once you know that, you can learn how to keep your metabolism in balance.

How to Keep Your Metabolism in Balance

There are two key ways that you can keep your metabolism in balance. One is HEC and the other is the Golidlocks Zone.

HEC or Hunger Energy Cravings is your body's way of telling you that you're in balance. Your hunger, your energy, and your cravings are there to let you know if your metabolism is in check or not.

HEC biofeedback clues can also include anything from exercise, mood, sleep, digestion, headaches, and libido can also tell us a lot about our hormonal balance.

The Goldilocks Zone is all about balancing the body to make sure that the metabolism is in check. Think of a seesaw that represents your body. This seesaw needs to be perfectly balanced by not taking too much, not taking too little, but just the right  amount of everything including fats, carbohydrates, exercise, stress, sleep etc.

Try to aim for your personal Goldilocks Point by seeing how many carbohydrates you can consume while still being able to show results by working out, getting enough sleep, meditating etc. to keep your HEC in check. You may have to adjust your diet by taking out different foods and adding in new substitutes to help stay balanced.

The 5 Metabolic Myths

During today's podcast, Jade and I spoke about the 5 Metabolic Myths:

1. You'll get sustainable, predictable, linear, and fair results if you follow a guidebook AND The body is able to easily burn fat and build at the same time

The truth: As previously discussed in this blog, all of our bodies are different and you can only truly find results with trial and error to try to keep HEC in check.

The body is only able to easily burn fat and build muscle at the same time if a) you're a beginner to fitness or b) you're taking steroids and other supplements. Once you've been working out constantly, you'll find that your metabolism won't do both at the same time. To burn fat and gain muscle, you need to switch up with different exercises and eating habits.

2. All you need to worry about are calories.

The truth: If you cut calories on purpose, your metabolism will increase your feelings for hunger and increase your metabolic rate.

3. Hormones work in isolation and are either good like human growth hormone or bad like cortisol.

The truth: Metabolism has multiple mechanisms that it overlaps and works with hormones.

4. There is no good way to assess the balance of hormones without blood testing.

The truth: You need to look at different areas including your blood to fully understand your hormones and what your body needs in order to be balanced.

5. The metabolism of leading people and overweight people work in the same way.

The truth:  All of our bodies are different. Each obese person is different and each lean person is resistant.

The 4 METABOLIC TOGGLES

These are 4 quadrants to help keep your HEC in check:

  • ELEL: eat less exercise less
  • ELEM: eat less, exercise more
  • EMEL: eat more, exercise less
  • EMEM: eat more exercise more

“Your greatest difficulty is with yourself; for you are your own stumbling-block. You do not know what you want. You are better at approving the right course, than at following it out. You see where the true happiness lies, but you have not the courage to attain it.” - Roman Philosopher Seneca

Jul 12, 2016

On this week’s podcast, Franz SnidemanSenior Strong First Instructor, Primal Move National Instructor, former Collegiate Sprinter and International Lecturer shares the fundamental importance of educating and coaching clients in safe, healthy and holistic athleticism. Today, Franz talks about how we can add sprinting to our fitness routines and what benefits it includes for both body and mind.

Franz is a student of nutrition, Neuro-Muscular Therapy, Primal Move Kids and Corrective High Performance Exercise Kinesiology. As the co-owner of Revolution Fitness, in La Jolla, CA and the author of several books including Revolution Kettlebell Fat Loss Program, he draws on his passion for healthy living, athleticism, knowledge and appreciation of human development, anatomy and personal experience, to have co-developed what he calls the Primal Speed System.

It can be a strange, new journey to add something to our lives that we are unfamiliar with such as sprinting, but Franz has some great tips for both beginners and born again athletes who are eager to get back into shape.

With each new effort, we can change our own behavior and improve ourselves every day.

Why Should You Include Sprinting In Your Workouts?

Sprinting has many benefits, not just for the body, but for the mind as well.

How many hours did you spend sitting down at your desk today? Most likely you were sitting there for quite some time before you got up and walked around the room. During that time, maybe you got a drink of water, went to a meeting, or stepped outside for some lunch. When you look back on your day, do you think you have had enough physical movement?

If you spend many hours each day sitting at a desk, you will not get the fitness that your body and mind are craving. Maybe you don't have enough time for a long run, swimming, or an hour long fitness class.

Fortunately, the beauty about adding sprinting to your workout is that it's just as viable as any other cardiovascular activities AND it doesn't take too much time.

The Steady Progression to Becoming a Sprinter

So how can you become a sprinter? Sprinting is vital for fitness, but it needs a progression so that your body can adapt to it.  Franz's advice is to do several steps to gear yourself up before adding sprinting to your workout. If you try going to the track without proper preparation and understanding of sprinting mechanics, then you might face a future injury.

To learn how to sprint, you need to go back to the basics of crawling. Crawling is the first mode of locomotion you do before you can even stand and walk. Sprinting is a standing crawl and the final progression of locomotion.

Once you get the hang of crawling, here are Franz's next 3  steps to prepare yourself for a sprint workout:

1. March while standing in place

To connect the brain with the body and get into a rhythm of movement, begin marching while standing in place. By learning the sprinting cadence, you begin to learn important sprinting techniques such as moving on the balls of your feet, foot striking, and landing underneath your body. Try doing this technique for 5 minutes each day.

2. Build the intrinsic and small muscles of the feet.

Prepare your feet and lower legs for sprinting by building the intrinsic and small muscles of the feet by walking on your heels, toes, and the sides of the feet. First, do heel walks (walking on your heels) with the toes pointed upwards towards your shin. This helps to teach your ankles to be stiff and have dorsal flexed feet so that you run on the balls of your feet and not on your toes.

However, for the next exercise, to teach your body how to do a proper push off when you sprint, you need to lean forward on your toes as you walk. You shouldn't be walking on your tip toes, but leaning enough that your knees are straight as you walk.

For the third foot exercise, you need to do an around the world combination of cycling through these next motions. Begin by walking on your tiptoes followed by walking on the outside edges of your feet, the heels, and finally the inside edges of your feet. Cycle through these motions for 30-60 seconds once a day.

3. Create a great posture with shoulder mechanics

To create a great sprinting form, you should have good posture on the upper half of your body. Begin by sitting up straight. Next, simply start moving your arms in the same motion as you would when sprinting. This will help remind you to keep your arms up and in front of you to create momentum.

All of these steps can easily be done from the comfort of your home. After you have practiced each one, put them together for your next sprint workout.

Build Your Body and Mind with Each Sprint

"Regardless of your goals. If you're an endurance athlete, middle distance athlete, maybe just a strength athlete, sprinting will make you more athletic because it will enhance the functioning of your nervous systems and the way that your brain communicates with your body. And that's a good thing." -Franz Snideman

Just like crawling, you find yourself in a cross body pattern and motion as you sprint. This movement actually connects your body to both the left and the right brain hemispheres. Because of this link, your brain works better, you burn more calories, and you build more muscle and nerve tissue.

The brain develops from movement so that when we learn new skills, we end up building new nerve cells and tissues in the brain. People who do a lot of different movements and move really well tend to learn better than people who do not move on a daily basis. Because of this, short term sprinting is good for the brain because it takes you to a whole new level for a couple seconds before you come back to resting mode.

What happens if you over exhilarate yourself when you sprint?

You don't have to worry about over exhilarating yourself because you have central governors in your brain that protect you from overdoing something that can cause harm to the body. For example, right before you reach your fastest speed, your brain will tell your body to stop going too fast should you pull a muscle.

However, this doesn't mean that you should let the central governors from moving and keep growing as a sprinter and athlete. Sprinting actually helps you to break free from the central governors and take your brain up a step.

How does sprinting help you to lose weight?

Sprinting is not only good for the mind, but obviously the body as well to help you deal with glucose and insulin to shred excess fat and calories. If you take a look at professional sprinters, pole vaulters or hurdlers, their training involves high power and short duration sprints to be able to have their athletic physique.

When you add sprinting and other high intensity exercises to your workout, you should include it with a combination of strength training, walking, and an overall healthy lifestyle. With sprinting, you will see a progression overtime and eventually a healthier, more athletic you.

How to Face Your Problems and Fears to Reach Success

On Franz's Facebook page, he wrote this inspiring post:

"Success requires so much more than people can see. Enjoy the highs and the lows, the ups and the downs. It's all part of the process and Journey. Easily earned success is not character building and does not make you stronger. If you can understand that problems are opportunities to grow than you will not want to quickly give away or avoid your problems. Embrace the problems and the challenges as they make you better and more resourceful."

We are all on our own life journeys and we dream of different goals, but to get where we want to be, the pathway is not always easy and sometimes unplanned events can stop us from getting where we want to be in life.

You don't stop growing because there's a problem you're facing. Instead, you really grow by taking on the problem by yourself. Figure out which goals you want to achieve and obstacles to overcome. That way, you can grow emotionally and become a stronger person than your were before. It's fine to reach out for help, but understand your role to take on what needs to be done on your part. Nobody else can walk in your shoes. It's your life and your journey.

Rebecca Hazelton is a licensed Nutritionist, Health Coach, Personal Trainer, and HeartMath Coach running her own consulting business since 2001. This week on Wellness Force Radio, we discuss her latest book, Pleasure Meditation: Your Guide to Joyful Stress Reduction.

Since 2001, Rebecca has been working as a coach and consultant. Throughout her career, she's found that we all face a lack of tools for dealing with stress management.

As a mom, Rebecca is passionate about teaching self-care, how to treat your body with love and respect, and has a nutrition license through AHSU with specialty certifications in Metabolic Typing Nutrition and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition.

Rebecca is also a certified Postural Alignment Specialist with the Egoscue University. Her first of two published books, Choosing Health: A One-Size- Doesn’t-Fit- All Guide to Diet, Exercise, & Motivation is a must-read for anyone interested in living a healthier lifestyle.

Her new eBook Pleasure Meditation: Your Guide to Joyful Stress Reduction has just been released and is a simple 3-minute guide that teaches you exactly how to boost your feelings of pleasure AND melt away feelings of stress.

Letting Go Of Stress

Poor stress management and self-care can lead to other numerous health concerns including fatigue, gut health, thyroid problems, and hormonal imbalance.

Stress can be so hard on the body; sometimes all you need to do is take a deep breath.

But what about taking it further?

Stress reduction tools like pleasure meditation can help you to respond to different situations, feel balanced, and experience joy each day. Today on the podcast, Rebecca shares her own story of experiencing stress and how her F.L.O.W. system of pleasure meditation has helped her to manage it and find greater happiness.

F of F.L.O.W - Focus On Your Breathing

Pleasure meditation can be  very powerful and it's great for those who need it, but don't know where to begin with handling their own stress management.

The F of Rebecca's F.L.O.W. system is to simply begin focusing on your breathing. Take a couple of breaths to feel present in the moment. During that time, find out where your breathing is coming from. If it's not coming from deep within, but rather from your neck and shoulders, you can be dealing with a great amount of stress.

L of F.L.O.W - Let In Love And Let Stress Go

To let love in and let stress go, you need to switch out stressed out hormones with beneficial hormones in your brain to help balance out that body. How can you do this? With the power of vision and memory.

Let in love by thinking about a wonderful memory of when you felt love. It can be an experience from a recent interaction or pleasure from petting a cat or a dog. Allow yourself to remember and embrace those experiences of your life when you let love in in order to let your stress go.

O of F.L.O.W - Open Up With Gratitude

When you open yourself up to feel gratitude and to be thankful for what you have in your life, it's impossible to feel stressed out in that moment of time.

Letting in feelings of love is unique to everyone because of all of our different experiences, but sometimes love itself cannot help us feel gratitude. Feeling gratitude is another layer that can help us to experience pleasure and joy.

W of F.L.O.W - Wake Up Your Pleasure Awareness

To free yourself of stress, try to see the world in new light by waking up your pleasure awareness. When you let in love, you experience gratitude and when you start to appreciate the little things in life, you can wake up your pleasure awareness.

You may begin to see things differently than you ever could before. Maybe colors look brighter, the sun feels warmer, or nature seems more beautiful. With pleasure meditation, you're tapped in to feeling other feelings throughout the day. Think about having your feet on the ground in the moment, but your head in the clouds with other sensations.

Understand Your Stress Better With HeartMath Coaching

A HeartMath Coach can help you better understand the linking connection between how your heart rate and emotions can affect the amount of stress that you feel.

Using the bio feedback device, baseline resilience, you can find out you're heart rate is at and whether you are stressed or not. Each person's baseline resilience number is different and it can help a person determine what causes great or little stress.

With HeartMath Coaching, you can learn to empower your stress and react better to moments when the little things in life stress you out.

On this planet, every minute counts and in order to get the most out of each day of our lives, we have to get in the right mindset to take it head on as best as we can by changing our habits.

Just like a fitness transformation, we need to make specific changes in order to see a mindset transformation. A new mindset transformation won’t only help us beat anxiety, but it will also help us become more goal driven and productive as well.

In order to complete this mindset transformation, we can follow what Craig calls The Perfect Day Formula.

How to Follow the Perfect Day Formula

According to Craig, in order to begin following the Perfect Day Formula, we need to do The 3 C’s each day:

  1. Control the morning
  2. Conquer the afternoon
  3. Concentrate on what really matters

The First C: You have the greatest control of your day during the morning hours.

Before you leave the house, your morning is your time to focus on how you can get ahead in the day. Even if it’s just for 15 minutes before everyone wakes up, you control everything that you do.

Start your day on a positive note to help you feel energized and focused with less stress by reading the newspaper, drinking some coffee, or watching the sunrise. Do anything that will help you clear your mind.

The Second C: Conquer your afternoon with the 5 Pillars of Personal Transformation.

Life is extremely unpredictable and anything can happen at the drop of a hat to  throw us off course from our perfect day. Fortunately, with the 5 Pillars of Personal Transformation, we can better prepare ourselves for any emergencies, negative thoughts, or feelings of anxiety that may come our way.

The 5 Pillars of Personal Transformation

  • Plan and Prepare for any obstacles or emergencies that come into your life.
  • Professional Accountability: Look to someone to hold you accountable for your actions and bring out the best in you.
  • Positive Social Support: Who are your cheerleaders? These are the people that are always there for you and will help push you to do better.
  • Meaningful Incentive: Have a big enough reason for why you’re doing what you’re doing i.e. for your children or your health.
  • The Big Deadline: Set a deadline for the big and small goals during the day.

"A goal without a deadline is just a dream." - Craig Ballantyne

The Third C: Concentrate on what really matters by creating a vision for yourself

In order to truly focus on your dreams, you need to create a vision for your life. This will help you understand where you want to go, how you want to get there, and help you make the right decisions overall. For the majority of us, that means creating structure in your life, but a lot of us don’t like structure. So what can we do?

If you know exactly where you want to go, you can get there without any distractions when you follow your own rules.

Instead of seeing structure as something that is holding you back from having the freedom to make your own decisions, structure can be extremely liberating. How you may ask? Well, isn’t following your own rules a lot easier and less stressful than following someone else’s orders?

Why Your Perfect Day Starts With The Goodnight Formula

The 3 C’s begin with taking control of your mornings, but the real magic begins that night before with Craig’s 10-3-2-1-0 Goodnight Formula.

Your Perfect Day already begins 10 hours before you go to bed when you should be refraining from drinking any type of caffeine. Some people may be able to drink coffee or other caffeinated beverages  at night, but for the majority of us, it can really affect our sleep cycle.

As the day continues on, at 3 hours beforehand, you should not eat any heavy meals or drink alcohol. If you go to bed with alcohol in your system, you will most likely wake up feeling even more tired than you did the night before.

To help you begin to relax more and not be stressed before you sleep, you should stop doing any type of work activity 2 hours before bed. At 1 hour left to go, it’s time to put away the electronics, turn off the TV, and avoiding looking at your phone’s screen.

Whether or not you had a great night’s rest, zero is the number of times that you should hit the snooze button in the morning. If you allow yourself to fall back into a sleep cycle, it will be even more difficult for you to get up and enjoy your 15 free minutes to take control of your perfect day.

How To Know If It’s Time For You To Change Your Environment & Relationships

Whether they realize it or not, our friends, family members, and coworkers can sabotage our formula for a perfect day.

When we’re trying to create the perfect day for ourselves by following the 3 C’s, the Five Pillars, and the Goodnight Formula, we can face different challenges. To get through them, we need to have the best support system that we can possible have from the people in our lives.

These are that people that are there for you no matter what with their love, support, and kindness.  Unfortunately, they can also sabotage us sometimes.

To move forward and grow, we may have to change our environments. It may not be forever, but if you have a goal in mind, you may have to change your schedule and your activities to reach your goal. You don’t have to leave people behind, but this may also mean that you have to change the environment you’re in if you truly want to see yourself improve each day.

If you’re in a toxic relationship that does not allow you to grow in anyway at all, you might have to give the gift of goodbye. That way, you can create space to allow new people into your life who will support your goals and hold you accountable for them.

What Not To Do During Your Perfect Day

When we face anxiety, we may follow negative habits that are holding us back from having a perfect day. Craig gave us so much great advice on what we should be doing to beat anxiety and create a perfect day, but he also has a Do Not Do List of what we should not be doing:

  • Do not hit the snooze button.
  • Do not check your email first thing in the morning.
  • Do not answer all phone calls.
  • Do not mindlessly surf the Internet.
  • Do not waste time arguing or gossiping.
  • Do not consume food or drink that makes you tired.

These are some good tips to help you create a perfect day, but what about your own unique list?

How can you be less distracted and more productive during the day?

Take some time to write down what you’re doing each day and discover when you’re distracted and when you’re productive during the day. That way, you can create your own Do Not Do List and focus on the most important tasks you need to complete during your productive time.

Jun 28, 2016

On this week’s podcast, New York Times Best-selling author and striving Yogi, Karan Bajaj, shares how sabbaticals, vipassana meditation, and living in his dharma has helped him create more power, clarity, and purpose in his life and for millions of readers.

The Purpose Driven Life

The sad reality is that only one out of every three Americans are now reported to be very happy. It's no surprise that on the wrong road, we can find ourselves feeling disconnected from our passion, discontent with where we are, and craving a shift towards a more purpose driven life.

In our journey, we may do many things to find purpose again including changing jobs or in finding temporary satisfactions through "weapons of mass distractions," like alcohol, food, and even the wrong relationships.

To find a purpose driven life however, Karan plants the seed of thought that what we may need to do is simply create the time to focus on what we truly desire through yoga, meditation, and sabbaticals.

To be able to feel more content with yourself and where you are in life, Karan guides us to the focus of stripping away your emotional materialism.

How to Strip Yourself of Emotional Materialism

Emotional materialism is defined by Karan as “constantly wanting to become something or someone better.

A person who focuses on emotional materialism is someone who is incessantly looking for growth within jobs, social circles, and experiences in order to become “someone better,” all without ever feeling good about where they are. They believe that once they have become that "better person" or achieved something bigger, only then will they be truly happy.

This however is the exact opposite of how to become content with who we truly are.

After we strip ourselves of emotional materialism, we become more selfless. After we become more selfless, we can see ourselves as the best medium for carrying out our work; the magic of contentment is that it doesn’t even matter if that work fails.

To a Yogi, the most important thing is that they are a vessel that carries out their work.

But how do we begin this process of changing our mindset and not focus on becoming something else, but on who we are right now? How can we truly strip ourselves of emotional materialism and become selfless?

Karan suggests three powerful steps: Learn, Reflect, and Meditate.

To be content, you must do all three consistently over time.

In order to allow ourselves to simply just “be,” we get to learn through secondary resources such as books and people, reflect on those learnings, and finally experience what we have learned through meditation.

Finding Contentment in Your Life

It is obvious that if you are consumed with negative thoughts about where you are, then you won't be able to lead a life of happiness.

Many people believe that true contentment is found in reaching the "moment" from when they get from Point A to Point B. Ironically, their current purpose might just be where they currently are right now; between Point A and Point B.

"Instead of focusing on how to get from Point A to Point B, you must pause for a moment to give yourself the space to help you feel content with yourself, which will lead you to find your purpose." - Karan Bajaj

If you rush yourself and forget to learn, reflect, and meditate, you won’t be able to take the powerful moment to pause for thoughts such as, “I am what I am. I’m where I’m currently at in life, and I’m going to be the best me that I can be.”

Karan teaches to not rush life, and rather take it one day at a time to see where it can lead you.

How To Prepare For A Sabbatical or Meditation Retreat

In the process of Karan living out his dharma, he realized that he didn’t need to spend time following radical goals, but rather to enjoy "being" and discovering his true path through meditation.

To help do this, Karan has taken two, one year long sabbaticals.

He calls this the 4-1-4 rule.  Work for 4 years diligently, take one year off, then return for 4 more years. However, not everyone can take an entire year away from their work, family, and life to spend on reflecting and meditating.

Some people follow a 7 -1-7 rule by working 7 weeks and then taking a week off. Karan also suggests taking short, meaningful vacations by spending time in new environment or doing a 10-day meditation retreat.

By letting everything familiar go on a sabbatical, you get to dissolve your habits and cyclical thinking so that you can start anew again on your return. The only true prerequisite for a meditation retreat is that you welcome it with an open mind and have an acceptance for you and those around you.

You may be thinking that doing a sabbatical or meditation retreat such as Vipassana can be a scary experience. You may even question whether or not it will be easy for you to let go of society's conditioning and commit yourself to focusing on meditation for so many days.

These worries are very common for people who are new to meditation retreats, but embracing this fear and going through the threshold can be a life-changing experience.
